Do you buy your kids new Xmas jumpers every year?

Yes I do, but only because they bloody grow so quickly and one doesn’t last more than a year.

I sell the old ones on Facebook and then use the money to buy another one.

Greenbutterlfy566 · 28/11/2019 10:53

So they don’t look the same as last year in photos? Blush

I do, Purely because DS is 3 and so doesn't fit into last years.

At the moment yes, because they are little and grow out of them in a year (although the youngest wears the eldest's old ones as they are like new).

Once they're older and not growing out of everything at a rate of knots then I absolutely will not, what an utter waste of money!

Mine also go to the local baby/family bank once youngest has grown out of them so they'll be put to good use by someone else too.

Cookit · 28/11/2019 11:07

Well, they are or will be handed down between siblings anyway and I usually buy second hand (because I feel bad about the waste) but this year will be a re-wear of second hand as last year’s were a little big. I’ve bought new pyjamas because there is a wear Christmas pyjama event we are going to. I wouldn’t have bought otherwise.
My Christmas jumper has been worn every year for 8 years and going strong!

Whattodoabout · 28/11/2019 11:11

No, they generally last a couple of years and pass down to siblings sometimes too.

SecondTimeCharm · 28/11/2019 11:11

I’ve never bought either a Christmas jumper, although when dd1 was born we were gifted one so dd2 will most likely wear it again this year.

If i did buy one and it still fit the next year I would absolutely re-use it, given the state of the planet! I really don’t like to contribute to fast fashion or to encourage constant buying of new clothes.

Anoisagusaris · 28/11/2019 11:12

No! Keep them until they don’t fit and then passed down to a sibling if possible.

drspouse · 28/11/2019 11:12

I don't buy them at all but we do buy long sleeved t-shirts. If last year's fits or DS' fits DD I don't buy a new one.

wendz86 · 28/11/2019 12:06

I have managed to make a couple last a couple of years, get passed on to little sister too.

HairyToity · 28/11/2019 12:08

No. I have my sister in laws second hands!

daisypond · 28/11/2019 12:08

Never bought any Christmas jumpers. What photos are you talking about?

Exp1etiveDeLighted · 28/11/2019 12:09

No, buy big and get 2 or 3 years out of them. Choose ones they will wear regularly not just for school Christmas jumper day.

Southmouth · 28/11/2019 12:10

I do but only because both mine our young and last years jumpers wouldn’t of fit them. But not necessarily brand new, just new to us

EmpressJewel · 28/11/2019 12:11

I try and buy a couple of sizes bigger so that they case wear them for 2 xmases if possible.

Cineraria · 28/11/2019 12:27

No, I like a lot of wear out of the children's clothes,
so I tend to buy two year sized ones, like age 2-4 or 4-6 and the younger one gets his brother's the following year, so they last us four years and then go to a charity that provides clothing and other children's items to people in difficult circumstances. I prefer ones that are more wintery than specifically Christmas themed, e.g. snowman, so they can be worn anytime but MiL usually gets them for us, so I let her pick.

One year MiL gave us some Christmas pyjamas that had a really nice top so the older one wore the top as a Christmas jumper beforehand and then the pyjamas throughout the rest of the year. The younger has it this year and it's still nice.

Pilot12 · 28/11/2019 12:37

My oldest gets a new one if last years no longer fits. My younger son will wear the jumpers his brother has grown out of. DP and I have several Christmas jumpers each so no need to buy anymore for us for many years.

ShiningTor · 28/11/2019 12:59

I've never bought one, didn't know I was supposed to!

TowerRingInferno · 28/11/2019 13:01

No, mine refuse to wear them

Millie2013 · 28/11/2019 13:04

I like DD to get a couple of years out of hers, then they’re passed on to my friend, who has two younger daughters
This year, DD’s school is having a second hand Xmas jumper sale, proceeds to the PTA, which I think is a great idea

theneverendinglaundry · 28/11/2019 13:07

No, I don't buy them at all. I'd rather spend money on something that can be worn for more than a few weeks.

Stravapalava · 28/11/2019 14:30

Only if last year's don't fit!

I've never bought my youngest a christmas jumper - she wears her sister's old ones! Grin

Fatted · 28/11/2019 16:21

I've ended up buying new most years. I do say I will keep the eldest's for the youngest to wear but by the next year it's been packed away where I can't find it and youngest sees another one he likes anyway.

I probably sound terribly wasteful but for the sake of a tenner from Asda, I'm happy to buy new each year. I don't care about photos. Usually my two wear theirs every day in December!

Bluewavescrashing · 28/11/2019 16:23

I only get new ones if the old ones are outgrown. I buy from Facebook marketplace in my village. Outgrown jumpers go to friends or charity shop. They only have one jumper each.

IsAStormApproaching · 28/11/2019 16:25

Yes my dc have new ones each year but I buy them in the January sales a year in advanced Blush
