Where have vegetarian hotdogs gone?

Has anyone else noticed that they are not on sale anywhere?
Quorn, IKEA and supermarket own brands have completely disappeared off shelves.
Now I can only find vegetable versions but not the orignal soya versions.

The Quorn ones are crap- taste rubbish, and take a long time to cook. Veggie hotdogs take 3 minutes on simmer.

Ive been searching too

Used to eat tescos or sainsburys ones

Too late now Sad

PumpkinP · 22/12/2019 20:42

Tesco’s use to sell these which my son loved and funnily enough I was looking for them the other day but they have disappeared

There seems to be a new trend of veggie sausages which are nothing like real sausages, or rather are not seen to be masquerading as real sausages. They're all butternut squash and pepper or spinach and mushroom. So, just a bunch of vegetables rolled into the shape of a sausage and which turn to mush and stick to whatever surface they're cooked on, then fall apart when you try to scrape them off. Like PP above, I miss the Tesco Lincolnshire style sausages. They were lovely.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/12/2019 20:47

I've bought the Sainsbury's sausage rolls for Christmas Eve. Not tried them before.

I like the hotdogs in a very wintery sausage casserole.

SheShriekedShrilly · 22/12/2019 20:49

Tesco do the Tivall ones, although possibly not just before Christmas. I’ve been eating those for 30 years...

bluebump · 22/12/2019 20:53

We’ve been mourning the loss of the Tesco ones in the bag that were about £1, none of our family around the country have been able to get them. We quite like the Cauldron ones from the chiller section but they are much more expensive.

Bezalelle · 22/12/2019 20:54

Ohgod I really want vegan hotdogs now.

Halloweenbabyy · 22/12/2019 21:08

Look I. Holland and barrettes

EvilPea · 22/12/2019 21:09

Yes!!! I’ve noticed this. The fry’s ones had a funny taste I thought. The quorn ones were perfect. I also can’t find the Linda McCartney’s leek and cheese pastry things anywhere.

There’s a lot of new veggie stuff out which is great, but it’s expensive and tastes a bit odd. I like to buy the quorn or Linda McCartney frozen stuff and just pop whatever the veggie equivalent is for me so we all have the same dinner.

Jobseeker19 · 22/12/2019 21:11

I'm glad other people have noticed. I cant find the frozen ones anywhere. They have been replaced by vegetable mush.

The Taifun ones are good, I think they’re in Waitrose? I’ve seen Taifun stuff popping up more often. They are expensive though. Haven’t tried the Tesco ones.

The Quorn sausage patties are in my Tesco so definitely still about

GrumpyHoonMain · 22/12/2019 21:18

Depending on where you live it’s possible they have been bulk bought already for Christmas. A lot of South Asian families will buy 10-20 packs over Christmas if catering a ‘western’ style Christmas (a lot of supermarkets locally have limited us to 3 packs of Quorn sausages per shop).

Not in my case...ive been looking for tesco/sainsburys ones since November

TowandaForever · 22/12/2019 22:14

I was low carving and eating these..

They haven’t been in my Tesco for months.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 22/12/2019 22:16

Beginning of November...i like to start early

TheLittleBrownFox · 22/12/2019 22:17

Taifen ones are in waitrose still.

I just prefer then to the most version bevause they taste the same and lord only knows what counts as meat in the meaty ones Grin I'm now buying then to train my dog with though (meat, not veggie!)

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 22/12/2019 22:18

I was coming on to say the same thing as greyhound22 about the ikea ones.

I like the Tesco ones. I made corn dogs with them.
The quorn ones went a bit too chewy for deep frying.

HotSauceCommittee · 22/12/2019 22:18

This is driving me crackers. Both Tesco and Sainsbury's frozen veggie dogs have just stopped existing and I miss them.

IceniSky · 22/12/2019 22:19

I've noticed a lot of qourn products have been difficult to get hold of recently.

Cineraria · 22/12/2019 22:23

Ocado have the frozen Quorn hotdogs. My guess is that lots of places are replacing them with an alternative that is vegan rather than just vegetarian as the contain egg.

AudTheDeepMinded · 22/12/2019 22:26

@IceniSky we had this in Exeter, couldn't get mince or chicken pieces for love nor money, but they are back with a vengeance now.
I've also not seen Quorn hot dogs for ages, I MISS them!

BedraggledBlitz · 22/12/2019 22:41

Yes I noticed this. I made a special trip to sainsbury's for their own brand frozen ones - NONE! I eventually tracked down some Quorn top dogs in a big asda store so bought 4 packs. Cant find the bacon anywhere.

BedraggledBlitz · 22/12/2019 22:41

Also quorn gammon roast is near impossible to find.

Thismummyruns · 22/12/2019 22:45

I've been trying to get the Tesco ones for months on the weekly shop, thought maybe it was a supply issue but obviously not!
