Does anyone know of any gatherings or meals on Christmas day for people who have no family?

I’m finding it really tough this year, and I really don’t want to be on my own. I’m in North London

Have you looked at The Salvation Army Website?

Xiaoxiong · 23/12/2019 20:29

I would think 45 mins by car and I'm sure there will be taxis on Christmas Day, we always find minicabs are working as normal!

Hello @Hellokittymania I’ve taken a look and it’s 40 mins by car (right now) or 11 miles.

It’s very brave to take a leap to do something different at this time of year. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, wherever you decide to go. I’m sorry I’m not closer to you!

Hellokittymania · 23/12/2019 20:33

Thank you, wise owl. And do you know how easy it is to get a taxi on Christmas Day? Will there be taxis available. I did ask the pub, and they have asked around to see if anybody could give me a lift, but if they can’t, and I decide to go there, will it be easy to get a taxi?

There will be mini cabs around but you should book in advance.

lookingforthis · 23/12/2019 21:07

Also they might charge more on Christmas Day so you should find out in advance.

Hellokittymania · 23/12/2019 21:10

OK, I will tomorrow.

My local community pages have a number of families and businesses offering for people to join them. I'm in a different county to you but are there Facebook sites for your local area as I'm sure if you post in there you'll get people letting you know of offers.

I think it's very courageous of you to post this and try and change your situation rather than accept something that's upsetting you, as it would have been easy to bury your head in the sand.

I hope you find somewhere lovely to spend your day Flowers

Last Christmas Day out of curiosity I looked on Uber to see if any drivers available, and there were plenty.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 23/12/2019 21:55

If you could make it to Hampshire my family will offer you a warm welcome and quite a lot of turkey!

KTD27 · 24/12/2019 07:12

@Hellokittymania WH is only about half an hour from Winchmore hill and on Saturday 28th there is a lovely place called Chi Chi’s coffee and Waffle House which is doing a free Christmas lunch for anyone lonely or in need. Have a look on their Facebook page or Dm me if you need more information or can’t find it Flowers

trixiebelden77 · 24/12/2019 07:43

Are you on Twitter?

Sarah Milican does a #joinin on twitter for people who’d like more/different company.

Towrl · 24/12/2019 08:08

Ubers are plenty and not too expensive on Xmas day!

MyReadingChallenge · 24/12/2019 08:15

Do you have Uber? It can be a good way to book taxis

Also I know the wrong side of the river to you but this is running on Christmas Day on the off chance you are into vintage busses...

Oh op I feel for you. DP and I helped out at a Christmas lunch on Christmas day last year. It was simply advertised as being for people of all ages who didn't want to be alone on Christmas day. We collected 2 sets of people, helped with the lunch, games and Carol singing and then drove people home. It was lovely and I know a few people made friends and kept in touch. I hope you can find something similar near you x

Bluesheep8 · 24/12/2019 08:18

And don't forget, very often the people who volunteer to help out at these events are doing so because they don't have anyone to spend the day with either....

CherryOnBlue · 24/12/2019 08:43

You’ll get an Uber easily.
Last year we got a pre booked mini cab on to our Christmas lunch, and an Uber back. The Uber was at least half the price. (Our journey was West London to North London - so not dissimilar to yours)

Lostpuzzlepiece · 24/12/2019 09:04

Whereabouts in North London are you? I'm in East London and will be on my own too...

Hellokittymania · 24/12/2019 16:33

Trying to find a cab for tomorrow as our local cab company is fully booked. I just tried to install the Uber app

There were cabins available from August back to West Hampstead. Cabs available from Wimbledon. I don't know what dictation just did… Ha ha ha

Hellokittymania · 24/12/2019 16:33

August doesn't even sound like Wimbledon… At all

KTD, if it is very hard to get to the Alexandria tomorrow, I would love to go to the one on Saturday, and will have the added bonus of transport running…

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I went to the Alexandra and I had a fantastic time. The food was great, I met some really nice people, and they gave us Christmas presents too, including the cupcake! And they helped with a taxi home. Thank you so much everyone, it has really been a nice day. Now, I’m going to make a coffee, enjoy the treats from the goody bag… And yes, that includes my cupcake, and watch the Christmas prints the royal baby…
