I did exercise and now I'm dead

First attempt at getting back in shape in 3 years and I chose to start with HIT bootcamp.
I can't actually move! I've got 4 stone to shift so I need to make some major lifestyle changes too but oh my god!
Everything hurts, and I mean everything. Send me your recovery tips? Also, what can I do to make next week easier?

lots of stretching - warm bath - lots of stretching

Aquamarine1029 · 23/11/2019 17:00

Drink lots of water and push through it. The more you do the easier it will get. Keep moving and do gentle stretches to keep your muscles loose.

I jumped straight in the bath when I got home (well, hobbled). My legs are the heaviest things in the world right now Sad

Isn’t that supposed to be a good sign (as long as it isn’t pain!). Good for you - I’m still too lazy and for all my good intentions had a glass of wine instead...

Vickyprice · 23/11/2019 18:38

Not sure HIIT is the best thing to start with, it's completely full on and hard core - hats off for surviving though!

CatUnderTheStairs · 23/11/2019 18:39

I posted about this last week and got told the best thing was to keep movin* gently, so gentle walk etc, then definitely go back to the class. They were right. Well done, keep on with it, you’ll see an improvement after your 3rd class and loads after your 5th.

Loopytiles · 23/11/2019 18:39

Be careful not to hurt yourself / not enjoy it.

Loads of exercise options. I started off with walking, which is free and can listen to whatever you enjoy.

lilgreen · 23/11/2019 18:40

Well done! I find it helps to go for a walk the day after, to stretch the muscles.

Looneytune253 · 23/11/2019 18:42

Best thing to do is keep moving. I've been there but escaped the full on muscle soreness as I went swimming/dancing on the days I wasn't doing HIIT. Also remember to keep hydrated and plenty of protein (chicken/eggs etc). Epsom salts are supposed to be good in your bath too though I've not tried

ohwheniknow · 23/11/2019 18:43

The only encouraging thing I can say is that it's only this bad the first time and that's because you just used muscles that haven't been used like that before. So this is them in shock and protesting "are you trying to kill us?!" Then dramatically fainting, whereas next time they'll just be like "oh, this is a thing now then?" and it will be tiring and achey but not as extreme.

And that is the science. Grin

Biancadelrioisback · 23/11/2019 18:46

Aw thanks!
Yes HIIT wasn't the best decision ever. I just thought I may as well throw myself into it and it's only 40 minutes at the crack of dawn on a Saturday so I'd still have my full weekend.
I hate cardio but hey, it's needed!
I feel quite relaxed now but I think if I try and move I'll die all over again. So I guess I'm here for the night!
I keep saying that I don't want to go next week but I know I have to!!!

@ohwheniknow that proper made me laugh

Well done on doing HIIT! The only thing I’ve found that eases the pain of DOMs is exercising again, as ridiculous as that sounds, it warms up the muscles again.

PigOnStilts · 23/11/2019 19:04

I did kettlebells this morning op and am swaggering about like some Ukrainian weightlifter. I will suffer tomorrow...

3 stone here to go.

Nonstopbuttmachine · 23/11/2019 19:04

Oh I feel your pain OP. I joined a boxing club last week and the only words I have uttered since are OW OW OW OW 😅 I'm re-starting pilates next week after a 2-year break so I expect to just whimper and sob by Wednesday 😵😵😵

Kaykay066 · 23/11/2019 19:05

I did hitt and loved it but it’s hard but it gets easier the more you do it. I really need to do more as I stopped going and now I’m really fat and unfit and feel urgh

LadyLindaT · 23/11/2019 19:06

Epsom salts bath might help?

ShowOfHands · 23/11/2019 19:07

Wait. Till. Tomorrow. Mwahahaha.

Honestly, just do some more gentle exercise tomorrow. I'm very fit and have been doing hiit, distance and fell running, climbing, weights for years. I've just started a cardio barre/pilates programme and my legs hate me.

Howaboutnoooo · 23/11/2019 19:10

Drink water/squash and have a warm bath and well done! x

MIdgebabe · 23/11/2019 19:15

Move, exercise every day, not just once a week. Best recovery something gentle tomorrow.

Add some muscle building , not the day before though! and stretching

I did hit today too

Biancadelrioisback · 23/11/2019 19:39

I walk a few miles every day to and from work and I planned to do Pilates too. I used to do it for years but haven't even tried in over 3!
I'm actually worried about tomorrow. I'm supposed to be painting a ceiling and I'm not sure my arms will work...

Biancadelrioisback · 24/11/2019 07:56

Yikes. In the cold light of day I feel like I've been hit by a bus!

Loopytiles · 24/11/2019 07:58

Loopytiles · 24/11/2019 07:58
