Comfortable Walking Flip Flops

We are going away next weekend and every year, I always take impractical sandals and end up with awful pain in the soles of my feet when we've been on a long walk. Last year I tried both the Fit Flops with the large wedge heel and the flatter version and both were really uncomfortable.

Has anybody found any comfortable sandals or flip flops? I'm edging towards some without a toe post in the hope that'll remove some discomfort.

I've got sliders too which aren't comfortable for walking!

If all else fails, I'll take a pair of trainers. They just don't look the best with summer dresses

Havianas. So comfortable.

Birkinstocks are my favourite. I walk the dog ( 5 miles + ) every day in them during the summer.

Flip flops are never going to be great for walking in, there’s no support. I wear these sandals for sightseeing.

Hugely unpopular on MN, but I find sketchers Go Walks very comfortable for walking in. They were my go to footwear when we went to Orlando.

I don't understand the MN love for Havaianas. They are just expensive, cheap looking rubber flip flops, and entirley unsuitable for walking any further than to the pool in.

Teva sandals are supposed to be good, but it might be difficult to find any at this time of year.

Try sizing down with the wedge FitFlops. Any flip flops are really uncomfortable for me as either the toe-post rubs or they "slap" against the soles of my feet - I just thought I had the type of feet that don't get along with flip flops until I mistakenly bought a pair of FitFlops in the size down... now I don't wear anything else I'm dry weather.

Crocs make flip flops! They look normal (sorry, I hate proper Crocs!) They are extremely comfy.

Sports direct - sketchers go foam I think they were called, got them for Florida last year and it was like walking on air!

Croc Capri flip flops. Not recognisable as Crocs and not bulky.

So comfy to wear all day walking around.

I love my Tevas, I've been all round the world in them and walked miles and miles. You should be able to get them in an online store.

Another vote for Fitflops. I'm on my second pair, worn them throughout two pregnancies and on holidays round NY (lots and lots of walking). Honestly the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn.

Aussie soles! I've had mine for two years and they've been across oceans and hemispheres. Moulded in a piece, cushion, clinging and totally non-floppy. Good on city streets, coral beaches and round the house and garden. They'd Queensland based but sell online. Beware of Australian shoe sizes which are the same as US ones. Add 2 to your UK size.

I lived in my Skechers sandals in the summer. Then had Go Walks for autumn and just switched to Skechers boots for the winter.

I swear I don't work for Skechers but I have weird feet which need the comfort I get from all the products I've tried from them, I walk a lot so they really earn their keep here.

It's such a personal.thing that recommendations really don't help. I have Havianas and FitFlops. The Havianas are ok but I certainly couldn't walk in them for any extended period. Whereas I can (and do) wear my FirFlops to walk miles. However some other people find them uncomfortable.

Sketchers are so ugly but lots of people are prepared to sacrifice looks for comfort, myself included. My mother swears by hers and wears them everywhere.

Sadly I think it's trial and error.

I absolutely hated my Havianas and Birkenstocks. My go to flip flops are a cheapish pair of Animal ones that are a padded fabric and so so comfortable.

My DD swears by her Sketchers, she's usually very fashion conscious but has a simple pair of black sketchers that she lives in on holidays. I'm watching this with interest as I will be looking for a ballet pump style sketcher for my hols after Christmas.

Thank you everybody. I think I might try a pair of Skechers! I really wish FitFlops suited me but they hurt so much. I'm going to look like a dork in Skechers but I'm sure DP won't mind as long as I'm not moaning about achey feet

Quite frankly, you will look silly wearing shoes that are clearly uncomfortable. Anything that is fit for purpose will always look better.
