2 weeks ago I felt dreadful for a day. The following day a bit snotty but felt alright.

Fast forward to friday and I could feel it coming on again. Tired and neck a but achy head a bit achy. Saturday i felt dreadful. Zero energy and couldn't breath through my nose. Yesterday, still zero energy but not as stuffed up. Today my nose wont stop running and I'm still bloody tired!

Normally I'm alright after a couple of days. This seems to have floored me

Got loads to do this week as well as its dd2 birthday weds and dhs thurs. Feeling very sorry for myself 😞

Anyone want to join the pitty party? 🤣

Oh yes, it's gone through our DC school, both DC have been struck down with it and now I've got it. You have my sympathy!!

MAFIL · 09/12/2019 14:46

Me! I've just started with it. My son has been ill since Friday and is off school and I started to feel ill last night. Today I feel like I have been hit by a bus.
Fortunately I am off work anyway as I am waiting for an operation. It would complete my misery if I got a call this week telling me that there had been a cancellation or something as I have been waiting for ages but I certainly wouldn't be fit for surgery at the moment!
The only small comfort is that I had been feeling guilty that because I am unable to drive til I have had my op I haven't taken my son for his flu vaccine. He has been sufficiently ill that I had been suspecting it was actually flu and feeling terribly guilty. Now that I've got it (and I have had my vaccine) it makes me feel a bit better as it obviously wouldn't have made a difference. Must get it done in the holidays though!
Hope you feel better soon. I need to drag my sorry self off the sofa and tidy the house as the fairies aren going to do it.Sad

Babymamamama · 09/12/2019 14:46

It's dreadful. And it drags on and on. I found sipping hot orange squash or hot water mixed with Manuka honey and lemon helped. None of the over the counter remedies were any good. Take it easy if you can. The body needs to fight it off.

Yes my ds has had it and now dd has it, it's awful, I hope I don't get it.

CallMeOnMyCell · 09/12/2019 14:49

Yep I’ve had it too for nearly 2 weeks now. Had a couple of days of feeling okay and it came back 10 times worse on Saturday! It’s such bad timing as have loads to do and zero energy.

MrsCharlesBrandon · 09/12/2019 14:51

DD2 has got it at the moment and it's absolutely floored her. Our house has been a plague pit since DN started Reception anyway, but this is something else!

lauryloo · 09/12/2019 14:54

yes, i am pregnant and its been 5 weeks. I am miserable with it :(

managedmis · 09/12/2019 14:55

I think I'm getting it

hannah1992 · 09/12/2019 14:56

Oh no. Poor you guys and your little ones.

It really is something else. I think its come from my mum. She was struck down last week.

Kids have been on form too. Sure they think right mums down let's run riot until dad gets home then act like theyve been saints all day!

Had it for 6 weeks in September /October and it turned into a secondary infection so then another 10 days of antibiotics. It truly has been one of nastiest colds of my entire life.

LadyLindaT · 09/12/2019 15:09

I feel like it's a virus that keeps roaming around, trying to find weak points to attack. So far, it's been throat, then ears, sore eyes, then sinuses, now chest. The worst part has been the inability to get any sleep, which is the gateway to insanity!

Echobelly · 09/12/2019 15:10

A lot of bad colds going round office - both kids seem to have had grotty cold with cough and DH has got it really badly. I've been sleeping in the spare room for nearly a week as he is still coughing heavily for the first hour of getting to sleep and then usually waking in the night; he also had a bad temperature, but it seems to be going now.

dementedma · 09/12/2019 15:15

Yup. Started last Wednesday. Been in bed since Friday. Two days off work is unheard off for me but this is horrible.

