Most boring family Christmas conversation competition

So far this Christmas break we have had how the woman across the road keeps her bins to the SIDE of her path at the driveway and a long extended discussion about the pros and cons of bin positioning. Apparently "we just don't know what she gets up to" is a comment that was appropriate in that conversation. I'm not sure what my neighbours think about my bin position?!!

High drama of the day has been when an unknown car parked perfectly legally near the house. This prompted lots of walking back and forwards at windows and some fake retrieval of stuff from our cars to nosey. Can anyone compete with that level of drama? A friend suggested we log it with 101.

(And as it seems necessary to say this these days this is lighthearted. I love my family but in large doses they are exhausting and this is just some light relief to keep me smiling politely.)

Last year we got the lecture on why do people spend so much money on things like expensive wrapping paper, gift bags and tags and the like...

My lovely family member always likes to talk about his lunches out while walking which are always “soup and a roll”. It’s got to the stage now where DH catch each other’s eye and secretly laugh. It’s so boring and a really odd topic of conversation, but one we seem to have often. There are lots of variables- the flavour, the type of soup and the setting, the price.

“Soup and a roll” has now entered common parlance in our house as code for you’re boring me Grin

This blows my mind!
Conversations I've had over Christmas:

The state of primary education
Why the Labour Party failed so spectacularly in the election
Why my pony bucks
Ferocious argument about veganism
Grindr/Tinder
Watching Oliver! triggered an unpleasant disagreement about domestic violence and coercive control
Long argument about whether we need a microwave
Bookbinding
How to lay out a body

A conversation about bins would have been a bit of light relief tbh

@alltoomuchrightnow believe me, there's a million more stories they've been telling us since we got back, you wouldn't think we only saw them two weeks prior to this. How have they got this much gossip already? Phillip actually stopped by to drop my birthday present in today and meet the triplets because he hasn't met them yet, and he brought Bubbles with him! Bubbles is actually this tiny little chihuahua and is scary as anything, and Phillip told us about the divorce. It turns out that they were having a bubble bath because Bubbles loves bubbles. Confused

@longwayoff I think I actually might! It would definitely be entertaining and there's always something new with them, and all of my siblings are moving home as well so there will definitely be tons of gossip!

@birdsarecute45 my family is quite funny, I'll give you that Grin! And B, I actually work for a script company but I handle all of the office work like the finances and stuff, maybe I'll put some ideas forward when I get back after christmas! And I really hope they remember it, I'm sure my parents will remind them every year anyway hahah!

We had an in depth conversation about the many and varied cats on my mum's street, although to be fair I instigated that one.

doleritedinosaur · 30/12/2019 18:51

@mummycubs please keep us updated from the carrot farm. Absolutely howling over Bubbles & his bubbles.

mummycubs · 31/12/2019 00:24

If anyone is interested, I've created a thread and I'll make a new one every month with little conversations my family have like Phillip's carrots and his bubble bath with Bubbles Grin.

My in laws had a corner shop a few min walk from their house that they used regularly.
A couple of years ago a tesco metro opened about 4 doors along.
MIL: it's awful, how will the corner shop manage?
Well i certainly wont use it, I'll still be using the corner shop.
Now MIL: (FIL) could you pop up to Tesco and get some milk?
(Miraculously the corner shop is still there no thanks to them)
