Does anybody make themselves a really lovely breakfast very regularly?

I love breakfast, it's my favourite meal to eat out, but rarely do I really treat myself or buy nice stuff to treat myself at home. A lady I work with cooks herself something different for breakfast every day- all her favourites - where I rush to work and eat a bowl of cereal at my desk or a cereal bar or peanut butter sandwich. Does anyone on here really make an effort for their breakfast? I'm not talking about being speedy or easy necessarily- was inspired by another thread about self care- as this lady at work sees it as a way of looking after herself

Most Saturdays I will plan a nice breakfast in my Asda shop or we will go out for brunch, nothing fancy just different to the usual day to day.

We like

  • Sausage/bacon and egg on rolls
  • Bacon avocado and fried egg sandwich
  • Pastries and coffee
  • Eggy bread or Crumpets
  • Anything egg actually
  • homemade American Pancakes, maple syrup and bacon if it's someone's birthday

We have boiled eggs most mornings if not bacon and eggs.

Sometimes porridge with honey too. Sets you up for a cold day.

Branleuse · 26/11/2019 13:04

yes, I love a cooked breakfast and quite often do myself a mini one. Do myself a veggie sausage, fried tomato and an egg on a nice bit of sourdough if ive got some. I really enjoy it

I often make a mushroom and spinach omelette during the week. At the weekend I’ll add a couple of sausages from the butcher, on the side.

Tableclothing · 26/11/2019 13:11

It probably depends what you mean by lovely... I make porridge (with milk) that I sweeten with honey and add a couple of squares of dark chocolate to, then top with a crunchy seed mix. It's basically a high fibre melted Toblerone Blush

It only takes a couple of minutes in the microwave.

pallisers · 26/11/2019 13:13

We have greek yogurt, granola, honey and berries a lot. It takes no time at all and is lovely.

JumpiestBat · 26/11/2019 13:14

Sometimes at the weekend I make bagels with scrambled egg and smoked salmon and me my partner and the kids have it off trays in bed. Grin

jessicama · 26/11/2019 13:14

We have porridge pretty much every day - but add lots of different toppings - fruit, nuts, seeds, honey, cocoa nibs, coconut (not all at the same time!). And I like using different types of milk - including chocolate milk!

At the weekend we often have a breakfast type foods for both breakfast and lunch - e.g. porridge first thing, then eggs/avocado/toast for lunch... and then often follow it up with an afternoon pastry too

I love breakfast!

jessicama · 26/11/2019 13:15

Oh and in summer - overnight oats (so essentially cold porridge Grin)

LividLaughLove · 26/11/2019 13:15

I don't know why any human would CHOOSE to eat cereal daily.

YogaLite · 26/11/2019 13:16

Omelette with various fillings most days with olives and avocado on the side.

hanahsaunt · 26/11/2019 13:17

My every day breakfast is a bowl of:

80g mixed berries (frozen and warmed through in the microwave)
One pear chopped up
1 dessert spoon mixed seeds
1 dessert spoon flaked almonds (or other nut)
1 tablespoon natural yogurt

All mixed together (measurements are approx) followed by one slice of wholemeal or brown multigrain toast with butter or crunchy peanut butter (Whole Earth) and sometimes homemade jam / local honey.

I love breakfast ...

You've clearly never tried the banana mini Weetabix. You don't know what you're missing.

bgegmum · 26/11/2019 13:17

I'm currently trying to lose weight so fry ups are off my list just now. However if I have time I'll make beans on toast Sunday we had peaches eggs on toast, I make porridge regularly kids would rather that than anything else. The days they have toast or cereal I'll have yogurt granola and fruit or make overnight oats the night before. Very rarely do I miss breakfast since dieting mainly because I notice how hungry I am at 10am normally I'd have a breakfast biscuit around that time as a snack but if I've not had my breakfast I'll eat loads

crochetmonkey74 · 26/11/2019 13:18

ooh some lovely ideas here

My favourite is good sourdough with peanut butter or marmite and a good coffee- although there's a good place in my town that does eggy crumpets with crispy chicken, bacon halloumi and maple jam

Omelettes most days, often with roasted veg leftovers in it if we've had that the night before.

At the weekends we'll often have beans, bacon and black pudding - and sometimes in the week.

Really nice fruit, nuts and proper greek yoghurt.

Poached eggs with asparagus or spinach or mushroom on toast.

If we've had something tomato based the night before and there's some leftovers then an egg baked in that in the oven while I get dressed.

FortunaMajor · 26/11/2019 13:20

I make poached eggs on toast with cherry tomatoes most week days. It literally takes 5 minutes to make.

bloodywhitecat · 26/11/2019 13:26

We keep chickens so most of our breakfasts include poached egg, scrambled egg or dippy eggs and soldiers these days.

Kanga83 · 26/11/2019 13:27

Depends what you mean by lovely breakfast. I make mine the night before and it's gorgeous. Oats in almond milk, cocoa powder and a little maple syrup. In the morning I add sliced banana and nuts. It's my favourite breakfast.

SoxiFodoujUmed · 26/11/2019 13:34

I put effort into breakfast. There's no point wasting the calories by just sucking in fuel you don't enjoy, so I can't be bothered with boring cereal.

My favourite is potato pancakes with avocado and cheese. Very easy, takes 10 mins to prep. - grate a potato, add a spoon of flour, some salt and pepper, and a bit of spice if you wish (I like to use a bit of sumaq but all sorts of things would work) then beat in an egg. Fry by the flattened-spoonful in a little oil until crispy and brown. When done, allow to cool a little. Cube half an avocado and some bits of a mild cheese and mix these together with some lime juice and a dash of olive oil. Spoon over the warm pancakes.

My kids are old enough to get themselves ready for school and lazy enough that the process takes ages. I might as well keep myself amused with a bit of a nice breakfast while I intermittently yell up the stairs a steadily reducing number of minutes available before they need to leave.

graziemille567 · 26/11/2019 13:35

I've recently learned how to poach eggs properly ( works most of the time anyway!) so on a morning where I don't have to rush I usually mash up an avocado, spread on toast and then poach an egg to go on top of it. Other times I might make myself a ham and cheese omelette or Mexican scrambled eggs. But weekday mornings it's usually cereal or fruit and yoghurt.

GinaCarbonara · 26/11/2019 13:39

I batch cook a load of roasted vegetables at the weekend and then often will reheat them in a pan, make a little nest and crack an egg on top. Cover it to it steams a little and it's delicious!

ParkheadParadise · 26/11/2019 13:40

Once a week I meet up with my sister for breakfast, the full works it's lovely.
Most day's I have toast and banana.
On a Sunday we always have a full Scottish breakfast.

Lipperfromchipper · 26/11/2019 13:46

I make my dc and I either
porridge with berries and honey
French toast with cinnamon and strawberries
Fried egg and toast
Or Omelette
And smoothies before school.
Saturday I make poached eggs and bacon...my fave!!

Gemma2019 · 26/11/2019 13:50

Most days I have mashed avocado with sliced tomato and chia seeds on sourdough toast. Or I do different types of overnight oats. The kids have poached egg or beans on toast, or toasted protein bagels with cheese. I like to do a nice breakfast and if I start the day with protein I don't get hungry so quickly.
