Have you ever sent anything to the Royal Family?

I was reading something in a magazine about how many presents William and Kate received when George was born. Apparently they got loads of stuff from members of the public. I can't imagine doing that - sending a gift to someone I didn't know.

Just wondered whether anyone on here has sent a gift to someone like the Royal family, or someone famous. Or do you know anyone who has?

Nothing to add sorry but I'm loving reading this thread :-)

When I was growing up in the 70s my best friend sent Princess Ann a present for her new baby. A 'rattle' - a soap box containing bits of tin foil. She got a letter of thanks!

No, never sent anything. But I was invited to the Palace once to meet Charles, it was not long before Harry's wedding. And a woman who attended the same function took 2 large gift bags, one a wedding present and the other a 'hen do' gift. She looked absolutely insane presenting them to Charles, who was very polite as he passed them to his security bloke.

No, but I've farted in their general direction.

I think these are the kind of people who shout at actors in the street because of the characters they play.

They aren’t allowed to receive gifts. I think they’re donated to charity. Lots of people send their gifts to Kate’s mum or sister in the hope that she’ll see it or they’ll pass it on to her.

People really do that???

No, I don’t send gifts or greeting cards to celebrities I have never met. Nor do I grieve when they die.

Sometimes I genuinely wonder if I am the only sane one left....

My DD aged about 7 wrote to the Queen regularly. She got a reply every time that referenced previous letters too. She did write weekly! It was during the Queens Annus Horriblis. I decided that the LinW would say 'Ooooh Liz, that little girl wants to know about your horses this week. Makes a nice change from the press intrusion, eh?'

VenusClapTrap · 24/11/2019 23:38

Bloody hell. So where was my nice reply from a lady in waiting then, back in 1981? I sent a photo of me dressed up as Lady Di in our school re-enactment of the royal wedding. Gutted.

When my DD was about 3 Princess Diana was married . DD and I made a nice card with a picture and a message from DD. She got a beautiful letter back - on parchment, lovely. She still has it.

Reminds me of the Royal Gift Incinerator Grin

I invited Princess Beatrice to tea. I think we had to write a formal invitation for my brownie hostess badge and I figured that level of formality was for princesses and she was about my age. Never heard back!

Hugh Grant gets a selection of Christmas Cards from the public in Love Actually. I hoped the queen got the same!
