So DS is going to a party/hang out at a friends tonight. The friend is a girl wgo is part of his social circle...parents there and it's from 7pm and they said everyone to go home by -11.30pm. He has asked if can take a pizza, some capri suns AND 2 cans of dark fruits.

I was surprised. He has told me he has tried the cider before and doesnt really like it so I said well why then. He said he doesnt mind one.

I know alot of my friebds ler their kids dtonk the odd one at parties, in the summer. He is a sensible boy and does a competitative sport so know he wouldnt be stupid.

Just wanted to know a few peoples views.

Ask his friend's parents if they are happy about the idea.

Lllot5 · 30/11/2019 18:16

Well firstly be glad he asked you not just got it any way.
I think he’s a bit young tbh. Do you know the parents? Can you join forces and say only one per person perhaps?

Soontobe60 · 30/11/2019 18:17

No, not in a million years. And if my teens were having friends round and they brought alcohol I'd take it off them at the door and return it as they left.
Condoning drinking alcohol at such a young age is irresponsible.

Dark fruits gets me seriously drunk, partly as it is so easy to drink. I wouldn't do it personally, at 15.

Savingforarainyday · 30/11/2019 18:17

At 14, no

hopelesssuitcase · 30/11/2019 18:17

Just saw he's actually 14! No, no way

zonkin · 30/11/2019 18:18

No I wouldn't

emmetgirl · 30/11/2019 18:18

No.

DonPablo · 30/11/2019 18:18

I bought my ds a six pack of shandy to take to a party. He's the same age.

DonPablo · 30/11/2019 18:19

It's something like 0.5%

Overseasmom100 · 30/11/2019 18:19

15 in 2 weeks.
But yes my thoughts especially as he said he doesnt really like it. Im wondering if it's more for show which isnt right I dont think

Nope.

LolaSmiles · 30/11/2019 18:24

Supervised by parents then I probably would. I'd also check the parents are there and they are happy with the arrangement though.

We were allowed one or two alcoholic drinks under the supervision of parents when we were in y10/11 (albeit the end of y10). Nobody got drunk, no harm was done and we didn't turn into raging binge drinkers or people who would neck spirits etc.

I find ideas of risk on here to be bizarre at times. 14/15 year olds having a supervised alcoholic beverage with parental company is somehow the height of irresponsibility, but giving your 12/13/14 year old a smart phone, allowing unrestricted internet access and their phones with them 24/7 is absolutely reasonable. It doesn't make sense to me.

Trewser · 30/11/2019 18:26

No.

Its 4.0 alcohol, not 0.5

Trewser · 30/11/2019 18:27

If my dd was going to a friends house at 14 I would be cross if some lad turned up with booze.

TheCanterburyWhales · 30/11/2019 18:28

No

BackforGood · 30/11/2019 18:31

No

Nor would I be happy if a friend turned up to my house with alcohol at 14. I would take it off them.

iamabox · 30/11/2019 18:33

No absolutely not.

GrannyBags · 30/11/2019 18:34

I’d say no. If the host parents allow alcohol then that’s up to them but I would not and would not be happy if some child turned up with a few cans.
My step children were all allowed alcohol with us from that age but at the table as part of a meal.

Overseasmom100 · 30/11/2019 18:34

The parents are ok with it apparently but its no more than 2 and no spirits or anything else they have said. Ive said no and it's something we will discuss tomorrow. He's accepted that.

@Trewser, not the one I bought!

Trewser · 30/11/2019 18:36

DonPablo

0.5 would make it the alcohol free version

HairyFloppins · 30/11/2019 18:38

No.

Fairylea · 30/11/2019 18:40

Not a chance in hell.

ysmaem · 30/11/2019 18:40

Not at 15 years of age. But kudos to your son for asking you!
