I looked at the link earlier and I think it had possibly crashed?

Fed up with Hotpoint/whirlpool/Indesit. Got a Hotpoint tumble dryer too! Sad They seem to dominate the market.

tobee · 17/12/2019 14:57

Sorry not that link. Bbc news app one and Sky News web page listing weren't working.

What should I do if I think I own one?
Whirlpool has set up a model checker online, although this itself appears to have crashed. Owners of Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines bought since October 2014 will need to enter the model and serial number of their appliance - found inside the door or on the back - to see if it is one of those affected.
There is also a free helpline, open every day, available on 0800 316 1442, but this too was initially telling callers it was "unobtainable".

If affected, to eliminate any risk, the appliance should be unplugged and not used until it repaired in their home by a trained engineer, Whirlpool said. As an alternative, those affected will also be offered a replacement with a safe model.

Owners can check and register for a repair or replacement now. Vulnerable customers will be prioritised, but for others it may be organised on a first come, first served basis.

Did the model checker work for you op? Still gonna to server failure here!

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 17/12/2019 16:15

I don’t know if this is the complete list - news sites are saying it is but there’s only three Indesit models on it and no Whirlpool.

iirc whilpool is the mother company that makes hotpoint and indesit.

though we used to have a whirlpool machine in a rented house. that was properly shit.

Thanks so much for posting recall list. Tried several times to get on site via BBC link but it just crashes.
We're on the list. 😕

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 17/12/2019 18:39

Hate the cunting bastards with a passion after the tumble dryer fuck up.

So much waste and so much hassle and money down the drain.

Cunts.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 17/12/2019 18:40

And I’m being polite here!

anothernamejeeves · 17/12/2019 18:44

Waited on hold for half an hour then got cut off

How are they still allowed to continue trading with their death trap appliances

noblegiraffe · 17/12/2019 18:48

I read this assuming it was the old tumble drier thing. How can they have another bunch of appliances that catch fire??

VanyaHargreeves · 17/12/2019 18:48

Mines not affected but thanks for posting. The landlord has a job lot in every flat had to check could've been a disaster.

SilverySurfer · 17/12/2019 18:52

My Whirlpool washing machine is sixteen years old and I assume it's not part of this

stripeypillowcase · 17/12/2019 18:56

it's machines bought from october 2014, so 5 years and younger.
and yes, I suspect many are in rentals (as they are cheap)

tobee · 17/12/2019 18:59

Thanks for the screenshot. Mines not affected, it's not that new it seems.

tobee · 17/12/2019 19:01

As suppose there's some trigger when there's been X number of problems, but seems extra frustrating that it's just before Christmas

BertieBotts · 17/12/2019 19:02

Every time I read about this kind of thing it makes me wonder, the fire service always say washing machines and tumble driers are major causes of fire yet its it actually that they are inherently dangerous or is it just that this particular brand is so crappy they manage to cause all the fires on their own and therefore inflate the figures?

VanyaHargreeves · 17/12/2019 19:10

Bit worried as mine was definitely purchased after that date. The flat I live in wasn't built then. But the serial number is not on the list, so....must be OK? Confused

ithinkmycatistryingtokillme · 17/12/2019 19:16

Ours is one affected, just contacted our landlord who is going to try and find out what is happening tomorrow.

FaithInfinity · 17/12/2019 19:34

Ours is affected. I am so pissed off! When we were looking at a new one, I said to (not so D right now) H we should get a more expensive brand because we had savings and he talked me round. Now I’m stuck with a cheap washing machine I can’t use until it’s repaired or replaced the week before Christmas!

Whatdidisay · 17/12/2019 19:39

My 9kg machine isn't on that list yet all the other sizes of the same model is! I wonder if that is the full list?

noblegiraffe · 17/12/2019 19:47

When it was tumble driers we were told we could still use them so long as they weren’t left unsupervised. It must be pretty bad if this time the instructions are to unplug.

MunchMunch · 17/12/2019 19:49

Thanks for the link, I've tried the whirlpool website link that dh sent but it wouldn't load. My model is on there Angry my dryer was also on the recall list a few years ago.

FairyOnTheTree · 17/12/2019 19:53

Bugger, mine is on there.
