What do you spend your Christmas bonus on?

Have just been informed by my boss that I will be receiving a £1000 bonus after tax for Christmas. This is a LOT to me as we never usually get bonuses. Sitting here thinking and I have NO idea what to do with it.

Help!!

DH doesn't get an xmas bonus but an end of year one, usually paid around May time. We tend to use it towards a holiday.

Emmacb82 · 13/12/2019 17:14

Another NHS nurse so no bonus, not even a free pen anymore!! But how lovely and just before Christmas. I would save it until something comes along, would be easy to just spend it on Christmas treats etc but nicer to wait for something bigger and better x

reginafelangee · 13/12/2019 17:15

I work in the third sector so no bonuses.

But if I received an unexpected £1K I'm afraid I'd be very boring and put in into savings.

TiReDmUmone · 13/12/2019 17:25

Thank you from a nurse it's nice to be appreciated
Enjoy Christmas and if you can't think of anything maybe save it towards a holiday or something

BlackSwanGreen · 13/12/2019 17:32

I spent my £100 bonus on a new handbag. If it was £1000 I'd probably save it.

Groovee · 13/12/2019 17:34

I'd spent that on a family holiday!

inwood · 13/12/2019 17:34

When I first started working in prof services many moons ago we always got a Christmas bonus. 3k wasn't unusual. Haven't had one for years!

I'd spend it on a weekend away in feb half term.

gower4 · 13/12/2019 17:36

If you'd give it to NHS workers, why don't you donate it to your local hospital or to a health-focused charity?

BuildBuildings · 13/12/2019 17:42

Lol what bonus? I work for a charity

managedmis · 13/12/2019 17:43

The taxman apparently

daisypond · 13/12/2019 17:44

I’ve never had a Christmas bonus. I’ve always worked in the private sector. They begrudge you every penny and will get rid of you at the first opportunity.

danmthatonestakentryanotheer · 13/12/2019 17:47

What is this bonus of which you speak? I work for a well known fashion company and have never received any bonus.

toodlethenoodle · 13/12/2019 17:51

I save mine. It slips into my account for all off 10 minutes and then its moved into savings and I forget I ever had it!

Best way to top up the savings account.

AmIthechristmasfairy · 13/12/2019 22:58

I've never had a bonus, but if I got £1000, I'd get the guttering cleaned and fix my car. If I had any left over, I'd spend it on gin.

I don't have a DH, to share his bonus with you all, but hey, I don't think it relevant

Yoohoo16 · 13/12/2019 22:59

Bonus? I wish.

MyNewBearTotoro · 13/12/2019 22:59

Im a teacher and don’t get a bonus, but if I did I would probably just add it to my savings account.

Swirlygirl · 13/12/2019 22:59

I’m waiting for ours so we can pay the car finance off.

hartof · 13/12/2019 23:01

I got a £25 voucher which I've used towards a new hair dryer

Wincher · 13/12/2019 23:03

We don't get annual bonuses (public sector) but this year I got a performance related bonus. So far I've bought two dresses in the Hobbs sales and donated £100 to a homelessness charity I support. Will hang onto the rest for now!

Dazedandconfused10 · 13/12/2019 23:10

I recently got one, it's gone 50/50 on mortgage over payment and savings

TalbotAMan · 13/12/2019 23:21

I don't get a Christmas bonus.

DW is on PIP. She gets the £10 Christmas bonus. The rate was set in 1971 and has never been increased. Somehow, I doubt she'll be spending it on anything big.

Scotmummy1216 · 13/12/2019 23:27

I dont get a bonus (nhs nurse here) but if i were you would save at least half then maybe keep rest for something you need in the sales. Sorry a bit boring but no point spending it unless you need something. You could always put towards holiday aswell.

BlouseAndSkirt · 13/12/2019 23:29

If you don’t have an immediate need, save it.

1vandal2 · 13/12/2019 23:30

Nothing. Don't get one in retail.

BackforGood · 13/12/2019 23:32

Like most, I don't get a bonus, but that isn't what you asked.

If you don't have a debt to pay off, and you don't have something you were hoping to spend it on, then save it.

Either long term (pay off a bit of mortgage or add to your pension) or in a "treats fund" so when something comes up that you do fancy, you'll have the money there. Don't think you have to go and specifically spend it on something now.
