Oh...I bought DP a gift set for Xmas :/

CormoranStrike · 25/12/2019 13:41

How lovely @AnythingConsidered she has picked the perfect gift for you

Lindy2 · 25/12/2019 13:42

I've been given a couple of sets.

They're nice. I'm quite happy to use them. The people who have bought them for me have done so with kindness in their hearts.

I really can't be bothered with having a hierarchy of acceptable bubble baths. They smell nice, they make the bath bubbly. All is good.

Honeybee85 · 25/12/2019 13:43

I am afraid to say it but some of their handwash is lovely as is the handcream. Though I do like Jo Malone handcream more Grin

NumbersStation · 25/12/2019 13:49

@AnythingConsidered and @Spied

This is what Christmas is all about for me. Xmas Smile

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 25/12/2019 14:43

Fuckinghell! After something like 100 yrs my BIL hasn’t bought me any.

But he has bought me leggings. Running leggings. WTF? Im a runner, have been for 10 yrs and over the years i have a nice collection of what i like/need. And he's bough me something from Sainsburys. And a running belt. I have a bag i use. Its multifunctional. Holds water if i need. And i paid a lot for it hence its the only one i use.

Jeeeeeus.

milliefiori · 25/12/2019 14:47

I really like it. Wouldn't give it as a present but I buy it. Smells just as nice as some of Molton Brown's stuff. They did a blind test on a TV documentary and people couldn't tell the difference. (Didn't say it was MB and B&H but the bottles were exactly the same shapes.)

TeaLibrary · 25/12/2019 14:51

Yes. Opened a baylis and Harding gift this morning. It will be going straight back to the shop to exchange for something halfway decent

ChocChipWookie · 25/12/2019 14:52

I think they must have twigged this year that it's not going down as well, lots of it is rebranded 'The Fuzzy Duck' with 'By Bayliss & Harding' at the bottom.

Whilst it might smell as nice as Molton Brown the scent doesn't last like Molton Brown.

haverhill · 25/12/2019 14:52

It’s not horrid, it’s just ordinary. I like some of the scents. I really dislike it when adults snipe about gifts. Grow up.

I haven’t had any but it wouldn’t bother me. I would just stick it in the bathroom and use it.

Mookie81 · 25/12/2019 15:32

It's one of the many things that MN has decided is shit, so lots of sheep have also decided it's shit Xmas Hmm.
It's perfectly adequate as handwash or a token gift for someone you dont know.

RubbishRubbishRubbish · 25/12/2019 15:36

I don't believe anybody actually uses half the stuff in these sets.. Perhaps the shower gel but I'm guessing there is a metric fuck ton of body lotion/body butter/bath salts/scrubby thingies going to landfill every January. It's not about the price BTW, as others have said there are cheaper nicer brands that people would be thrilled to recieve.. Eg: The Aldi stuff is genuinely nice.. It's just a really unlikeable brand imo.

To be fair, Baylis and Harding is the epitome of toiletry sets. Very, very ordinary stuff packaged in plastic to make it look special, festive and giftworthy.

I feel exactly the same about Dove, Nivea, Adidas, Lynx and all the other toiletry sets found on the shelves of supermarkets. Total waste of money and not something anyone really wants.

RingtheBells · 25/12/2019 16:24

I buy it like I buy Carex, it’s not a present type thing surely.

HerRoyalFattyness · 25/12/2019 16:42

DPs mum always gets me some. I got fluffy socks this year too.
I'm happy with that.

Flymetothetoon · 25/12/2019 17:06

Not this year but I still have. B&H gift set that also included a bath robe which DH bought me 3 years ago still in wardrobe untouched.

bessie84 · 25/12/2019 17:44

got my annual set, despite saying how rancid it is - opened - re-wrapped and gave to MIL who bloody loves the stuff! so never goes to waste.

greenlavender · 25/12/2019 18:45

Sorry I really cannot bear it.

ThunderboltandLightning · 25/12/2019 18:47

MIL buys it for me because, to her, it is posh. For her, day to day is Lidl own brand, B&H is luxury. I doubt she has even heard of Molton Brown, and I can't imagine ever being so sniffy as to reject it. Your hands still end up clean after using it.

CormoranStrike · 25/12/2019 18:50

Well said @Thunderbolt

myusernamewastakenbyme · 25/12/2019 18:56

I dont buy expensive toiletries so its not a snobbery thing but if someone was going to get me a gift set id rather have Dove....Bayliss & Harding is like the cheap crap you got on market stalls years ago.

SunsetBeetch · 25/12/2019 19:53

Yes. Opened a baylis and Harding gift this morning. It will be going straight back to the shop to exchange for something halfway decent

Did you get the receipt too?

sproutsgalore · 25/12/2019 19:56

I tried Molton Brown testers in John Lewis once and couldn't find one I liked the smell of.

B&H on the other hand, I do like. Also the Sanctuary spa range that comes in for a lot of stick sometimes.
