If I have three Alexa's set up...

All named different things; how do I send an announcement from one, to just ONE of the others? Rather than it announcing to both, if I don't need/want it to?

I've asked it to announce on "L's dot" but it doesn't seem to understand that Confused

Announce is to all.

You can ask Alexa to drop in on L's dot and you can have a conversation that way.

kinsss · 25/12/2019 20:51

Get a real life maybe, and flick a switch or something!

Sorry but Alexa is banned here. Too gross and intrusive to me. But each to their own and all that.

iklboodolphrednosedreindeer · 25/12/2019 20:53

Use 'drop in on' instead of announce. Works much better.

Lulualla · 25/12/2019 20:58

@kinsss

The OP didn't ask for opinions on alexa. She asked for technical help. Why did you even click on this thread if you're not interested in using it or helping someone use it?

Keep your judgy opinions to yourself unless someone actually asks "what do you all think if alexa"

Itsigginingtolookalotlikexmas · 25/12/2019 21:00

You can drop in - I never knew this! We just broadcast at each other Blush So is drop in two way then?

CatFaceCats · 25/12/2019 21:11

@kinsss Hmm

There’s always one isn’t there.

notapizzaeater · 25/12/2019 21:21

Ooh, we're setting up DS one tomorrow .... I think he will freak out !

MrsT1405 · 25/12/2019 21:35

That's good to know. I love Alexa and we have 3 with about 4 smart plugs. The telly, lights, radiators etc. are all voice controlled.

xTinkerhellx · 25/12/2019 21:39

Drop in is like a phone call through the dots.

If you've named your dots in the app you just ask Alexa to drop in on the one you want. When you want to end the call, just say Alexa stop.

If the Echo devices are a giant government spying conspiracy, then my 7 year old asking Alexa to fart or having meowing conversations with it are the best of the Intel they will recieve in this house.

lucysmam · 25/12/2019 21:41

Aaah, thank you!

@kinsss it's been said already but I really don't care whether you, or anyone else, likes them. We're having fun with them & it's saving me shouting upstairs since one's playing guitar and the other playing on the x-box up there Xmas Smile

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 25/12/2019 21:54

Oh @kinsss have some wine for fucks sake.

I bought DS an Alexa and he’s been playing football quiz for hours! Enjoy!

lucysmam · 25/12/2019 22:00

@xTinkerhellx my almost 10yo was in hysterics at Alexa farting and hiccuping earlier on today Xmas Grin How do you get it to meow? She'll probably like that too!

I might even connect the telly to it! Not that I can work the tv in the first place Xmas Hmm

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 25/12/2019 22:07

We have acquired 3 today and I’m already loving them. We live in a three storey house and I think sometimes I shout myself hoarse...today I’ve just been “dropping in” on them and telling them what I need them to do.

7 year old has been using his to learn about turtles Grin

xTinkerhellx · 25/12/2019 22:08

@lucysmam Just meow at her!

Say Alexa Meow! And then Alexa meows back and waits for you to then meow back... And on and on and fucking on.

She finds it hilarious.

VanyaHargreeves · 25/12/2019 22:10

Festive of kinnsss there Hmm

I get really angry with mine regularly Blush

TakeMeToKernow · 25/12/2019 22:14

I’m so delighted you mentioned this! Setting up 3 for my SDCs tomorrow Xmas Grin

PorpentinaScamander · 25/12/2019 22:15

I went from "I'm not having one of those" to having 4 of them!

Usellful to know I can "drop in" though. Not sure why the teens didnt tell me. One of ours is currently at my mums house, but logged into our account, so she hears all my announcements Grin

I tell Alexa she'll go up for adoption when she isnt doing what shes told. My niece spends all day telling her she loves her so she sings back.
And if you say "boo" then she gets scared. Apparently we 'scared the living data lights out of her' Grin

If the gov/amazon are spying they'll conclude that I'm a bit weird

aurynne · 25/12/2019 22:15

I gave 2 Dots to my DH forXmas and this thread has already answered one of my questions. We plan to have one in his office and the other in the lounge. Can you do something like "Alexa, tell Dot 2 that he stinks" if you want tosay something to a person in the other room without it being a conversation?

TakeMeToKernow · 25/12/2019 22:15

I will be meeeeeowing! Will try to get the very vocal cats involved Xmas Wink

lucysmam · 25/12/2019 22:27

@aurynne "Alexa, announce, whatever it is you want to say" will do that for you Xmas Smile

Dd2 is now meowing at hers & dd1 is scaring hers with "boo!"

Do any of you know if you can connect it to tesco? I can find Morrisons & have a shopping list on it already but can't find Tesco.

OP posts:
HunnyMummy1993 · 25/12/2019 22:33

I like using my phone to drop in. You don’t need to be in a room with an Alexa.

The other handy thing to set up, if you regularly have to communicate with inert teens in their room who are likely to have headphones on is set up a routine.

So if I say ‘Alexa. Alert Josh’

Alexa flashes the light on and off in his room several times and says ‘mum‘s calling‘

lucysmam · 25/12/2019 22:39

@HunnyMummy1993 I'll have a look for those in the morning. It's certainly making life quieter; no shouting up the stairs several bazillion times to be told "I can't hear you" by nearly 13yo dd1 has been great!

OP posts:
Itsigginingtolookalotlikexmas · 25/12/2019 22:59

ShockShock
I will be spending tomorrow working out how to do that

lucysmam · 25/12/2019 23:08

I can't work out how to drop in on my phone Xmas Confused. I'll try again in the morning; it might just be tiredness.
