Mumsnet returner. Haven't been around for 6/7 years but I'm really struggling at the moment. Could do with support and somewhere to chat. Anyone care to join me?

Can I join?

Long term sufferer here. I've noticed my anxiety about it is getting worse recently Sad

Luckoftheirish · 06/12/2019 16:45

Can I join? I have been living with this fear for so many years. The bug is rife around here and I am constantly checking the dcs to see how they are feeling, worrying if they are suddenly not eating. I'm so anxious and nervous, want to bury my head in the sand

Cloverbeauty · 06/12/2019 17:34

I have this phobia too and don't even have kids. Blush I avoid sick people like the plague. Annoyingly my anxiety can get so bad that if someone even says that they feel sick, I instantly start feeling sick. It's so annoying dunno how it got so bad.

LostStars39 · 06/12/2019 17:48

Cloverbeauty I’m exactly the same, no kids but just the word sick puts me on edge! Was at a train station today bursting for a wee, in a massive queue for the toilet, I heard someone being sick in a cubicle and just had to run out and pray I didn’t wet myself. It’s just a constant struggle

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/12/2019 07:43

Another long term sufferer PP

Triggers OCD in me(sadly not clean spotless home but endless cleaning certain things, fret DC wash hands properly etc)
This time of year I struggle to go into busy shops, basically anywhere that's not wide open spaces!!
The trouble with treatment is CBT demands that you KEEP PRACTISING at least every few days or the new habits don't stick

SubordinateThatClause · 07/12/2019 07:52

Morning all. What are your plans for the weekend! I'm going out for dinner tonight - anxiety is building already! :(

I'm in Northern Ireland where 10 schools had to close for deep cleans due to the outbreak, one school of 1600 had 50% of pupils call in sick in one week, it's freaking the life out of me. Thankfully none of them were my sons school but still, it's all you read on local news sites. I'm so anxious all the fucking time, it's draining my physical and mental energy. Fed up of suffering from this since I was in primary school and now in my 30's.

Emetophobe · 07/12/2019 08:53

I am the same with OCD. Sadly it doesn’t extend to tidying (I am a messy person) and certain things I’m not bothered about cleaning, but at this time of year especially I get obsessed with cleaning certain things - the floor in the living room (it’s laminate and the outside door opens straight into this room so I worry about what is brought in on shoes), DCs uniforms get boil washed after every wear, make DC shower straight after school, constantly wiping the keyboards etc at work with wipes that work on norovirus, terrified to eat anything without a knife and fork in case I haven’t washed my hands well enough, worried about eating out or having a takeaway because the likelihood is that people don’t stay off work long enough when they’ve had norovirus so could be transmitting it in the food. It is exhausting.

JJSS123 · 07/12/2019 11:51

Same about eating out. It’s awful still waiting for my sterizar to come 😩😩

WellErrr · 07/12/2019 11:55

My sterizar wipes are supposed to be arriving today. Hopefully it will calm the anxiety around door handles etc!

Pumpkinpie66 · 07/12/2019 16:30

Sterizar wipes? How have I not heard of these? I'm a teacher with emetophobia. Where can I get some before Monday? I need something to get me through the next fortnight of school!

FairyOnTheTree · 07/12/2019 17:02

You can order sterizar on Amazon, I have never seen it in the shops (that's not to say you can't get it in shops though).

The sterizar hand foam is amazing but I must admit I have forced myself to ditch the lot as I have found that constantly trying to control things by dousing myself in sterizar actually adds fuel to the phobia fire! I get even more obsessive and it's not good. I wash my hands well with soap and water before eating and when I come into the house (and after going to the toilet, obvs) and try to leave it at that.

SubordinateThatClause · 09/12/2019 16:23

Sitting in pharmacy waiting for flu jab. Has anyone had side effects this year? Feeling really wobbly...

OP posts:
JJSS123 · 09/12/2019 18:08

I’ve had mine pp and I’ve been fine, felt fine after just a sore arm which is always made worse because of my fibro. But fine. My
Sterizar came today yayyyy x

SubordinateThatClause · 09/12/2019 19:32

Yay! Love sterizar! My arm feel quite achy already but crossing everything that'll be all!

Anyone else suffer from health anxiety as well as emetophobia at the same time? Often linked. I do, it's very difficult.

Luckoftheirish · 12/12/2019 07:38

My dd just told me that one of her closest friends has norovirus so I'm on high alert. Feel so panicky and stressed, just want to hid away

SubordinateThatClause · 18/12/2019 07:51

How are you all? On edge here... last full day of term for dc 1 (aged15) and noro has hit the school. Little one is unwell with a temperature/ cough thing so not in school anyway. Just hate this.

OP posts:
Nogodsnomasters · 18/12/2019 08:09

Not great, ds5 has 2 n half days left of school term and a mother of one of his classmates posted that her son wasn't well yesterday but hopes to return to school today, doesn't say what he's got but of course my mind jumps to noro. I know of 2 others in his class who've had it in the last month. And a woman in my work has had it, caught off her grandchildren.

Katyy · 18/12/2019 16:48

Terrified here too, I was visiting a friend when someone else turned up, sat next to me then 30 minutes later said he woke yesterday morning had to rush to be sick, oh my god can’t tell you how quick I made my excuses and left, why are people so stupid my friend is elderly too which makes it worse. He said he was fine by the evening and now eating normally, it doesn’t sound like Noro as I understand it, nevertheless I won’t be eating much for the next three days !

FeatherySquawkington · 18/12/2019 16:59

Another one on the same boat but I'm on the dreaded 'vomit watch'. 5yo was sick twice on Monday evening and once yesterday morning. He is on the road to recovery now but I'm terrified that me, DH and 10yo DS are all incubating it. It's going to ruin Christmas, I know it. I feel so down and anxious, I feel so bad for my poor family.

FeatherySquawkington · 18/12/2019 17:26

Oh, and I always have these in the cupboard - www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00BKX0RSQ?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Katyy · 18/12/2019 17:39

I ordered two sterizar had foam from amazon , opened the first one , used it, put in my handbag within 10 minutes the whole lot had emptied inside my bag, the 2nd one did the same thing ,so disappointed, I’ve complained and they have refunded me.Anybody else had this problem? I need something to use when out and about, especially in restaurants I use it to clean the cutlery .

Sherloidbaisherloid · 18/12/2019 17:50

I’m really struggling today. This whole week actually has been so bad. My child told me today one of his classmates is off because he was sick last night, there is one in my other child’s nursery class off too. I’m so scared, I know it’s so irrational but honestly I am a nervous wreck and can’t sleep at night. I got the sterizar too and have been cleaning my kids hands with the foam before school. And obviously scrub when they get home. They have 2 days left of term and I am tempted to keep them off on Friday. I would keep them off tomorrow but one has their xmas party. I feel like I can’t cope right now, I’m a rubbish mum, just not cut out for this. I was never like this until I had kids. I don’t even know what triggered this fear in me. Sorry for rambling, it’s just taking over my life right now. It’s all I can think about

newbingepisodes · 18/12/2019 17:58

Another sufferer here but I always try to put it in perspective that only about 1-2% of people nationally get norovirus that's 98-99% of the population that don't. It's hard with it always in the news though it's like triggering all the time. I feel like I can never really enjoy going out or anything in case of "germs" at this time of year. Although I'm a million % better than I used to be!
