What Time Did You Eat Xmas Lunch?

I was criticised (subtly) by an elderly relative for serving Christmas lunch so late yesterday.

By the time the teenagers got up, we opened presents, ate breakfast, had visitors in the morning and then cooked lunch, we didn't eat until 3pm.

Is that ridiculously late?

I aimed to have dinner ready for 5pm but it was on the table at 5.30, so not too bad. I do not want to get up early to get the turkey in.

We ate at 2pm, had starters and mains, then a break for Her Maj, followed by Christmas pudding. No one wanted cheese despite me offering it on a regular basis. Guests left around 6pm so we just had cheese etc around 8pm.

Starter (a defrosted prawn ring! Retro!) just before 2, got chatting a bit so main wasn't until about half past. Then pudding once we'd finished.

Too full for much else, but managed a glass of port and a chunk of cheese at 10pm!!

Starter about 2, main just after 3 and afters 5. Did presents and games in-between.

In laws arrived at 11.45. I think we served starter at 12.30 and main course at maybe 2pm and dessert at 3.15 give or take. It worked well spreading it out. My fil can't eat too late a big meal so we always eat at lunch time. We did that in my house as a kid too so it doesn't bother me.

I don't think 3pm is late though- now the post about a dad wanting to serve the meal at 7 is late!
