What Time Did You Eat Xmas Lunch?

I was criticised (subtly) by an elderly relative for serving Christmas lunch so late yesterday.

By the time the teenagers got up, we opened presents, ate breakfast, had visitors in the morning and then cooked lunch, we didn't eat until 3pm.

Is that ridiculously late?

3pm - that was the time I'd booked my table at a restaurant so bang on time 😂 Phoned my youngest DS at 10pm, he and his partner had just sat down to eat theirs...🤷‍♀️

7.00pm as always but, in fairness, DH worked in hotels for the first 30 years we were together so he was always working during the day.

zenasfuck · 26/12/2019 13:37

4pm. I rarely eat before then on a normal day anyway so wasn't hungry and I like to open gifts, see the visitors, have a coffee and read for a while before rushing around cooking dinner

3pm for us too , for us it's not too much of a rush as all up by 9am then we have breakfast so ready by 3 .

VerbenaGirl · 26/12/2019 13:55

4pm - totally normal.

joystir59 · 26/12/2019 13:57

12.45pm to suit oh who is recovering from major surgery and elderly mil

BarbedBloom · 26/12/2019 13:59

2.30pm. We normally have it in the evening but changed it as we had a young child coming. I refuse to serve at 12 as it means I am rushing around in the morning, whereas with it being later we have a lie in and then leisurely open presents before getting ready.

itgetshardereveryday · 26/12/2019 14:01

Guests arrived around 2pm, we opened presents then watched Queens speech at 3pm, had a drink and chat then started eating at 4pm, finished around 5.30pm.

Sweetooth92 · 26/12/2019 14:03

4pm for us. We like to have plenty of time in the morning to leisurely open presents and take the dogs out together. Meant I didn’t have to start thinking about stuff going to the oven until DS went up for a nap.

YouretheChristmasCarcass · 26/12/2019 14:03

We ate around 2pm. Afterwards we open family gifts, then have coffee and pie. Then complain that we ate too much.

BarbedBloom · 26/12/2019 14:05

We had venison too, was lovely

YolandiFuckinVisser · 26/12/2019 14:08

7pm. DCs are teens so no waking up before dawn, nice morning opening presents, quick visit to friends for a drink and more presents, breakfast at 12ish, dog walk after breakfast, started cooking after that. It was ready at 7 so that's when we ate.

BakewellTarts · 26/12/2019 14:09

Aimed for 2 served at 2.30. Always have a 12 o'clock nibbles so everyone was fine.

IndieTara · 26/12/2019 14:43

5.30pm was great

londonscalling · 26/12/2019 18:41

Thanks. Well despite my critics it seems 3pm isn't that late then! I offered them something to eat prior to lunch in case they were hungry, but they refused. Sometimes you just can't win!!!

2pm. Then we had a break to play some games and had dessert at about 4:30.

MinkowskisButterfly · 26/12/2019 19:07

Planned for two but ended up at 4. Would have preferred a bit earlier but hey ho and all that. Maybe she wanted to watch the queens speech - that's at 3 isn't it?

Majorcollywobble · 26/12/2019 19:09

Subtle criticism or not don’t invite aforementioned relative again .

LilyPinkNoah · 26/12/2019 19:11

Ours was Xmas dinner so it was around 630pm

Juliette20 · 26/12/2019 19:13

Aimed for 2pm, but was a bit earlier in the end, about 1.45pm.

GinNsnowmen · 26/12/2019 19:15

1.30

Cyclewidow46 · 26/12/2019 19:19

Turkey at 3.30 here. Pudding at 5 and cheese and biscuits whilst watching Gavin and Stacey.

ThunderboltandLightning · 26/12/2019 19:24

By the time we are up and had breakfast after opening stockings and doing Parkrun, it is gone 10am. We eat lunch around 3pm and then if anyone is hungry later, they help themselves to leftovers.

Oldraver · 26/12/2019 19:36

5PM which is early for us, partly as DS was on call from 5pm and wanted to serve dinner in case he had to go out

We usually dont have dinner till after 6
