Christmas dinner solo - what would you have?

If you had only yourself to please, and no witnesses, what would be your ideal Christmas dinner?
I rather used to admire a woman who worked on the principle of a couple of boiled eggs and a bottle of gin (she did have other options for the day: it was choice).

Hypothetical thread - I'm not asking for advice as will not be alone, although I would be happy to be so.

Lots of cheese, and maybe some pigs in blankets. Followed by Yule log.

Cheese and wine. Although egg and gin does sound good.

iklboo · 30/11/2019 21:04

Loads of nice bread, cheeses, meats, posh crisps. Very nice bottle of red wine, maybe some gin later.

Darklane · 30/11/2019 21:05

Something easy, no cooking. A tin of red salmon or some prawns with salad & a good bottle of something cold, white & fizzy.

ysmaem · 30/11/2019 21:06

Cheese, crackers, chutney, cold meats.

Redcherries · 30/11/2019 21:07

Wine, filet, dauphinois potatoes and asparagus. ❤️ If no one would be there for the crohns reaction, bearnaise sauce!

LensGlans · 30/11/2019 21:09

Before I met DH I always spent Christmas alone and just treated it as any other day, so whatever there was in the fridge/freezer.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 30/11/2019 21:09

Breakfast of smoked salmon on cream cheese bagels. Glass of fizz.

Lunch would be pigs in blankets, cheese board, deli meats and more fizz.

ParkheadParadise · 30/11/2019 21:09

Hamburger and chips.
Chocolate fudge cake.
A bottle of whisky on the go all day.
A selection of M&S crisps and Percy Pigs.

midsomermurderess · 30/11/2019 21:11

A traditional Christmas dinner. Turkey, sprouts, bread sauce etc. Haven't had one of those in years.

Kilpitlees · 30/11/2019 21:13

Cheese board, calamari with a really nice cremant ... followed up by a pudding of pick and mix 😁

MollyBloomYes · 30/11/2019 21:14

I'm actually doing this this year! Kids are at their dads, just moved into house of our own after years and years with family thought I'd hunker down and please nobody but myself for the day (I do have a contingency plan if it turns out this is a shit idea!)

I'm planning on going nuts on posh ready type meals-thinking Marks and Sparks stuff where you just pop the foil trays in the oven. This is mainly because I hate cooking. Thinking maybe duck, definitely loads of roast potatoes and then lots of buffet type stuff because I bloody love tiny snacky food I can graze on. I don't really drink except with other people so probably some nice tasting fizzy stuff. I have a weakness for Shloer because I'm still 8 years old. Some sort of crumble with custard and ice cream. Or banana custard (again...8 years old)

I'm doing 'proper' Christmas dinner the following week with family when I get the kids back. They'll probably have a Yorkshire pudding and a cheese and tomato pizza so they'll stay at the dinner table

Pomegranatepompom · 30/11/2019 21:15

Cheese and biscuits, sea food, good quality yule log, champagne.

Kilpitlees · 30/11/2019 21:15

Oh ... and def pigs in blankets

Bickles · 30/11/2019 21:16

Seafood platter and sparkling wine.

anothernamejeeves · 30/11/2019 21:17

Salami saucisson sec Stilton Brie crusty bread Irish butter and loads of cider

PurpleDaisies · 30/11/2019 21:18

Onion tart tatin with some sort of veggies. Probably root veg mash and tender stem broccoli, plus homemade cranberry sauce and gravy.

Then a vegan magnum for pudding.

Salene · 30/11/2019 21:19

I've done Xmas alone before , I just ordered a Chinese takeaway as it was open

twilightcafe · 30/11/2019 21:21

Seafood platter and a chilled Chablis.

RoseMartha · 30/11/2019 21:25

Good sliced ham and salad. Followed by Christmas pudding and clotted cream.
Cant drink so would go for something like raspberry lemonade.

Tea time would have marmite on toast and some cheese and biscuits and grapes. Then I would eat the end of the yule log because I usually miss out on that and only get a middle bit. And a cup of tea.

Outsomnia · 30/11/2019 21:25

I reckon you would just do what you want. Get the vittles in and grog if that's your thing, and hole up.

Would be heaven for most although it ain't admitted. LOL

We have to be all gung ho and full of the Christmas Cheer you see, whether we enjoy it or not.

Enjoy my love.

EvaHarknessRose · 30/11/2019 21:26

Stilton, brie, cranberry sauce and a toblerone

Rosere · 30/11/2019 21:28

The entire melty camenbert affair that M&S are advertising. It and a demi baguette as a spoon. While watching TV 😂

And some mini vienettas.
