Anyone made a (simple!) Hedwig cake before?

& would show me pics?

Dd2 has asked for a Hedwig cake for her 10th birthday. I've scrolled Pinterest but tbh most are a bit much to achieve between 26th/27th December, for her birthday on 28th.

I'll do the baking part over the course of this week, and freeze the cakes ready. I'm just not sure what to do about the owl bit Xmas Confused

I got some proper moulding icing (I can't remember the proper name for it) and made a hedwig. Then did a square cake as a book, with Harry Potter symbols on.

I'm not sure my skills are up to making a Hedwig Grin I did see a tutorial on Pinterest though, and do have some icing in the pantry I could have a go with so maybe I'll give it a whirl one night.

Sugar paste! That's what it's called. Also can get edible pens, used a black one to draw the black flecks onto hedwig.

Well that didn’t work 🙄

I have edible pens in the cupboard too!

This week's mission might be a small Hedwig then as well as everything else

What about this? If you can pipe it’s just piped randomly white, paste eyes which you could make a template for and then two piped eyebrows. I’d say it’s actually easy enough...

I’ve got a dd with a 27th December birthday, it’s tough sorting cake at that time of year.

@RJnomore1 it's a little bit of a pita (although preferable to her arriving on dd1's birthday, which was her due date!).

I'm not very good at piping, & not entirely sure how to make white buttercream but it looks simple enough! I'll google about the buttercream.
