Best travel mug?

LilouBlue · 23/11/2019 07:25

I want to get my OH a good travel mug for Christmas. Leakproof so he can chuck it in his bag! He tends to drink it quite quickly so no need to keep it hot for hours on end but I guess that would be a bonus. I've heard good things about Contigo, but are there any of their models that are particularly recommended? Or other brands? Cheaper than contigo would be good... 😁
Thanks in advance!

Contigo is worth the money! Had 1 for a good few years and it’s never leaked unlike many others.

Meant to say I chuck it in my handbag as it doesn't leak at all.

SweepTheHalls · 23/11/2019 07:30

Contigo! We have 2 each, one for water and one for coffee!

BikeRunSki · 23/11/2019 07:30

Definitely Contigo. I dint think they really do more than one model.

beela · 23/11/2019 07:32

I came on to say contigo! I take mine to work, dh takes his to the side of the rugby pitch. Well worth the investment imo.

Contigo is absolutely worth the money (but they often come up on Amazon Black Friday deals so keep an eye)

VolcanionSteamArtillery · 23/11/2019 07:40

I used to say contigo, but the last couple havent held their heat. Now i have this and its amazing! it holds the heat better and is more slimline

Actually these are decent for a budget version. They do hold their heat as well as thermos, but they do it better than contigo

Contigo Glaze Twistseal Travel Mug, Stainless Steel Thermal Mug, Vacuum Flask, Leakproof Tumbler, Coffee Mug with BPA Free Easy-Clean Lid, Matte Black, 470 ml www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07W3655CX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Jio2Db1ZSCJSR?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 or this one. Apparently the ceramic glaze means there's no metallic taste...?

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece excellent tip, thanks! I like the look of the Thermos ones too...

My Contigo (probably 4 or 5 years old) is leakproof but doesn't hold heat very well, perhaps a couple of hours untouched, but once you start sipping at it it cools very quickly.

HappyintheHills · 23/11/2019 07:47

Yes that’s the one OP, marvellous cups, mine is approaching 5 years old, still absolutely trustworthy in my bag.

Kaffiene · 23/11/2019 07:52

The twist would annoy me I prefer the one handed action of the Loop. DH prefers the Byron though.

beela · 23/11/2019 08:02

My top tip is, get a brushed aluminium one, the paint starts flaking off the others and they start to look tatty especially if you ignore the warning about not putting them in the dishwasher

Exp1etiveDeLighted · 23/11/2019 08:06

Yes, all the paint is gone off ours now but they did look messy when it started to flake.

NearlySchoolTimeAgain · 23/11/2019 08:18

Are they dishwasher proof?

We have bodum cups - great for holding heat for a while and they go through the dishwasher well. I don't think they're leakproof though - we keep ours upright.

healthylifestylee · 23/11/2019 08:26

I bought dp a thermos and it's brilliant. Doesn't leak, hot for hours and you can take the lid apart to a few separate pieces to clean. Even has a little hook for hanging a tea bag.
It's brilliant
