Unwanted smellies

My mum bought me a dive gift set. I hate the smell and it dries out my skin (which I have told her before 🙄). She likes to buy a lot of tat to bulk out gifts.

As I won’t use this would the food bank be able to use it, I am happy to hand it over?

Women's aid , foodbank, charity shop , local homeless shelter ?

selmabear · 26/12/2019 15:21

Not a fan on dove gift sets either, or any smellies gift sets for that. DP's family always buys smellies for me. I donate them. They're getting used, just not by me.

Mrsjayy · 26/12/2019 15:21

Women's aid will take it maybe wait a few weeks to donate the it.

Bluebutterfly90 · 26/12/2019 15:22

They'll probably take it and if they wont they'll know who will. Womens aid is also an option.
Much better to give it to someone in need than for it to rot in the back of your cupboards so hand it over guilt free. Grin

I got some really expensive temple Spa gift sets
I usually love it but I have so much ice never get through it all

PristineCondition · 26/12/2019 15:26

the endless School tombolas get all mine.
Do as a massive family and everyone seems to give each other a token gift of a smelly set. I end up with about 15 to 20 are I can't use

Mrsjayy · 26/12/2019 15:27

My mumust have found. Dove3for 2 somewhere we all got some I don't mind it my Dds were horrified I'll end up using.

sleepismysuperpower1 · 26/12/2019 15:37

look and see if you have a hygiene bank drop off location (usually inside of shops) near you. if not, give to food bank or womens aid

Ilikewinter · 26/12/2019 15:40

I also got a Dove set from MIL, told her before im allergic to it...oh well ive put it in the cupboard with the Lynx one SIL got me....actually its with the same Lynx set MIL got me last year!!!

Mrsjayy · 26/12/2019 15:44

Oh god who thinks lynx gift sets are for grown women, my Sister said her neighbour gave her one my sister tried to Palm it off on Dd2 Xmas Hmm

Sn0tnose · 26/12/2019 15:46

Give it to The Hygiene Bank. They’ve got collection points all over the place and work with loads of organisations that have referral processes, so you know it’s going to people who really need it.

Drizzzle · 26/12/2019 15:48

Before reading threads on MN I didn't know toiletries gift sets were so unpopular! Just pass it on if you don't like it. I don't think it's kind to call soap/shampoo/bubble bath "tat".

Canklesforankles · 26/12/2019 15:55

Do you have a local hospital or know someone who works there? Many wards like to have sets for people that come in with no toiletries.

SoleBizzz · 26/12/2019 16:07

We take toiletries at our Foidbank.

SoleBizzz · 26/12/2019 16:08

Our Foodbank clients are so happy when I give them smellies and make up.

Likethebattle · 26/12/2019 16:10

@Drizzzle but they are just tat designed to bulk out the presents. I’d rather have less and not have stuff I have to chuck out or donate somewhere as I can’t use it. I have told her this!

Hospitals like gift sets to be donated for their longer term patients and teen patients.

Laiste · 26/12/2019 16:55

I never knew about hospitals and food banks accepting toiletries. I will remember that if any (fecking) bayliss & harding rears it's head this year (we still have present giving/receiving events over the next couple of days).

Laiste · 26/12/2019 16:56

For the record i always smile heartily and say thank you.

Laiste · 26/12/2019 16:58

.... Maybe i should stop smiling and saying thank you. And instead chuck any B & fecking H across the room screaming nooooooooooooooo

MoaningMinniee · 26/12/2019 16:58

I haven't had a single one so far this year!! Still two family gift exchange meet ups to go though.

mencken · 26/12/2019 18:01

charity shop or women's aid. Hopefully the soap at least will be usable, most other stuff in these gift sets just reeks.

If anyone really cared about the planet these wasteful overpackaged items would have long gone.

Likethebattle · 26/12/2019 18:01

I was gracious with ‘oh...thanks that’s nice’ as she still got me a gift at the e d of the day.
