Does anyone know of any gatherings or meals on Christmas day for people who have no family?

I’m finding it really tough this year, and I really don’t want to be on my own. I’m in North London

Sorry, I do, but it's not near you.
You can always talk to us lot.GrinWineCake

My church is having a lunch for anyone who would otherwise be on their own, it's open to anyone - church member or not. Not much help to you as I'm up north, but there may be a church local to you doing the same thing.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 23/12/2019 18:56

South London seems a lot friendlier than north - I found a pub in Wimbledon and a restaurant in catford based on a quick Google.

Church?

Where I am, the local art social space is open.
So maybe browsing Facebook for charities local to you might yield results.

If anybody has any funny cat videos, or anything else, please send them to me now… I’m bawling my eyes out… I’m really upset. And it’s really hard with everybody’s asking you have you done your Christmas shopping, do you have family to go to… No I don’t I’m sorry if there are mistakes in my post, a visually impaired and the music dictated… Dictation gets it wrong at the best of times, and I’m crying… So if there’s a funny message, that’s why.

Am so sorry, wish you were local to us.

KTD27 · 23/12/2019 19:00

Where in north London @Hellokittymania?

AgentCooper · 23/12/2019 19:00

Oh love ❤️ There must be some near you, London is a big place. I can think of several in Glasgow where I live and we’re tiny in comparison. Once DS is in bed I can have a google.

Christmas is so emotionally heavy.

It will depend partly on where you are and how far you are prepared to travel, but https://www.meetup.com is perfect fir , err, meeting up.

You might like to try hosting one, too, if you enjoy those made by others.

Hope you find something you can enjoy xx

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 23/12/2019 19:02

I use dragon sometimes and it's bizarre the mistakes it makes.

St Columbas church in Knightsbridge - technically north London - has a watch night service quite late tomorrow night or communion at 10 on Christmas day.
That would be 'my' church in London so I would hope it would be friendly.
There's no expectation of being Presbyterian - it seems to be a mixed bunch.

Is this any good to you. I’m not familiar with north London but this came up when I googled north London community Christmas dinner

Hellokittymania · 23/12/2019 19:07

Sorry, it’s taking me a while to catch up with messages. KTD, I am in West Hempstead.
I opened the reengage website, but it’s not giving me anything on Christmas.

this Web page has a list of lots of community Christmas lunches. I think lots are in churches but don't know about all of them.

LadyChatterleysHoover · 23/12/2019 19:07

For you

Does anyone know of any gatherings or meals on Christmas day for people who have no family?
Tiggles · 23/12/2019 19:08

Ah sorry, see you already gave the engage webpage

LittleMissnotLittleMrs · 23/12/2019 19:17

My favourite cat video

Hellokittymania · 23/12/2019 19:24

Thank you for the cat videos… Listening to the one with the Hoover is hilarious. I was going to ask, do you have to be older to attend one of the reengage events? I’m not over 75 by a long way… Do you think they will make an exception? There is one community lunch near me

Yeah i heard on a podcast about the pub in Wimbledon, sounds fun if you live in the area. A pub in North London might be doing the same?

MarianaMoatedGrange · 23/12/2019 19:33

Hi OP I don't live in London so can't help, but I hope you find something suitable. There'll be loads of mumsnetters here over Christmas to chat to. I spend Christmas alone by choice, but understand it's different if you don't want to be alone.

Best of luck!

Zebrasinpyjamas · 23/12/2019 19:35

The Alex pub in central Wimbledon has an "everyone welcome" Christmas dinner. It sounds fun every year from the comments after. Is getting there a possibility?

milliefiori · 23/12/2019 19:45

Hi OP

There's this which looks fun in Central London. Coffee at pret then servcie at Westminster Abbey then dinne rin Chinatown and finally a club of some sort. I've been to a meet up before and it was lovely. A real mix of people.

There's also a more trad pub lunch in NW3 here

Are any of those good for you? There are a few people going to each one. Some are travellers excited to be in London, some are people like you who are single on the day and want company.

I really hope you can dry your eyes and get out and meet some people. It could be a lovely, memorable day.

Hellokittymania · 23/12/2019 19:51

Hi there, I’m not sure where the black lion is, but I will have a look. I also sent a message to the Alex pub, and I asked if anyone else from my area may be going there… Who could give me a Lyft possibly. I’m just nervous about not being able to get a cab… Are they usually available on Christmas Day easily?

Can someone tell me how far it is from West Hempstead to Wimbledon without any traffic? I was trying to look, and it’s giving me an hour and 20 minutes by train… So how long is it by car? Sorry but I can’t get an idea of it… Visual maps aren’t very helpful for me…
