Great news for "Dogger" fans! Shirley Hughes has written a new Dogger book, set on Christmas Day. I imagine it's for next Christmas , as it would have been in the shops by now. It's about Dogger getting lost again - on Christmas Day!

I’m thinking is this a book for people who have sex in cars in public? 🤔

MiseryChops · 22/12/2019 15:31

Oh sorry that’s dogging

Aaah I love dogger!

Blueemeraldagain · 22/12/2019 15:35

Oh my god! Dogger was practically a family member when I was growing up.
I loved sending the books over to my nieces in Australia because their parents had never heard of him!

FuzzyPuffling · 22/12/2019 16:38

Hurrah...a favourite in our house. All Shirley Hughes books are.

RockinAround · 22/12/2019 16:39

How lovely!

Dogger was my little sister’s favourite book when we were small. I can still remember the illustrations vividly.

There's an interview in the Observer with her son, the journalist Ed Vulliamy , about the new book. Think it's online too.

Ah how lovely.

“Then Bella did something very kind” is one of the most sublime moments of children’s literature.

BowiesJumper · 22/12/2019 17:08

My fave book as a kid!

Sazquatch · 22/12/2019 17:10

Oh I love Dogger. My son has a beloved Dogger soft toy that he used to ‘read’ the book to when he was wee.

FuzzyPuffling · 22/12/2019 17:10

We loved the one where Alfie locks himself in the house...and locks everybody else out.

MerchantOfVenom · 22/12/2019 17:59

Thanks for letting us know - Dogger was the bed time book of choice for months in a row when DC were small. 💜

Celebelly · 22/12/2019 18:03

One of my fave books as a kid! I bought it when DD arrived and love reading it to her Smile

sittingonacornflake · 22/12/2019 18:07

Thank you so much for the heads up. My son loves dogger so I will definitely be buying this!

SkaterGrrrrl · 22/12/2019 18:12

Dogger!!!!

RedskyAtnight · 22/12/2019 18:17

My DS has a much loved "Doggy" and Dogger was read over and over (and yes, Doggy was frequently lost in much the same way as Dogger).

That's DS's Christmas present sorted for next year :)
(he will be 16)

OddshoesOddsocks · 22/12/2019 18:19

I LOVE dogger!!

RebornFlame · 22/12/2019 18:21

Ahh, we love Dogger apart from the phase of having the audio book on for every school run for two months

fleariddenmoggie · 22/12/2019 18:25

Dogger always makes me cry - despite having read it numerous times over the years

MrsBartlet · 22/12/2019 18:33

So exciting! Dogger is my all time favourite picture book.

saraclara · 22/12/2019 18:37

Dogger is the most beautiful of stories. There can be no better way for a child to discover what it means to be unselfish, or what it means to have someone be kind to you.

I can wait to read the original to my new granddaughter.
