Would/have you gone to a school reunion?

I've been invited to my secondary school reunion, I'm contemplating whether to go or not. I haven't spoken to a lot of them since we left so it would be nice to see how they're doing. But I am worried it's just going to be a competition of who's done the best in life, hopefully it won't be because I feel like I've done very little to be proud of in that time (besides from having my children of course)

Nah we have had two didn’t go to either as I have moved away from the area and no family to stay with and chose summer when there is a fair on everyone goes home so no b&b/hotel etc or v expensive so I declined. The venue was also a bit tacky and they’d organised karaoke etc which really isn’t my cup of tea.

I also hated school & was bullied but had a nice group of friends I’d like to catch up with so we are going somewhere nice for a weekend instead.

I was invited to one the year we were all turning 40. I didn't go but i think quite a lot did. The guy who organised it and tracked me down via my parents sadly died very suddenly not long afterwards so I don't suppose there'll be another one.

Ie got a terrible memory so I don’t think I’d remember many people or the things we got up to! When Friendsreunited was popular I did get in touch with a few people and had nice chats but even then there were some people who remembered me well and I couldn’t recall them!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 22/11/2019 12:01

My school organises regional ones every couple of years which were fun when I was at university — you'd meet people from all different years and usually have afternoon tea somewhere.

I missed the only 'proper' reunion my year has had so far, but somebody often books a room in a pub for a couple of hours during a bank holiday if lots of people are about which I've always enjoyed. I liked most people, so it's nice to hear how they're all doing!

Gallivespian · 22/11/2019 12:11

I generally have an extremely good memory, but to be honest, I don't think I could tell you the names of five people in my class at secondary school, far less have any particular memories of what they were like, whether they were 'cool' or not. My brain has clearly decided to file under 'irrelevant.' Which, in fairness, is entirely true.

Yes, I did.

Met my dp there Grin

Hadn't seen him in 30 years. We were best friends at school but we lost touch along the way.

I wasn't sure I wanted to go (its not where I live now, so had to travel) but at the last minute I changed my mind.

Very glad of that. Grin

My school year recently had one, many said they was going so I debated going but main reason I didn’t want to go was I had a newborn at the time so in the end choose not to go, turned out in the less than 30 attended (think it was 26) out of a year group of 253 so was glad I didn’t go

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 22/11/2019 12:49

I actually really enjoyed school but I honestly can't imagine many things i'd like to do less than attend a reunion.

I have a friend who seems to organize a school reunion every year and I find it verging on actively weird.
