As above! Please can anyone help before i do nigella's coke ham with my turkey?!
Both delivered from butcher. One has string round it, one has red mesh stuff. Both look the same colour to me!! I will attempt to add pics...

Oh now I've seen the pictures I'm really not sure! Blush my ham has always been wrapped in mesh, i assume to hold it together. And is currently bubbling away in coke in slow cooker, at least, i hope it's ham!

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/12/2019 23:41

I feel really bad.
I clicked on the thread thinking it must be an idiot who can't tell the difference, and actually I'm not sure either!Xmas Blush

I'm glad it's not just me!

Now i will drip feed - i called the butcher and they said red mesh was ham. That completely contradicts taste test!!!!!

I have literally no clue
Oh fuck

This made me chuckle, sorry op! Mesh is ham the other one is turkey. Have a fab day tomorrow!

Mykittensaremyfriends · 24/12/2019 23:49

First pic is ham (flat meat) the second with red mesh is turkey. We've got a turkey crown from a butchers and it's identically wrapped in mesh. Gammon will be salty tasting too.

PointlessUsername · 24/12/2019 23:50

Where is the skin on the crown?.
I cooked a ham earlier and it had the red mesh.

Missanneshirley · 24/12/2019 23:50

Thank you!
Inwood why do you say so? I'm looking for a solid reason so i can relax about it!

Oh missed these other posts sorry. Skin on suspected crown seemed sort of inside- it seems rolled up which was the other reason i thought it was turkey?

I think the red mesh is ham. It looks the same shape as the cooked ham joints we get in at work.

VivaLeBeaver · 24/12/2019 23:57

Well I’d believe the butcher...plus that makes me right! 😁

64sNewName · 24/12/2019 23:58

Honestly don’t know but I’m enjoying your slightly lighthearted yet also kind of urgent Christmas problem

Wandastartup · 24/12/2019 23:59

Why don’t you toast them both then it won’t matter!

Wandastartup · 24/12/2019 23:59

Roast I mean!

Missanneshirley · 25/12/2019 00:00

I'm laughing now, but I'll be wailing at 8am wondering if I'm boiling the turkey in coke!

Missanneshirley · 25/12/2019 00:03

Eek I've never roasted a ham in my life!

Would a gammon joint always have a fatty outside layer/skin? Cos the mesh item does and the string item doesn't

OP posts:
Wandastartup · 25/12/2019 00:04

Wrap it in foil and roast like a joint. 20
Mins per lb I think.

MrsJoshNavidi · 25/12/2019 00:06

Smell them?

Missanneshirley · 25/12/2019 00:06

Thank you, that might be my last resort tmrw

HyperemesisandPND · 25/12/2019 00:10

Cooked gammon joints at work always have a layer of fat on the outside of them.

notthenormal · 25/12/2019 00:12

Pink or beige ?

justdoityourself · 25/12/2019 00:12

The one on the right is definitely the turkey, you can tell by the shape of them.

festivefrustration · 25/12/2019 00:13

Oh god op. This could potentially be disastrous but look on the bright side you’ll laugh for years to come at the Christmas you cooked the turkey in coke Grin

PickAChew · 25/12/2019 00:16

Just grope it and feel for the bones.

Missanneshirley · 25/12/2019 00:23

There wouldn't be bones would there?? Turkey breast?
