Can anyone let me know what you think of your ring doorbell and which one it is.

I will be installing one before I go away for Christmas and have read that the original Ring is more robust than the Ring 2.

Also, did you buy the ding dong bit to plug in inside (can't think of the word to use!) or do you rely on tech.

Any other brands too - doesn't have to be Ring. I can buy Ring at Argos or Screwfix locally but could get another brand if it is available on Prime for delivery on Monday.

You mean a chime? Smile

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 21/12/2019 08:54

I bought a Ring2 and Chime (the indoor ding dong bit) as a bundle mainly because the offer meant it was cheaper than the Ring alone.
Mine is hardwired to existing internal chiming bit. I've only just set up the Ring Chime thing as if we have TV on and the door shut I can miss the doorbell.
I intend to change the tone on the Chime to Barking Dogs and put it in the hall when we are out!

Sussexbonfireviking · 21/12/2019 09:00

I got the ring 2 and installed it yesterday.
Came with a free show 5. If you have Alexa you dont need a chime, she will tell you "motion detected at front door" or someone is at the door.

I thought I had to buy a chime, so was pretty pissed off, but then realised I could use alexa

This is my 'outing name' so heres the view from mine

Chime 😂 that will be it then!!

Thanks all 😁. I don’t have (or want) Alexa ? Would just rely on the iOS app if I didn’t buy a chime.

That’s a good picture Sussex.

We have the hardwired Ring 2. It's pretty good, but you do need a decent WiFi connection. I'd get the chime personally because it sometimes takes a bit longer to pop up on my phone, but again this will depend on your internet connection(s). Overall, I'd recommend it. We have the floodlight cam for the back garden and a Spotlight one for the garage as well, definitely gives you peace of mind.

Mustbetimeforachange · 21/12/2019 09:40

You need a really good internet connection. We thought ours was good & ended up spending ££ so we could actually use the damn thing! If you want to talk to someone internet needs to be good at both ends.

Snozzlemaid · 21/12/2019 09:45

How long is battery life if it's not wired in?

stealingchristmascake · 21/12/2019 09:56

It's pretty good, but the more you use it (eg for live view ), the more power it uses. It does warn you on the app when it's getting low. I would guess we charge ours roughly every six weeks. But I do use live view quite regularly.

ooooohbetty · 21/12/2019 09:59

They just get stolen from people's doors round here.

MongerTruffle · 21/12/2019 10:02

If you can stretch your budget a bit, I would get a Nest Hello doorbell, because the video quality is so much better.

LesLavandes · 21/12/2019 10:13

Mine is a bit disappointing due to wifi.

My router us just inside on other side of wall but connection not good. So my indoor chime rings about 30 seconds after someone presses the bell. Not very satisfactory. I wish I could change this.

Any thoughts?

My battery only lasts a few weeks

DookofBust · 21/12/2019 12:47

Thank you everyone. I think I will go for one. I don’t want to stretch my budget Monger but thank you.

@Snozzlemaid Our battery lasts a while - best part of a month. We have two batteries so just swap them over when it is getting lower.

Snozzlemaid · 21/12/2019 13:42

Thanks daisy.
That sounds like the best plan.

recreationalcalpol · 21/12/2019 14:04

We got ours hardwired in to the mains, so no worries about battery life

GoldLeafTree · 21/12/2019 19:07

I got one today reduced with a free Amazon Show 5 from Argos. I ordered it as my home has been marked for burglary and it's reassured me massively.

I get a notification on my Amazon Show as well as my phone every time somebody walks past my front door.

Battery life depends on the settings you choose for it. I've chosen for it to be very sensitive and to send a notification and record every time somebody walks past so the battery will drain quicker but I think average is around 6 monrhs

LittleSweet · 21/12/2019 19:19

They are really loud when you talk from a different location. I have heard my neighbour announcing to the whole street that they are out. Not great for security.

Bloomburger · 21/12/2019 19:27

If you already have a doorbell you can just swap the outside bit over and use the old chime rather than buying the chime, it's what I did when I installed it myself (without any help from DS who was convinced I'd cock it up and need his 15 year old man brain!!)

Bloomburger · 21/12/2019 19:28

Oh and I'm pretty sure they replace them fir free if stolen.

mrshoho · 21/12/2019 19:52

We are pleased with ours. It's battery powered and we have the chime you plug in. This has just reminded me to change it to a christmassy ring. it's been good for deliveries we would otherwise have missed as dh has answered and told them to give it to our neighbour. The camera is very clear during daylight but night time not too clear.

SussexBonfireViking · 21/12/2019 20:08

@DookofBust
if it was £129 with the show, its the same price at Amazon

Be1atrix · 21/12/2019 20:42

We have Ring 2 and a Chime. Only fitted this week, ex did it for us in about half an hour. Not wired to existing bell as didn't have one.

LOVE it so far. Really great view, have answered the door to a delivery man while I was at work!

If you want to be able to save and share videos you need to pay for the package which is £25 for the year (you get a month free)

TheShoeLady · 21/12/2019 22:16

I visited a relative today. Rang the doorbell, he answered, we went in, said hello, took off shoes etc sat down, he made us a drink. Then his phone chimed. It was the Ring doorbell telling him that another relative (who had arrived before us!) was at the door Grin

Apparently he usually gets a notification as someone is walking away at the end of the drive! Seems like you need good internet for Ring to work properly.

TheShoeLady · 21/12/2019 22:18

@GoldLeafTree how was your house ‘marked for burglary’ if you don’t mind me asking?

DookofBust · 21/12/2019 22:18

I have seen that deal Sussex but I have purposely avoided Alexa and would rather have a chime and the iOS app.