Nat6999 · 09/12/2019 15:27

I've had it, started with a cough & wheezing, was very short of breath, went to doctors & was told I needed an asthma review, first appointment I can get is 6th January, they wouldn't give me any inhalers without the asthma check. Was in bed for 9 days no energy, all I wanted to do was sleep, then last Thursaday my nose started running & the moment that happened my cough & wheeze disappeared, I have ached & had a temperature for most of the 9 days. I went out for the first time yesterday, only nipped to supermarket & to see my mum, felt like i had run a marathon. The only thing that gave me any relief was night nurse, I split 1 20ml dose in to 5 ml doses during the day & took 20ml at night plus ibuprofen every 6 hours.

Morgan12 · 09/12/2019 15:27

Yep. The four of us just keep passing it around.

CottonSock · 09/12/2019 15:28

I've just had a 3 week cold, with ear ache then almost total deafness. Not felt so unwell for years.

InTheBleakMidwinterIWouldSing · 09/12/2019 15:31

Oh you poor thing. It sounds like a few here have had what I had, it wasn’t actually the flu but I swear it was the worst cold I’ve ever had. I also ended up with a secondary infection that needed 2x antibiotics to shift. It was rubbish.

Have a big Flowers and look after yourself.

MAFIL · 09/12/2019 15:32

Oh and my DH is away on business all week.
Anyone care to join me in a small wager that I will struggle alone until the weekend then start to feel a tiny bit better just in time to see him stagger through the door on Friday night, sniff a couple of times then tell me he is dying and ho to bed all weekend.Xmas Angry It is just bound to happen isn't it?!
At least my kids are old enough to be largely self caring, even if they have to live on baked beans all week. I really feel for those of you with babies and toddlers. It really is crap being ill when you have little ones depending on you. Flowers

dreamerofdreams27 · 09/12/2019 15:37

We've had a range of symptoms - not sure if it's the same virus that's just manifesting itself as different symptoms in us all or whether we've all had something different. I've had a terrible chest, fever, no energy. Been sleeping during the day which I never do. Dc has had sickness, fever, headache and aches and pains as well as being super tired too.
It does seem to be dragging on and on and I just hope it fucks off for Christmas

NoCauseRebel · 09/12/2019 15:39

First defence is your friend. It’s a nasal spray that you use as soon as you come into contact with someone with a cold and it helps to prevent the virus. Equally when you’re full of it using first defence will prevent it from all coming out iyswim.

Obviously nothing is fail-safe but my mum uses it and swears by it. Similarly I’ve used it, and although I had the cough and bad chest, the cold was largely absent.

I personally have to be ultra careful as I had endocarditis and sepsis from the flu a few years ago and now have a serious heart condition and any cough/infection can go into my lungs. I also took honey, if taking manuka honey it’s best to take it on its own and leave at least half an hour before drinking any fluids.

Also, I have another nasal spray the name of which escapes me which you can spray up your nose and will clear sinuses/all the other crap out of your nose.

Most OTC medications as well as anything with eucalyptus in are contra-indicated with my heart meds so I have to resort to alternatives apart from paracetamol.

astralweaks · 09/12/2019 15:45

Ah. Been wondering why this is the cold that lasts for weeks, switches only and off and makes you feel drained. At least I know I am not alone.

astralweaks · 09/12/2019 15:46

switches on and off

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 09/12/2019 15:48

Me! 14 days ill now. Started with a sore throat like swallowing razor blades, quickly moved to no voice and a rattling cough and then middle of last week faceache, joint pain, earache and a belting headache that nothing shifts. Full of snot but not snuffly. Nauseous. It's making me stupid too - I just can't process information, at all. DS2 had it first, DD has it now, and I just can't shift it.

HelloViroids · 09/12/2019 16:03

And me - am v early in a risky pregnancy, no idea whether any nausea or dizziness is from cold or hormones, and too scared to take the usual lemsip/night nurse etc etc!

Schoolchoicesucks · 09/12/2019 16:13

Yep. 3 weeks in now and I feel human again, though still snotty and with the occasional cough. Such an improvement on the last few weeks though that I feel great in comparison!
The kids have mainly escaped it, dh had it badly affecting his ears, mine was the never-ending cough.
