Give your best board games please.

Hi all, I'm looking for a new board game for the family (kids are 5 and 7). I'd like something we can all play together. The kids like Guess Who, Carcassone (played without farm rule), Scotland Yard, Othello, Dobble, Monopoly (I cannot stand it though).

Looking for something to grow into a bit (no point buying a junior game that is boring in a year).

So what's your best games?

Try monopoly empire - it’s quick and simplified and quite evil!
Labyrinth is a good game as well

Ooh great thanks! We have Labyrinth and think it's great (good recommendation). I had forgotten about Cluedo, I may mooch for that in a charity shop.

All the rest I haven't heard of so will go off for a bit of a google. I like discovering new games, thanks very much.

Settlers of Catan or Ticket to Ride - both classics suitable for children but designed for everyone!

We all enjoy Quirkle, Blokus, Settlers of Catan, and when there's a few of us (at least 5) Telestrations is great fun

Not quite a board game, but Forest Dragon is good.

Ticket to Ride is great. We also like Rummikub, though that might depend a bit on your kids.

Do you have a board game cafe nearby? They're great for trying out games, and the staff are usually very knowledgeable and can offer advice.

Second Settlers of Catan

I personally think settlers and ticket to Ride would be a bit of a stretch for the 5 yo this year. Excellent games though. Agree Qwirkle is great for all ages.

Uno ? Skyjo - straightforward card game but enough to entertain adults too.

Board game cafe a good shout to try out games...or if you happen to be near Sheffield would happily walk you through several suggested on this thread!

Catan junior is brilliant for 6 + and before you know it they'll be Catan loving teens.

Smuggle is a family favourite. My parents have had it for years, but nobody else has ever heard of it!

Game of life has been a huge hit with 8yo Dts.

Takes a while but it's been a go to game for my DC for years

Carcassonne is my go to for family! My just turned 3yo loves an adapted version of Camel Cup. Quirkle is a good one for kids (DH and I hate it but DD loves it). Catan is great, can be adapted if needed. Rummikub is fun and good number practice. Not so much a board game but rorys story cubes are great fun for imaginative kids.
