Have you ever sent anything to the Royal Family?

I was reading something in a magazine about how many presents William and Kate received when George was born. Apparently they got loads of stuff from members of the public. I can't imagine doing that - sending a gift to someone I didn't know.

Just wondered whether anyone on here has sent a gift to someone like the Royal family, or someone famous. Or do you know anyone who has?

No. As nice a gesture as it is, it would just be one of many and would most likely never reach the intended recipient.
My DD's class apparently made cards for Harry and Meghan's wedding and they all brought home a printed postcard they'd got back as a thank you.

KateFoster · 23/11/2019 22:04

A letter to Harry when I was 8 asking him to marry me. I got a letter back and read it out in assembly 🤦🏽‍♀️ he said he had to marry a princess and then married Megan. Even though I'm married now I'm still so angry about the lies 😤😂

Stupiddriver1 · 23/11/2019 22:08

I wrote a letter to the Queen when I was about 8yo (under instruction from my mother) to warn her one of the bushes in the grounds of Buckingham palace was poisonous and to keep William and Harry (small kids) away from it. Got a reply from a lady in waiting thanking me.

I’m always astonished that people spend Christmas Day in the freezing cold watching the royals go to church. The peasants stand behind barriers doffing their proverbial flat caps watching the toffs strolling along. No thank you!
Years ago when William and Harry were young, people used to give them selection boxes etc. Like they’d ever be allowed to eat them in case they’d been laced with poison!

Starlight456 · 23/11/2019 22:17

@KateFoster that made me 🤣.

I am a Royal Fan but never would occur to me to send them anything.

I did send a letter to Margret Thatcher about tampon tax when I was a teen and got a response for Downing Street basically saying they planned to do nothing .

PiggyPlumPie · 23/11/2019 22:20

Lolimax snap!

Still have the letter from a lady in waiting after I sent a drawing to the Queen in 77 after seeing her in Derby!

minniemoll · 23/11/2019 22:26

I did wonder what they would have said if she'd accepted... Imagine the trauma over the seating plan!

CocoLoco87 · 23/11/2019 22:31

@KateFoster Grin best thing I've read today

AdaColeman · 23/11/2019 22:37

@KateFoster It's hard to recover from that level of betrayal, but I've heard that he has smelly feet, so you actually had a lucky escape!

I’m a teacher and my class wrote to the Queen when it was her birthday or something. We got a card and letter back. It was very sweet.

I can totally see the idea of inviting her to your wedding just to get a reply.

My DD coloured in a picture and I wrote an accompanying letter to the Queen for her birthday 4 years ago - DD has the same birthday. We got a lovely standard thank you card and a Personal letter signed by a lady in waiting. I was really quite touched by it all.

He looks like the type that would be a bit sweaty doesn’t he! A bit fusty.

I once saw on eBay a lovely hand drawn baby name picture personalised with the name George on and lots of lovely London inspired sketches scattered around.

When reading the description, the seller explained that she’d sent it to Kate & William but it had been returned to her as she was a business and they couldn’t promote personal businesses so unfortunately, they’d sent it back.

I sent the Queen a new verse I'd made up for the National Anthem when I was six Blush

Rockbird · 24/11/2019 11:39

I sent a letter to the Queen because she was supposed to visit our area during her silver jubilee year and she had to cancel. Got a lovely letter back from a lady in waiting. I was only about 5 though!

CameraTime · 24/11/2019 12:46

@iklboo that's brilliant! Do you remember what your verse was?

OP posts:
iklboo · 24/11/2019 12:49

@CameraTime - the only bit I remember is:

God save our gracious Queen
Beautiful and serene

Visiting countries far
Even through peace and war

God save the Queen

SuzieBishop · 24/11/2019 12:50

I’m laughing at all of these replies because I send The Queen & Phillip, Charles & Camilla, Wills & Kate and Harry & Meghan a Christmas card every year!!
It all started when I wrote a letter to Prince William when I was in school and got a reply from Princess Diana’s lady in waiting.
You get cards back when you send a letter/card so I collect them and have done for years. And I KNOW they won’t see it and yes I KNOW it’s not from them but I like too!

TravellingSpoon · 24/11/2019 13:01

As a child I had a book called Dear Queen, which was a collection of letters and questions to the queen from children, and her responses. I poverty that book and wrote to her to tell her how much I loved it. I got a lovely response back. I remember telling her that when I gwlrew up I wanted the job of replying to her letters. Blush

DD's brownie group sent letters to Prince Harry and Meghan when they got married and they each got personal responses.
