What do you do when you listen to audiobooks?

Stupid question but what do you do when you listen to audiobooks. They really appeal to me as I'm crap at reading these days - read two pages before I fall asleep in bed, takes me months to read a single book. Thought an audiobook with an fun narrator might engage me a bit more but what do you do when its on? I imagine myself sitting staring at the wall as anything I'd do would distract me from listening to the story but that sounds bloody tedious. I'm not good at relaxing and doing nothing so fear I might fall at the first hurdle Grin Any tips appreciated!

Driving or cooking, if I sit and listen I fall asleep it has the same affect as reading on me 😂

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 26/11/2019 19:48

Bathe.
Housework.

Driving or walking the dog.

I listen to them when I'm driving/running/walking/cooking/cleaning

WhereforeArtThouManatee · 26/11/2019 19:51

Walk. Knit. Sort laundry. Drive / commute.

I love audiobooks, have an audible subscription.

Needsomezzzz · 26/11/2019 19:51

Same as above, but never in bed because I fall asleep and loose where I am!
I always listen to a free sample to make sure I like the voice that's reading the book.
It's a bit addictive! Thank goodness for Audible!

percheron67 · 26/11/2019 19:51

Housework. In bed at night. The only trouble with that is that I have to play the same disc in the morning because I fall asleep whilst listening!

museumum · 26/11/2019 19:53

Walk. Or travel by bus.

AliceLittle · 26/11/2019 19:55

Walking, driving, at the gym, cooking, cleaning, when doing the dishes.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 26/11/2019 19:56

I sew or sometimes make jigsaws. I have to be doing something while I’m listening or else I get bored. I don’t get bored reading a book because it’s a lot faster to read than to listen.

thedevilinablackdress · 26/11/2019 19:57

Walk to work.
Run.

BloodyCats · 26/11/2019 19:58

Anytime I don’t have to engage in conversation I have a podcast/audio book on.
I particularly love them at the gym as it helps beat the boredom of a treadmill.

Mishfit0819 · 26/11/2019 19:59

Driving /walking the dog/ housework /weekly shop and at the moment, the morning feed (breastfeed).

Podcasts are also great as they are more bitesize, I get annoyed if I get to a good bit in the book and my journey is over! Can't listen to comedy ones when out in public though, or you look like a nutter laughing to yourself!Grin

BarkandCheese · 26/11/2019 20:01

Sew, cook or do housework. I can't listen to them in the car I find them too distracting and I can't listen to them in bed as I fall asleep and miss huge chunks.

HappyDinosaur · 26/11/2019 20:01

Drive, cook, bath, tidy, clean, doze (!), walk, eat lunch, garden...

SomewhereInbetween1 · 26/11/2019 20:04

Sleeping or colouring

MsAwesomeDragon · 26/11/2019 20:04

I listen as I'm driving, or walking. Sometimes I listen as I'm playing games on my phone, or cooking. I'm always doing something that takes my hands and eyes so I can't read, but doesn't take all of my attention so I can still listen to the story.

I do love audio books, I have the library borrow box app, as well as an audible subscription (because the library doesn't always have books I fancy)

Leedsmom · 26/11/2019 20:10

Walking, running, housework, cooking, having a bath, driving, going to sleep...

Pretty much any time I’m not working or with other people! I’m listening to The Testaments at the moment and keep finding ways to sneak an extra 10 minutes in as it’s so good!

astralweaks · 26/11/2019 20:26

Great while driving.

Foghead · 26/11/2019 20:35

Chores.
There are lots free on YouTube And the library, if you’re a member.

TheClitterati · 26/11/2019 21:01

Train, gardening, housework, cooking, walking, jogging, gym.

wanderings · 27/11/2019 08:04

I'm easily distracted by things around me and my mind drifts when listening to audiobooks, the radio, even watching TV. If it's something I really want to listen to, I wear a sleep mask to listen, so I can't see distractions around me.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 27/11/2019 08:17

I have audible playing books while I'm working in my glass studio or packing orders, sometimes while cooking dinner! Anytime I've a lot to do.

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 27/11/2019 08:41

Driving
Walking
Running
Cleaning

I never listen when tired... I'll miss it!
