Is anyone else “building” anything tonight?

That’s right in the “Peggy Martin” household we have had the annual tradition of building a toy ready for Christmas.
So far we’ve had a selection of colourful swear words, stomping about, sighing, grunting, all the tools spread out over the floor, a rousing chorus of “just go in the hole you little twat” and an unfortunate incident with a bare foot and a screw (might have sniggered at DH)

If anyone has the chad valley 6 v electric police bike I’d start building it now Xmas Grin

This is partly why Lego is a good present. They have to build it themselves. Smile

PrettyShiningPeople · 24/12/2019 09:16

Ooh no, whatever it is building it is all part of the Christmas Day fun.

Oldraver · 24/12/2019 09:20

DS is passed that stage but I recommend anyone who buys Inaginext, to get a pair of snips and cut all the tie wraps before wrapping

motherrunner · 24/12/2019 09:40

Omg, playmobile pain! DS was bought the fire station set last year and foolishly I said to DH and the kids on Boxing Day, ‘won’t it be fun to put it together!’.

3 hours later kids had buggered off, DH’s every other word is ‘f*ck’ and I’m drinking.

DS played with it for about half hour and then started dismantling the thing ... 😡

We have a mud kitchen to do tonight when my 4 year old is asleep. The plan today was take them out for a big walk to tire her out and hopefully have an early bedtime. It’s currently thunder and lightening.

The memories of building the Ikea kitchen while drinking wine and watching Christmas TOTP do not fill me with confidence

Eminybob · 24/12/2019 10:17

Thomas and friends super station. Massive bastard thing.
Thankfully it is already partially assembled as I bought it second hand.

CuteOrangeElephant · 24/12/2019 10:17

I am setting up a DUPLO marble run tonight, my DD is a little bit too young to build it herself.

I've had a practice run already to ensure all the pieces are there, it will take me about an hour!

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 24/12/2019 11:20

Oh god we’ve got 3 playmobil sets Xmas Sad

Built a giant palace dollhouse for dd4. It's really well made and went together really well. Took two hours last night and it's now in garage waiting 😁

Is anyone else “building” anything tonight?

We have a Lego digger but decided he'd want to play with it ASAP (and he's a bit young for it) and we didn't want parts going missing or swearing in front of him. Hubbie has great fun building it although there's parts left over. Apparently normal he says...
Dreading larger things in following years

nancy75 · 24/12/2019 11:35

Dd is 14 now, but I still haven’t recovered from the horror of building the barbie dream house that ‘Santa brought’ several years ago. That, alongside then having to get the bastard thing up to her bedroom once she had opened it Xmas Angry
Very happy to be wrapping clothes, shoes & makeup with no assembly required.

Howmanysleepsnow · 24/12/2019 11:48

No building here, but have just realised 2x kids kindle fires need setting up/ charging. Have made ds14 lock himself in his room with them on the pretext of wrapping while they charge. Will probably need him to help with setup too as I’m a complete technophobe!

Eminybob · 24/12/2019 11:50

I love building playmobil!

Figmentofimagination · 24/12/2019 11:52

We have a toot-toot super race track to build tonight once DH gets home from work and DS is asleep. Luckily it was 2nd hand, so it's been built and then dismantled into manageable pieces so shouldn't take as long to re-build.

LadyCordeliaVorkosigan · 24/12/2019 11:55

We have a loft bed to assemble tonight. Dd is unlikely to sleep until she can get in it...

LBOCS2 · 24/12/2019 11:55

Built a wooden playhouse last night. We've got a scooter to set up on Christmas Day... I've already wrapped it in its box because it's much easier like that.

I twitched and bought both DDs playmobil earlier, they can assemble those tomorrow!

neversleepagain · 24/12/2019 11:59

Just adding mud guards to out dc's new bikes.

Natsku · 24/12/2019 11:59

We celebrate today so I was building a doll's house for DD last night. Got half way through and realised I fucked up the first step and had to take it apart and start again. But it wasn't too bad, definitely easier than the IKEA kitchen!!

I forgot several items that were supposed to go in the stockings though and forgot to wrap one of DD's presents but the kids were happy enough this morning.

MakeUpGirl · 24/12/2019 12:21

I’ve got an LOL dolls house to build tonight, dreading it but looking on the bright side that it can’t be worse than the kidkraft kitchen that took 4 hours 2 years ago 🙈

Dill2018 · 24/12/2019 12:23

First ever Christmas Eve build for my DD a wooden toy kitchen. Hoping it's straight forward & not too much swearing & wine needed 😂

whereareyousleep · 24/12/2019 12:36

I've got a ride on digger and a tool bench to build can't start until 8.30pm when the eldest gone to bed

JigsawsAreInPieces · 24/12/2019 12:58

I remember building a Dolls House Emporium house and still sticking roof slates on at 5 am Christmas day. Think the glue was just set when she discovered Santa had been! Bastard thing took me 6 weeks to build! Xmas Hmm

emwithme · 24/12/2019 13:11

DD and I have gone visiting so DH can build the Aldi kitchen without there being a divorce or a murder.

ClaraLane · 24/12/2019 13:16

DD is at the in laws today and my parents are coming over in an hour to assemble the IKEA kitchen. No wine for me as I’m pregnant sadly!

eitak22 · 24/12/2019 13:26

If you have a games console can I recommend plugging it in and checking it doesn't need updates as otherwise could take a while Christmas day.

No toy building here thankfully.
