Does anybody make themselves a really lovely breakfast very regularly?

I love breakfast, it's my favourite meal to eat out, but rarely do I really treat myself or buy nice stuff to treat myself at home. A lady I work with cooks herself something different for breakfast every day- all her favourites - where I rush to work and eat a bowl of cereal at my desk or a cereal bar or peanut butter sandwich. Does anyone on here really make an effort for their breakfast? I'm not talking about being speedy or easy necessarily- was inspired by another thread about self care- as this lady at work sees it as a way of looking after herself

I tend to have a cooked breakfast of some sort every day. It can be as simple as black pudding, fried egg and toasted english muffins, or as fancy as a full cooked.
The proviso on all of this is I have breakfast after I've looked after my four horses of a morning, so it tends to be more of a brunch really.
But I also vary it, scrambled eggs with smoked salmon or prosciutto is another favourite. The local farm shop also does excellent bacon and gammon steaks, so sometimes if it's been a very busy morning I'll have a small bit of gammon instead of bacon or sausages.

As PP said I have Greek yoghurt and frozen summer berries during the week, at weekend a cooked breakfast at home or very occasionally I will go out for it.

Marmite on toast is also very acceptable.

Fizzypoo · 26/11/2019 19:58

Dp cooks a full english most sundays. I prefer smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel. I usually end up with slightly stale toast.

Half a toasted bagel with smashed avocado, cold roasted peppers (either cooked in advance or from a jar) plus a poached egg is my current fave.

Ticklemeelmo · 26/11/2019 20:10

In the week I usually eat any of the following

mixed berries/ cherries or raspberries with Greek yogurt
Porridge with honey with banana
Mini pancakes with different toppings

At weekends we do poached eggs on toast with bacon or smoked salmon, spinach, tomatoes and Hollandaise

IceniSky · 26/11/2019 20:15

Sunday morning is a poached egg on a bagel, with a salsa from cherry tomatoes, red onion, corriander, lime and white wine vinegar, and then half sliced avocado.

Weekdays I'll skip it or have hard boiler eggs sliced with cucumber and radish.

My favourite is dark rye bread but cant find it very often.

To concur with others, breakfast should be a joy. Every day when I get to work I make myself avocado on bagel with salt, pepper, lemon and chilli.

On weekends sometimes i think f*ck it and have dinner for breakfast (although often accompanied by a hangover). I was cooking tomato and mozzarella pasta at 10am last Saturday and it was glorious. It set me right up for gym in the afternoon!

I always have a full English if staying at a premier inn or something but never at home, it seems like too much of a calorie blow out - but I guess it isn't it you treat it as your main meal, which they say you shou ld. I still prefer a big meal in the evening. Also I find bacon and eggs leaves me feeling like my mouth is a rubbish tip after, I always have to clean my teeth!

Veronicat · 26/11/2019 21:18

Coconut and honey kefir stirred into frozen berries and oats and left overnight. Absolutely delicious.
Then at the weekend a full Scottish.

Newbie1981 · 26/11/2019 21:27

I have eggs most days. Love them! Veggie sausage or salmon on my working from home days.
Sometimes accidentally order macdonalds breakfast too. On a hangover

Newbie1981 · 26/11/2019 21:31

I bloody love breakfast. This thread is mega

Bouledeneige · 26/11/2019 21:48

No. I'm not a morning eater but on Saturdays/sundays I will make my DS waffles, pancakes, or bacon sarnies and have a bit myself.

SamBeckett · 26/11/2019 21:55

@getyourgrooveback you make yourself a what now ? shakshuka , whats one of them ?

I like porridge every now and then but I really can not get my head around the concept of cold porridge , esp straight out of the fridge.
I have hot porridge on cold mornings or sometimes when I have been on a late shift and come home cold but am to tired to cook.
Each to their own I guess . Smile

getyourgrooveback · 26/11/2019 21:59

Grin spiced tomatoes, onions and peppers with eggs cracked in DEEEELISH
With some crusty bread. Yesss!

My other fave is Boxing Day bubble ans squeak with a fried egg and beans

Westfacing · 26/11/2019 22:11

I have a lovely cooked breakfast EVERY day, usually involving eggs e.g.

Shakshuka (batch cook the sauce then just add the eggs)
Eggs fried in olive oil atop baked beans, sprinkling of anchovies
Smoked salmon & scrambled egg
Eggs, tomatoes & avocado
Previously slow-roasted baby plum tomatoes (make a batch of them) & fried eggs

I sometimes replace the eggs with Dragonfly marinated tofu (treat as Halloumi)

All served with a double espresso with hot milk. Best meal of the day!

Swisskit · 26/11/2019 23:55

Weekends are for naice breakfasts. Particularly bacon naans with chilli jam.

I have buttery scrambled eggs with smoked salmon most mornings. Occasionally soft boiled eggs with asparagus soldiers.

MrsFrisbyMouse · 27/11/2019 10:25

I really enjoy breakfast.
I've just finished porridge made with hazelnut milk, topped with dark cherries (frozen, but then heated in a pan with 1/2 tsp demerara sugar) a few chocolate chips and some toasted hazelnuts. Kind of a retro black forest combo.

Lots avocado featured here. I find supermarket avocados so unreliable! Either they never go soft and just go brown, or miss the 5 mins they’re OK and they suddenly go bad. I read that keeping them with bananas is good to ripen, but hasn’t worked for me.

Asda does good “just avocado” in the dips aisle, but that’s extra plastic packaging.

First world problems!

Gemma2019 · 27/11/2019 18:35

Loopytiles I buy the bags of frozen chopped avocado from either Tesco or Waitrose and just weigh out 60g or whatever every day. They are brilliant for mashing on toast (I add a bit of salt and lemon juice) but obviously not for salads or anything where you need the normal avocado texture.

Loopytiles · 27/11/2019 18:42

Thank you! Didn’t know you could get them frozen! MN is so informative!

fussychica · 27/11/2019 19:11

Every day. We always have a decent breakfast
Porridge with berries and honey
Muesli, granola, bran flake mix with loads of chopped fruit and natural yoghurt
Croissants and homemade marmalade
Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs
Very rarely bacon, eggs, mushrooms and toast.

MelGrange · 02/12/2019 14:33

@Gemma2019

I’ve seen the frozen avocados but thought they wouldn’t be very nice. I’ll try some, thank you.

Stravapalava · 02/12/2019 17:52

I work afternoons, so I come home from the school run every day and make myself a lovely breakfast. I save the crusts of the bread as they're my favourites just for my breakfasts! I make various things, including but not limited to:

Proper hob cooked porridge with various toppings
Poached eggs on marmite or bovril on toast
Poached eggs on crumpets
Toast with salmon philadelphia and cooked tomatoes
Mushroom omelette
Banana pancakes
Peanut butter bagels
Scrambled egg on toast
Cheese toastie
Banana and peanut butter toastie
Fruit and yoghurt

Anything savoury is fair game to have mushrooms / peppers / onion etc added to it, depending on what I've got in the fridge that needs using.
