Anyone else get some? Horrid stuff.

I don't hate it but I do prefer to use cruelty free toiletries and b&h isn't so I do pass it on unopened.

BloodyCats · 25/12/2019 20:00

Hate it, along with the 100 polyester pyjamas MIL buys me. I’m not against smellies and pyjamas but I hate cheap materials. How are you meant to politely ask for cotton pyjamas and decent body wash?

mnahmnah · 25/12/2019 20:02

I like their hand wash for the bathroom. But that’s it. Unfortunately my MIL has decided I obviously only like Baylis and Harding stuff out of everything she could possibly buy me. I get a bigger gift set of it each year. And socks.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 25/12/2019 20:02

What’s wrong with it? Is it because it’s cheap and you’d prefer Molton Brown? Because you know, whoever makes it, it’s all just basically sodium laureth sulfate with some added fragrance. Most of what you pay for is with expensive brands is marketing. How bloody ungrateful.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 25/12/2019 20:08

@prampushingdownthehighst

What do they do that means they’re not cruelty-free? From their website:

*We are committed to protecting the welfare of all animals and proudly support the work of PETA.
In addition to this our policies ensure that:

No animal testing is performed on either our products or any chemical used in our products or packaging.
No real fur/ bone / horn /shell/ teeth / tusk/ feather is used in our products
No animal derived ingredients included in any of our fragrances – whales/musk etc.
No animal derived glue used in our product packaging
We do not use any images on our products which promote animal cruelty*

They’re also ‘featured partners’ with PETA:

LoveNote · 25/12/2019 20:23

There’s nothing wrong with Baylis and Harding..... I’m interested you know what is an acceptable alternative?

Pinkyyy · 25/12/2019 20:36

But he has bought me leggings. Running leggings. WTF? Im a runner, have been for 10 yrs and over the years i have a nice collection of what i like/need. And he's bough me something from Sainsburys. And a running belt. I have a bag i use

Some people are so ungrateful it's untrue. Someone bought you a thoughtful gift that they thought was perfect for you and you've turned your nose up at it.

LoveNote · 25/12/2019 21:40

This thread is so depressing!!

Deemail · 25/12/2019 22:47

I don't consider this snobbery or depressing. Aside from the hand soap I consider the offerings of this brand to be awful stuff. I'd much prefer Dove or Nivea as their shower gels and hand creams are quiet nice. They're not marketed as a luxury product dupe, you know what you're getting.
The amount of shite almost forced on us by multinationals at this time of year is ridiculous.

Makegoodchoices · 25/12/2019 22:52

This is my first year of no horrible smellies and I’m thrilled. The school might not be, I usually donate at least three sets for tombola prizes.

Duck90 · 26/12/2019 00:10

Cannot stand the stuff. I have received it in the past, so used it. The products are horrible, there are much nicer own brand shower gels out there. It is all packaging, no substance,

Running through Tesco and buying this rubbish is a waste of money. Just give me the £5.

ghostmouse · 26/12/2019 08:58

'But he has bought me leggings. Running leggings. WTF? Im a runner, have been for 10 yrs and over the years i have a nice collection of what i like/need. And he's bough me something from Sainsburys. And a running belt. I have a bag i use'

Indeed wtf. If I was your dp/dh I wouldn't bother buying you anything else ever.

I have loads of glasses cases and this year my dd17 bought me another 1. I didn't need it but it's beautiful and I'll treasure it for sure and I'll use it and stick the others in a drawer.

What a depressing thread

isabellerossignol · 26/12/2019 09:01

Poor BIL. Obviously knew that the Bayliss and Harding stuff wasn't liked, so tried to be more thoughtful and choose a gift appropriate to something he knew you enjoyed. And you're annoyed at him for that as well.

Pinkyyy · 26/12/2019 09:13

MN this Christmas has made me realise just how vicious and ungrateful people can be. Some people don't even deserve a baylis and Harding set.

xmassquared · 26/12/2019 12:19

I didn't realise it was considered a crap brand, but I don't usually buy toiletries sets as gifts.
I got given a Baylis and Harding slippers and foot cream and salt crystals set this Christmas. It's not really my thing but I shall use the cream and the slippers have already been snaffled by another family member.
I don't think there's anything wrong with donating/exchanging unwanted gifts if you know you're not going to use it. Better that than gathering dust somewhere in the house. However, I would still thank the person who gifted it.

My siblings a and I have decided just to do gifts for child relatives this year. This is a win win situation for everyone as we save money spent on potentially unappreciated gifts, and don't receive further stuff we neither need or want ourselves.

rosie39forever · 26/12/2019 12:30

I got the foot set and slippers from mil, was a lovely thought but not something I will use so the local children's hospice shop will benefit.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/12/2019 12:33

I don't mind it. My friend buys me Molton Brown. And there is little difference.

justgivememulledwine · 26/12/2019 12:53

Our school Christmas/May/ etc fairs always have tonnes of B&H stuff donated for the tombola/raffle ticket stalls. Dc inevitably end up winning some and giving it to me, some of it has been quite nice like the body lotion I use at the moment, some of it not so much 😒

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 26/12/2019 12:56

Shove Molton Brown on the label and Mumsnetters would be all over the stuff, it probably comes off the same production lineHmm

ghostmouse · 26/12/2019 13:19

Sorry not dp but I meant bil. Oops

Sn0tnose · 26/12/2019 13:23

If anyone is intending to bin their unwanted smelliest, would you consider passing them onto The Hygiene Bank instead (I don’t know much about them but they popped up on a local FB page asking for donations and they seem a fantastic cause). Their website is www.thehygienebank.com and they’ve got drop off locations all over the place. They support loads of different organisations and I think many people would be very grateful for anything you’re not keen on.

Sn0tnose · 26/12/2019 13:24

smellies not smelliest!

Deathraystare · 26/12/2019 14:02

I hate it. It is everywhere. But then I also hate Ferrero Rocher. I was given some but gave them to my brother who also hates them but his MIL likes them!

milliefiori · 26/12/2019 15:01

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor - I agree. Same stuff, different marketing strategy.

lowlandLucky · 26/12/2019 15:17

Have a look on baycrazys unwanted gift section, its full of B&H gift sets.
