Best of MN Classics

I was looking for an old thread & thought I might find it in classics. I didn't find it, but probably more to do with the fact that I kept (re)reading old threads.

Found this one & cannot stop laughing - My DH says he wants to take me up the Oxo tower for Valentine's Day... www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/703760-My-DH-says-he-wants-to-take-me-up-the

What's your fave thread in classics?

@AuntieStella you beat me too it - a wonderful story of selfless love

TranquilityofSolitude · 21/12/2019 08:31

Sinister Easter bonnet was always one of my favourites, but that's from a long time ago.

AllNewThings · 21/12/2019 09:01

There was one very many years ago where the OP found a plastic fanny her DH was hiding in the shed. Suggestion of what she should do included sticking hair to it and giving it teeth. I was absolutely howling. I wish I could find it again.

Sparklingbrook · 21/12/2019 09:09

Totally agree with @TheCanterburyWhales. Most of the so called Classic threads leave me cold.
Penis Beaker was a MN low point and not funny, and a lot of the others seem made up and contrived.

BabbleBee · 21/12/2019 09:14

@AuntieStella that’s the first time a MN post has made me cry! Wow, what a woman.

Igmum · 21/12/2019 09:20

SpanGran. Did it turn out to be a troll in the end? I thought it was great

Raffles1981 · 21/12/2019 09:30

Snapped and Farted thread had me howling. The OP could not understand why we were all asking if it was autocorrect.

Cosmos45 · 21/12/2019 09:57

@AuntieStella - I remember reading that many moons ago.. don’t think I can go there at the moment. Very heartbreaking and moving

user32564567 · 21/12/2019 10:04

Most of these were made up threads. Nowadays you only have to say 'fart' and you get into classics.

Sparklingbrook · 21/12/2019 10:06

I read and reread snapped and farted so many times but still didn’t get it.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 21/12/2019 10:17

Anal PILs, and the terrible effect of retirement on some people.

LazyDaisey · 21/12/2019 10:46

doing a shiner penguin

OP finds boyfriend active on an online dating site, creates a fake profile, dumps him. I won’t give away the details in case you want to read the “how”

TrueCrimeFan · 21/12/2019 14:44

Following as in need of a cheer up

WellbeingMyArse · 21/12/2019 15:00

Expectation v Reality is the best thread IMO.
-Fat match
-Suzy Quatros fat nan
-Uncouth Cypriot goat herder
Just to name a few.

As for best post within a thread:
Two words: Your minge.

WineGummyBear · 21/12/2019 15:04

What's the name (or even better link) of the Mexican house thief?

I've been hearing about it for years and never read it...

Ilovetolurk · 21/12/2019 15:08

I don’t think it made it to classics as 30 days only but the Tell Me Your Middle Class Injuries thread was my absolute favourite. With the high being the woman who fell out of an olive tree in amongst the mandoline and avocado stoning accidents.

QueenOfOversharing · 21/12/2019 15:48

@WineGummyBear for you (& others who may not have read this) here's the link...

Have you ever encountered anyone this cheeky? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/1735637-Have-you-ever-encountered-anyone-this-cheeky

Last years advent house of Fraser advent calendar thread. So funny and made a nice change from reading the many threads of posters opening their umpteen expensive calendars.

I agree re the amount of nonsense making it into classics, really odd.

BlueCookieMonster · 21/12/2019 16:42

The woman who accidentally spray painted a pidgeon. Still has me giggling when I reread it.

WineGummyBear · 21/12/2019 20:04

Thanks queenofoversharing

chillykiwi · 21/12/2019 20:06

It's got to be the hedge sex one.

itcamefrombeckyvardyself · 22/12/2019 10:26

I woke my
Husband up by laughing twice last night reading the links.

QueenOfOversharing · 23/12/2019 07:47

@WellbeingMyArse I was crying reading that last night! The descriptions!

These killed me:

"In the 80s I decided to jump on the bandwagon and get a perm. I have very dark hair and had envisioned long loose glossy waves. Unfortunately the perm was so tight that it shortened my hair dramatically and when I walked into my boyfriend's mum's house afterwards his brother-in-law shouted "bloody hell it's Colonel Gaddafi"

And

I have also come to the sad conclusion that I Must Not Wear Woolly Hats. I imagine I will look like Claudia Schiffer in Love Actually, or some sort of Alpine, cheeks-aglow, winsome beauty. But multiple failures have proved that I just look like I have got away from my carer and am on the hunt for crayons to eat."

@AuntieStella that thread is incredible - I re-read it recently & wept at the updates.
