Does anybody make themselves a really lovely breakfast very regularly?

I love breakfast, it's my favourite meal to eat out, but rarely do I really treat myself or buy nice stuff to treat myself at home. A lady I work with cooks herself something different for breakfast every day- all her favourites - where I rush to work and eat a bowl of cereal at my desk or a cereal bar or peanut butter sandwich. Does anyone on here really make an effort for their breakfast? I'm not talking about being speedy or easy necessarily- was inspired by another thread about self care- as this lady at work sees it as a way of looking after herself

I have poached egg on avocado toast for breakfast every morning with a freshly made latte

It sets me up for the day!

Inspiring thread! I’m looking to increase the fun in my good, I hadn’t thought of breakfast.

Caspianberg · 26/11/2019 15:00

Yes. Its not usually fancy or too complicated, but I do like to have a leisurely breakfast even if its some simple toast and fruit. Always get up early enough to allow for breakfast not to be rushed.

Maybe try getting up 20 mins earlier to allow you time to make a nice drink and breakfast not at your desk. Even if it is the same thing you would usually eat

I make pancakes pretty much every Saturday morning for me, DH and the DC. We have them with the tradition lemon/lime and sugar.

I have sourdough toast every Friday morning in Waitrose cafe after I’ve done the weekly shop. I don’t know why I don’t buy a loaf of it to take home!

Loopytiles · 26/11/2019 15:09

Oooh, good breakfast tips! Must try some of these. Feel remiss that have never made my DC “eggy bread”!

I love breakfast but commute.

For commute days often make overnight oats with fresh cherries, bircher meusli, or breakfast sandwiches (lightly toasted wholemeal muffin, veggies/eggs, cheese) in batches of 6, freeze then defrost overnight and microwave at work.

Weekends feel busy too. Sometimes do salmon and scrambled eggs. Nowhere good to eat breakfast or get good take out coffee and bread: miss London for things like that.

Kanga83 oats in almond milk sounds lovely. Do you eat it cold?

HollowTalk · 26/11/2019 15:12

I chop up an avocado and add crumbled feta cheese and halved cherry tomatoes. I have that on a toasted onion bagel. It's lovely.

I also have Greek yoghurt and raspberries and blueberries (I defrost these overnight), and I sprinkle granola over it.

Not both on the same day, though!

amusedbush · 26/11/2019 15:15

My colleague gets up early every morning and has a smoked salmon bagel (or something similarly fancy!) with fresh coffee and a glass of orange juice. He says he makes sure to sit at the table and focus on his food to really enjoy it.

I'm usually found shoving toast into my face at my desk Blush

Chelsea26 · 26/11/2019 15:16

I only have breakfast at the weekends but my favourite is scrambled eggs with bacon, mushroom, spring onions and spinach - maybe on some toast if I have bread in.

Bunnylady53 · 26/11/2019 15:38

I don’t make an effort often enough & actually I miss breakfast altogether frequently. When I do take the time, I love mashed avocado on toast with black pepper or bacon & egg. I find I don’t get hungry so quickly if I have protein as part of my breakfast

Kanga83 · 26/11/2019 15:43

@Skap yes, if you make it up the night before and pop it in the fridge, it thickens up overnight like normal porridge then it's a base to add whatever you like. I sometimes make it without cacao and add frozen berries which thaw and make it all fruity for morning. If you look up 'overnight oats' there are loads of ideas.

StrayWoman · 26/11/2019 15:56

Our work canteen has everything - fry ups, porridge, poached eggs, pastries etc, so they don't really feel like a treat to me anymore - more like a temptation to be avoided every day!

But when I go to a nice cafe I love eggs benedict with bacon.

Beseen19 · 26/11/2019 15:58

I'm a SAHM with a toddler at the mo and we like a slow morning. He gets up at 6am and we never leave the house before 10am so we have plenty time for breakfast.
DS has most of his calories during breakfast, we have a few courses usually cereal, fruit, yoghurt and toast. Other days we have porridge or french toast and I'll often have an egg dish.
Nothing ever takes very long to cook at breakfast time but the dishes are always a pain!

MontStMichel · 26/11/2019 16:04

Boiled egg with:

A) three different fruits, such as melon, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, grapes, mango, figs, kiwi fruits
B) toast
C) maybe Parma ham on the melon
D) a small piece of cheese or cheese triangle

Crystal87 · 26/11/2019 16:58

Toasted rye bread with mashed avocado and a poached egg. I make this if I've got time after dropping the kids at school.

Lamentations · 26/11/2019 17:27

I frequently buy smoked salmon, cream cheese and bagels and nobody else better even look at them.

isseywith4vampirecats · 26/11/2019 17:48

getyourgrooveback · 26/11/2019 17:50

I make myself shakshuka on sundays. My absolute fave.
I also like an omelette with halved cherry toms drizzled with honey, cucumber chunks and friend halloumi yum yum

itsboiledeggsagain · 26/11/2019 17:56

Oh I love this thread!

Pipandmum · 26/11/2019 17:59

Two eggs, smoked salmon, piccolo tomatoes and samphire is my standard daily breakfast. On special occasions it's french toast and bacon. My friend makes her son pancakes every day. My daughter doesn't eat breakfast and my son makes a smoothie for himself. But restaurant breakfast (or rather brunch) is my favourite meal but I couldn't eat it every day (no time and the calories)!

AlexandraPeppernose · 26/11/2019 18:35

I have a cheese omelette everyday. It takes 5 mins

AdoptedBumpkin · 26/11/2019 18:40

I tend to go more for continental rather than English breakfasts at home. Shock

neversleepagain · 26/11/2019 18:46

I make my dc and myself American style pancakes most morning. They are delicious and look like you've made a big effort too. I don't add sugar and add an extra egg for the protein. We have honey and fruit on top.

Redcliff · 26/11/2019 18:53

We do pancakes at the weekend - one mug of flour, the same mug of milk and one egg. So good! I do have porridge every week day - 2 mins cooking in the microwave, 1 min resting in the microwave (the extra minute makes the difference) then a bit of honey- yumm. My DH has his with dried fruit and honey

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 26/11/2019 19:38

We have a cooked breakfast/waffles or pancakes every weekend. I often cook sausages while I'm getting ready for a sausage sandwich. or I have greek yogurt and fruit. if I'm rushing I just have a banana/tea.
