Argh. I've spent so much.

But I feel like the kids should have new clothes for Christmas day.

That's a thing, right?

No!
There's enough stress, time and money spent on tat actual presents!

Mammyloveswine · 15/12/2019 22:28

Yes but they'll be given them to unwrap!

FesteredFairy · 15/12/2019 22:30

No. At least not with that purpose.

We do for big Christmases but not this year as it's a quiet one at home

Boots20 · 15/12/2019 22:33

Yes we get our kids christmas day/boxing day clothes - maybe it's an irish thing? Everyone I know gets new clothes for Christmas it's just the done thing where I live, wish it wasnt though because it's just more money that I could be doing with not spending!

megletthesecond · 15/12/2019 22:34

No.
Running kit on first thing for parkrun then back home and into cosy house clothes. Nothing fancy at all, there's only three of us.

BackforGood · 15/12/2019 22:37

No.

I mean, we tend to put something nice on for Christmas day, and it might include something that has been part of their present, but they would have it as part of their present only because they needed it (or, as they became older, wanted some particular item that didn't come into budget of 'usual clothes I'd buy').
None of us have clothes so we can specifically be wearing new clothes on Christmas day though.

PineappleDanish · 15/12/2019 22:47

No it's not a thing.

No. But my eldest likes to wear something that she's been given for Christmas.

momof4beayties · 15/12/2019 23:37

@Cuddling57 who cares, you can get a half decent outgit for £50 so so what its only £50

UnderTheButtNutHut · 16/12/2019 00:04

Yes we grew up poor so Xmas clothes were a real treat and although my children don't 'need' them it's a tradition which I seem to have stuck to since I've had kids. I don't usually bother buying myself anything as I have loads of dresses or nice tops I can wear. We usually go visit grandparents on xmas day so it's always nice to be dressed up a little. Apart from DS2 who wears nothing but tracksuits eyeroll

UnderTheButtNutHut · 16/12/2019 00:07

momof4beayties you are completely out of touch with other people's reality. £50 is a lot to a lot of people.

And your other post is ridiculous.

56Marshmallow · 16/12/2019 00:11

As a kid, we always got some "best" clothes to wear on Christmas Day that would be used for special occasions throughout the year.
I don't do it for my kids, we slob around in pyjamas!

FiveNightsAtMummys · 16/12/2019 00:13

I have before when dc were little. I have bought myself a christmassy novelty type dress this year just for fun

therealcj · 16/12/2019 00:31

I tend to include a new outfit as part of their christmas gifts. Something they want something they need something to wear and something to read.

gangsterwrapper · 16/12/2019 00:33

@UnderTheButtNutHut @momof4beayties has posted that same ludicrous bull in 3 different places and no ones bitten. Long for a reaction to the pipe dream I suspect 🤷🏻‍♀️

gangsterwrapper · 16/12/2019 00:33

*looking

avamiah · 16/12/2019 00:42

I’ll be honest here and say that if it wasn’t for my 9 year old daughter and my mother then I wouldn’t even celebrate Christmas .
The expense is ridiculous for just 2 days and people are so bloody competitive about decorations and outside lights .
As for wearing new clothes, I don’t but I always buy my daughter a new outfit and new pyjamas on Christmas Eve .

Yes it’s a big thing here and for our extended family. DC get dressed up in party dresses or smart outfits for the boys, even the grown ups get dressed up for the main meal. Doesn’t always have to be new clothes but everyone is expected to make an effort

UnderTheButtNutHut · 16/12/2019 00:50

@gangsterwrapper ahh I see, one of 'those' ones then. Thanks for the heads up.

gangsterwrapper · 16/12/2019 01:02

@underTheButtNutHut anytime, I look forward to my token 1k present 😂

Idontkowmyname · 16/12/2019 01:20

@gangsterwrapper only 1K spending this year, you really are reigning things in.
