Thread for people alone today

sashh · 25/12/2019 08:27

I couldn't see another thread. I know a couple of people earlier in the week who were not looking forward to today because they are on their own.

So this is the thread to just have a chat.

I don't do Xmas so I'm just having coffee and serving virtual coffee to other MNers.

Lovely idea sashh

LucaFritz · 25/12/2019 08:37

Im doing myself a Christmas dinner and enjoying the Christmas films but other than that its just another day. Not as lonley as i thought it might be BrewCake

HelloIsitXmasTreeYoureLookingF · 25/12/2019 08:38

I will be but I'm delighted, I had to cancel meeting people which is such a shame but I'm not well and exhausted so want to rest.

But virtual hugs to anyone not looking forward to it

SingingLily · 25/12/2019 08:39

Morning, Ssash, I'm not strictly speaking on my own but I am ignoring Christmas (difficult birth family, long story) and will happily share a virtual coffee with you - thank you.

The house is clean and quiet, just how I like it, and today I'm going to listen to music, read a lot, and perhaps watch a favourite film. What are you doing today?

IsItTooEarlyForABaileys · 25/12/2019 08:44

Hi all, first time in my adult life that I’m on my own (I’m 48) .
Had a cry in the shower & currently sat in my room admiring a beautiful cashmere scarf one of my customers gave to me (I’m a cleaner) & thinking it’s too gorgeous to use for myself but then thinking fuck it I’ve worked so hard & should wear it .
Also thinking is it too early for a Baileys ?
💐 for everyone

SingingLily · 25/12/2019 08:46

Also thinking is it too early for a Baileys ?

😂Never! What colour is the scarf?

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 25/12/2019 08:48

I insist you wrap the scarf about you and drink Bailey's right now.. 👍

I'm not alone alone today, my daughter is here for the morning, but she will be off later and then it'll be just me.
Telly and sweet things for me this afternoon.

IsItTooEarlyForABaileys · 25/12/2019 08:51

It’s a beautiful shade of blue - just my colour ! I could never afford to buy myself anything like it so I’m feeling very lucky.
I’ve poured myself a glass of fizz that I’ve been keeping for today 🥂 & going to start reading a book - something I haven’t done in a long time

HelloIsitXmasTreeYoureLookingF · 25/12/2019 08:51

I like @SingingLily's aplomb :)

Swinesinsleepingbags · 25/12/2019 08:51

It's nearly 10pm in New Zealand (I used to live there, growing up I found it weird that as we were finishing Christmas the UK were just starting, now it's the other way round. My NZ cousins are already in bed, Christmas is over)
Sorry for that waffle, basically I was saying it's 5 o`clock somewhere so crack on with the bailey's. If you aren't sure add it to your coffee.

Dazedandconfused10 · 25/12/2019 08:53

I'm on my own! Hub split up with me properly last night. So merry fucking Christmas everyone.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 25/12/2019 08:54

Keep the scarf. It was a gift to you from someone who though of you when picking it out.

I have zero gifts this year. Not even a card. I'll be getting myself a present in the sales, sod it. Lol

KnitFastDieWarm · 25/12/2019 08:54

Please put the scarf on and down as much baileys as you wish - you have no idea how much better and easier and happier you make people’s lives by helping them keep on top of their house. Coming home to an sparkling house courtesy of my awesome cleaner has sometimes been the only thing that makes me smile all week during hard times. Thank you Flowers

ouch321 · 25/12/2019 08:55

Sounds a nice scarf. Why not post a pic?

8Track · 25/12/2019 08:59

I agree with Knit - enjoy the lovely scarf.

Gorgeous sunshine streaming through the window here, a lovely warm yellow light - ideal to curl up in like a cat (except with an added glass of something delicious and an interesting read!). Best wishes to you all today.

Dazed Really sorry to hear you're unexpectedly on your own. Please do be gentle to yourself.

Funko · 25/12/2019 08:59

For everyone alone or feeling alone... Sarah Millican starts #joinin on twitter every year. It's brilliant. Just search for the hastag and join in adding your own hashtag. It's a lovely way to connect with others.

Merry Christmas everyone Xmas Smile

SingingLily · 25/12/2019 09:02

Dazed, I'm so sorry. That's really hard. There's nothing I can say to make it any better for you except please be kind to yourself 💐

HelloIsItXmasTree, I used to work with someone who was always jolly in the mornings. She gave the whole place a cheerful start. Only when she retired did she let us into her secret...she started every day with a coffee and a Baileys. Just the one mind, and she never drank anything the rest of the day.

Never underestimate the power of a tactical Baileys!

80sstyle · 25/12/2019 09:05

First time I’ve woken up on Christmas Day to an empty house and it’s not great. Wondering what to do with myself!

Fortunately I am visiting family later so haven’t got the whole day to kill. I might put some Christmas music on to distract myself while I get ready.

sashh · 25/12/2019 09:08

I don't have any bailey's , I could do hot chocolate with vanilla vodka.

I'm not sure what I'm doing today, I have my OU maths books out and I do need to catch up, I also got a free Netflix subscription for 2 months so any recommendations? I love thrillers, things you can't guess the ending.

“The house is clean and quiet, just how I like it, and today I'm going to listen to music, read a lot, and perhaps watch a favourite film.”

Sounds like bliss @SingingLily, can I come round? I promise I won’t mess your house up and will read quietly!

@IsItTooEarlyForABaileys put your scarf on immediately! It’s from someone who appreciates how hard you work.
Sorry to hear that @Dazedandconfused10
2020 can only be better, right?
I’m going to have a bath, coffee, go for check in on a neighbour, drive to the beach for a walk, back home and have and in-festive Christmas dinner of a curry I made yesterday in the slow cooker, read, watch tv and film.
Isn’t it funny how you’d think nothing of doing this on a day off and chilling and it sounding like a nice day, but it seems almost eerie and weird on Christmas Day. It’s all in the mind I suppose.

SingingLily · 25/12/2019 09:30

Confession time. I used to do a 24/7/365 job protecting the public and have been known to tell porkies about having to do a shift on Christmas Day just so I could have some peace.

I'm never going to go to heaven, am I? Grin

Peace and quiet are underrated, trust me.

TheBlueStocking · 25/12/2019 09:34

I'm doing the day alone too. Spent several alone, so I'm used to it.

I'm just having some mini cranberry and pork pies, bit of cheese, and a can of coke for my breakfast.

user1019273703 · 25/12/2019 09:36

Not on my own for dinner but its first year without my little girl. Sending well wishes to everyone.

Spanielmadness · 25/12/2019 09:37

I’m 38 and my first one alone (with the dog). Lovely lie in and a long dog walk is on the cards, then popping over to future BIL for lunch, then telly, crackers and cheese. Looking forward to it! Just need to get up.......

Ratbagcatbag · 25/12/2019 09:40

I've got my daughter now (she's 6) but she's off to her dads at 3pm. I've been invited to a friends for tea but I'm not sure I fancy getting out of PJs and driving.
I've had a lovely earring organiser so I may just make myself a very lush raspberry cocktail later, crack out the chocs and organise my earring collection.
