I did exercise and now I'm dead

First attempt at getting back in shape in 3 years and I chose to start with HIT bootcamp.
I can't actually move! I've got 4 stone to shift so I need to make some major lifestyle changes too but oh my god!
Everything hurts, and I mean everything. Send me your recovery tips? Also, what can I do to make next week easier?

I love bootcamp and it makes me do things I would never do myself. I missed 3 weeks and despite being a regular exerciser (eg running 5 times a week) that hour of bootcamp left me absolutely broken and I couldn't even sit down!

It does get better though, I like to do some gentle yoga stretches on YouTube if I'm very sore.

I’m a lazy fucker. I realised how out of breath I was getting and how moving generally was starting to get more difficult so I signed up to our local park boot camp. It was hell BUT it’s only 45 minutes twice a week and it’s just down the road. Stick with it. The improvements for me were gradual but every now and then I see a step change. Now, 35 sessions in (I have a star chart) I can finish almost everything without feeling like my heart is going to stop (or I’m about to vomit). In fact although I don’t look forward to it I see it as a good part of my week. I still get stiff and my muscles hurt but nothing like they did at the start and I know it’s because I’ve worked hard. Stick with it OP it’s worth it. I feel so much better and I look better too - I’m not thin by any stretch but I’m nowhere near as wobbly as I was.
I recommend the star chart. Every ten stars I buy myself a treat 😂

Have a painkiller, I feel your pain.

GeneandFred · 24/11/2019 09:48

It's horrendous isn't it?

I started last week with a body conditioning class and i was in agony for 4 days.

On Friday I went for a 13 mile hike and I'm now in the worst pain of my life. I can barely walk and im in agony. Total agony. Ow.

I'm on the sofa but need to vacuum the house and the thought of standing up is making me want to cry

You will feel much better if you warm and stretch your muscles. It may not feel like it, but sitting still will make it worse.

Reading through the thread, I saw the date was yesterday and I was just thinking to myself, boy but she's in for it today!
My advice is to stretch all sore muscles and fit in a gentle walk. Stretch before and after walk.
You can take paracetamol and Nurofen too you know. Heat rub or Freeze rub can help too. Tomorrow you'll be sore again too.

Following day you should be recovered.

You jumped into a class for very fit people, so you're going to hurt. Pilates this week should be gentler until you build up strength gradually.

I've been ill for 3 months and came out of hospital 10 days ago. I've been walking every day (very very slowly the first two days) since and have an appointment with a PT Tuesday. I will be using the gym machines and some gentle body weight bearing exercises myself. I will do Pilates this week too. After two weeks doing that maybe 4-5 times a week, I'll rejoin the classes. I used to be an avid gym goer until I got sick, so I know what my body is capable of right now. Before I got ill I'd say my fitness was at an 8/10. Now it's at a 1/10, so I need to respect that and not jump in at the deep end.

I did it again! I went back and did it again.
Took me all week to recover, and I nearly cried at the thought of going, but I did. I'm freezing cold and sweaty. My abs are in pieces and my legs are jelly... Send help!

Epsom salt baths are great

And taking magnesium supplements

And stretching

Igottastartthinkingbee · 30/11/2019 09:37

Keep going OP! Good on you for doing it again, make it a routine now.

jaggynettle · 30/11/2019 10:04

Good for you for going back 😀 I find a protein shake helps with muscle repair. Second what other posters have said re gentle exercise and warm baths. It gets easier - probably about four weeks down the line! Well done again 👍🏼👍🏼

Biancadelrioisback · 30/11/2019 10:06

Awe thank you :)
I was nearly in tears at the thought of going and I've been in pain all week, but if I'm going to drop the weight and tone up I need to do something!

Epsom salts are your friend. The pound shop have them in at the moment but if you're going to stick with it then buy in bulk on the internet.

Hot salty bath, soak for 20 mins and then stretch whilst still warm, you'll be grand.
