Tesco delivery saver Xmas slots open up at midnight tonight for those with delivery saver passes. Anyone staying up to get one?

If I'm on the midweek delivery saver scheme, because of the way Xmas falls this year, does that mean I'll either have to get a delivery on Thurs 19th (too early), or Tues 24th (too late - i have fear of substitututions!)? Or do those rules go out the window for Christmas? I can't see anything on website. Thanks!

PrettyPurse · 26/11/2019 19:16

@cocomelon23

Yes. Basically mid week customers miss out this year

PrettyPurse · 26/11/2019 19:17

You can book a slot but will have to pay for it

Musicalstatues · 26/11/2019 19:20

@origamiwarrior you can book a slot for any day you’ll just have to pay an additional charge. I seem to recall that actually they charge you anyway for delivering on xmas eve even if it falls on one of your usual delivery days.

blackteaplease · 26/11/2019 19:25

The secret to Tesco Christmas slots is to stop adding to it about a week before. That way anything out of stock will be substituted with an alternative if needed. If you keep tinkering with your slot up to the night before out of stock items get removed from your basket but not substituted. and it's easy to miss that detail when you check out and that's how you end up with missing items.

Cyw2018 · 26/11/2019 19:27

I'm away until late Tuesday 23rd, so am hoping for Christmas Eve morning slot, with the plan that I will go into town to top up on anything missing/choose alternatives in the afternoon. If I can't get a delivery slot I will click and collect and leave it in the car whilst I top up at a different supermarket.

Fraggle45 · 26/11/2019 19:29

Tesco don't do Xmas eve slots usually unless in central London?

Will the 27th be available to book as well?

cocomelon23 · 26/11/2019 19:30

4.5 hours to go!

Some stores don't do deliveries on Christmas eve - just to warn you :-)

Dizzywizz · 26/11/2019 19:55

Argh I can’t stay up I’ll have to see what’s left in the morning

Cyw2018 · 26/11/2019 20:06

Thanks for the heads up fraggle. I definitely don't live centrally, so I think I can safely assume there won't be Xmas Eve slots where I am.

Do you know if click and collect runs on Xmas Eve? Also does the booking for that open tonight as well?

chocolateisavegetable · 26/11/2019 20:11

fraggle from what I remember, I don't think the 27th will be available tonight

HalyardHitch · 26/11/2019 20:15

I booked my morrisons Christmas slot a couple of weeks ago. I was very excited this morning to be looking at cheeses to add to my order Grin

Evenstar · 26/11/2019 20:24

ASDA do still have slots I have just booked one for the 23rd, it is fully booked for delivery on Christmas Eve

chocolateisavegetable · 26/11/2019 20:29

I have an M&S collection slot booked so at least I know I'll have my turkey Smile

Ruraldream · 26/11/2019 20:36

I've lost faith. The year before last we had treated ourselves to finest this and that for Xmas dinner. It had been in the basket for nearly a month. All substituted for basic versions. It's better to go shopping at 5am with the self scanner thing.

Fraggle45 · 26/11/2019 20:41

No I don't think click n collect is Xmas eve either

I'm sure the delivery guy who comes here says they don't do any orders Xmas eve as they don't want to let people down at the last minute so stopping on 23rd leaves most people time to dash to the local shops

chocolateisavegetable · 26/11/2019 22:02

Wish I didn't have to go to work tomorrow - I'm sooooo tired already, and it's 2 hours to go!

Fraggle45 · 26/11/2019 22:45

I wonder why they release them this late at night, surely 10pm or 7am would be a better choice

MelanieFrontage · 26/11/2019 22:47

Meeee! But I must not drink too many glasses of wine and fall asleep 😂

Saladd0dger · 26/11/2019 22:51

I’m staying up. Iv booked my main Xmas shop already so it falls on double discount weekend. Just my top up shop of milk etc a few days before Xmas. I’m so tired Iv literally just got home from work. Will be amazed if I last another hour

cocomelon23 · 26/11/2019 22:52

Yes I wondered why they're released at midnight too.

I have an ocado slot and and asda slot already booked, gonna see if I get a better one from tesco then see who has the best products cheese and cancel the other two.
We are eating out on the day so just general nibbles, treats and cheese to order

chocolateisavegetable · 26/11/2019 23:05

I have a vague memory that last year the slots became available before midnight - but that might be a mixture of wishful thinking and exhaustion!

MelanieFrontage · 26/11/2019 23:21

They probably release at midnight because they don’t have to re-code their slot releases, always at midnight on a given date. All they need to change is the T minus days on which slots are released.
That’s only one change rather than two which for such a critical IT system is far easier to manage.
