Are your Christmas decorations already up?

If so, when did you put them up?

Never until the 20-something of December. Am aware that I’m in a minority on this one.

I agree. And then it stays up until 12h night. I find often people who out their trees up too early take them down on Boxing day which I think is crazy because that is still in the Christmas period.

OctopusNow · 24/11/2019 22:32

I showed DS some Xmas socks tonight, they were a gift from last year that he might have grown into now. Really cute with fluffy reindeer, his eyes lit up. I asked if he'd like to try them on?
"No because it's not Christmas yet!" Grin

He's wise for a 3yr old.

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 24/11/2019 22:34

Nope, up on 16th December (day after dhs birthday) and come down day after boxing day.

No, DD's birthday is in December and we liked to keep her birthday and Christmas separate. Also we had cats who liked nothing better than playing with the new "toys" we hung on the tree, so we would spend a significant amount of time removing our cats from the tree and re hanging baubles.

ohhshizz · 24/11/2019 22:44

Mines up. In the fucking loft where it will remain until December 20th!

Soen · 24/11/2019 22:53

Agree with Ohhschizz

megletthesecond · 24/11/2019 22:59

No. It's November.

Ours will go up on the 16th/17th Dec. I'll be sick of the tree being in the way within 24hs.

AdaFromYorkshire · 24/11/2019 23:03

No, they won't go up until about 20 December. Each to their own etc, etc, but Christmas is just a few days here, not six weeks. Come Boxing Day evening I'll be itching to take them down but will probably wait a couple of days.

It runs in the family. My cousin puts them up on Christmas Eve and takes them down on the 27th.

I like seeing other people's lights when I'm out running though and often plan my routes around the best roads.

MrsPear · 24/11/2019 23:05

I start slowly on the first ... the tree won’t be up until the weekend of the 14th. I take it all down the first day back to school. H’s Christmas is new year so can’t take down too soon.

PestoPlatypus · 24/11/2019 23:10

No, not in November 🙄

Usually put them up the weekend before Christmas & take them down at New Year.

SeaViewBliss · 24/11/2019 23:16

No. Ours will go up 10 days or so before. The exception being out very pretty and tasteful Wink lights in the tree on our front garden which might come on a bit sooner.

MonChatEstMagnifique · 24/11/2019 23:25

Not yet, we will probably do it next weekend. 🎄 I've ordered a few new decorations that will arrive this week. Lots of people we know have theirs up already.

Fatted · 24/11/2019 23:29

Yup, put my tree up this morning!!

And it will be up until the 12 days is finished in January.

I've had a shit year and I've had some fucking miserable family new this weekend to finish it off. Putting the tree up today has just been some nice family time and a welcome distraction for a few hours.

worriedmigraine · 24/11/2019 23:34

I put a glittery reindeer on the shelf about a month ago

Got the mini Xmas trees out today plus a few other ornaments

Tree will go up wed night

drivingtofrance · 24/11/2019 23:40

No.

Not until at least 20 December. Then they come down on the eve of the 5 Jan.

I don't like to see all the trees and decorations up too early
Brings out the Grinch in me Halloween Confused

coffeeoclock · 24/11/2019 23:44

I put our tree up today (it's only half decorated though as we need to get some more stuff).

I think it's nice seeing the lights and decorations in the town/on people's houses too.

Having depression it's one of the small things I can do to make myself feel a bit better for a month or so!

Nanalisa60 · 24/11/2019 23:54

No it’s still November will put them up on the 1st December

Bloodybridget · 25/11/2019 00:15

I'd never put them up this early, will do them before 14th this year as we have our family Christmas get-together then. I do like seeing other people's trees and lights, no matter how early!

elp30 · 25/11/2019 00:25

I'm American so I don't put Christmas decorations up until after Thanksgiving which happens this Thursday, November 28th. Anything before seems premature.

BarbaraofSeville · 25/11/2019 03:42

Same here, we're on holiday mid December so won't even think about it until after then. But yes, I think this year it will be up during the weekend 21/22 December and down on 4/5 January.

One year they didn't go up until 27 December when I bought a prelit fake tree in the sale. One of the reasons putting me off Christmas trees is that I hate putting the lights on, so the prelit tree solved that problem.

One of the two houses locally that always do big external displays has had theirs up for a couple of weeks already, surprised the other hasn't but they're probably still getting over Halloween when they were featured on the local news and had a big switch on that brought so much traffic and badly parked cars, it gridlocked the village.

Whattodoabout · 25/11/2019 07:45

No, I refuse to accept Christmas until the 1st of December. It’s shocking how many people already have their decorations up, I’d be sick of them by Christmas!

Trumpton · 25/11/2019 07:46

The sylvanians are all ready !

Are your Christmas decorations already up?
ImportantWater · 25/11/2019 07:48

I know people are entitled to put decs up whenever they want and it shouldn’t affect me. But I do find those who are putting them up now with squeals of delight are the ones who are posting on SM on Boxing Day about how all the decs are down, phew, that’s Christmas over for another year, the house looks so much cleaner now. And that harshes my Christmas buzz, to coin a phrase, because I want it to keep going until 12 th night!

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 25/11/2019 07:51

Nope

Going up on Saturday the 30th of November

PrettyShiningPeople · 25/11/2019 07:52

It symbolises one of the problems with our society today..... people have no patience and need instant gratification.
