Here is another thread to discuss the PA interview and its repercussions.

I know people say she got it wrong when Diana died but I think it’s most probably one of the few times she put family first. I think it was dreadful the way people were baying for blood & were only pacified when 2 young bereaved teens were paraded in front of the crowds. I no royalist but it still angers me years later.

Bluerussian · 24/11/2019 15:47

Serendipity - Remember these are people who genuinely believe they have done nothing wrong who are surrounded by a cabal of hangers on who either believe the same, or are willing to pretend they do in the hope of some arslikahn favours.
.......
True!
...

WineOrGinOrBoth, I agree with your last post.

Sorry to sound cruel, but when you have been gifted the life and privilege the royal family have, you don't get to ponce around the country play acting at "being normal" and "like any other mother". I return to my previous rant about if we wanted normal people as royals, why not my late DM. Or any number of other people.

I think a lot of the backlash the royals are facing - and Harry and Meghan are probably the most egregious offenders - is this cake-and-eat-it act of being "special" on the one hand (with the privilege and unearned wealth that implies) and then this whingy whiney "but we're just regular folk" on the other.

If Harry and Meghan wanted to be treated as "normal" then as I said earlier, I am sure there's a 3 bed semi somewhere they could swap for.

@Wine I totally agree. In that instance her first duty was to her grandsons. They should have been kept out of the spotlight as long as possible and allowed time to grieve.

Some of the royals exploit their influence with the press and court their interest and then act all hurt that they cannot turn it off at will

I've been thinking about this a lot over the last couple of days. Surely PA cannot be as dumb as he come across? Is he the fall guy for this all? Why aren't any of the other big wigs being hounded like he is?
Also interesting to see Prince William being mentioned now too by the DM. A lot of speculation on twitter about his involvement with PA.

SerendipityJane · 24/11/2019 16:07

Bollocks. Her first duty by her own oath is to the country.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 24/11/2019 16:09

That's a bit heartless, no very heartless. The country didn't need her. She could have issued a statement or even given an interview from Balmoral. There was no love lost between her and Diana as everyone knew. The flag should have been flown at half mast and a statement given, but I think parading the young Princes around was beyond awful.

Obviously, intelligence is not in itself a virtue. That's not really what I meant. But if the RF were a bit brighter maybe they would do things that were actually useful and half justified their existence instead of acting like crass, decadent, hypocritical wankers all the time. They haven't all attended academically good schools but arguably William and Harry did (Eton).

SerendipityJane · 24/11/2019 16:13

Surely PA cannot be as dumb as he come across?

Back in the 90s, Jack Dee did a joke that when brains were being handed out, Prince Andrew misheard and thought they were talking hairstyles, so asked for Thick and wavy ....

I also have niggling at the back of my head watching something on TV, and a joke about the theatre the event was being shown from coming from the Prince Andrew "Spitting Image" puppet ....

Something like .... ...looks like they've found the perfect theatre for me ... Shaftesbury theatre .... 'coz there's nothing better than burying one's shaft ....

SerendipityJane · 24/11/2019 16:17

That's a bit heartless, no very heartless.

Not quite as heartless as going to sleep knowing that you could probably put a roof over every homeless person in the country (you are supposed to reign over) and still have a few estates left over and don't.

Did you see the size that of the room that interview was held in ? Fuck me. How many homeless soldiers could you fit into that ?

Moomin8 · 24/11/2019 16:19

Absolutely right 👏👏👏

Grin I wondered when someone would take the opportunity to Meghan bash!

When Diana died all they had to do was fly the flag at half mast and issue a statement. All the “your people need you, ma’am” stuff was just bollocks. And the parading of the boys was just shocking.

User0987613 · 24/11/2019 16:21

Agreed. Maybe he was the most careless one allowing himself to be photographed with the girls, waving from Epsteins house, thus easiest to frame. It could be part of a much larger plan to bring down the monarchy (not a bad idea imo) and there will be many people who will benefit hugely from such a shake-up.

Everything points to the fact that there are far more skeletons in the closet and DM has been drip feeding articles building up to some sort of climax. The Panorama interview will also bring significant momentum into the case.

This plan has probably been in place for decades. It's almost like "grooming" the public through media. It gradually sows seeds of mistrust into people's minds until an opportunity comes where public power (election? referendum? riots?) can overthrow the monarchy.

I genuinely don't believe that George will ever end up King.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 24/11/2019 16:28

Or it’s a conspiracy to take people’s minds off Brexit Wink

SerendipityJane · 24/11/2019 16:30

I wondered when someone would take the opportunity to Meghan bash!

Hmm

Only as part of a generalised what-a-bunch-of-scoungers-they-are bashing. Just in case anyone thought otherwise I was in no way singling Meghan out. But it's interesting to speculate on degrees of culpability .... given she chose to marry into the Royals, rather than being lumbered with it from birth should we adjust up or down ?

BertrandRussell · 24/11/2019 16:33

“ Just in case anyone thought otherwise I was in no way singling Meghan out.“
Well, apart from calling her and Harry the “most egregious” example, no you didn’t single them out at all!

Moomin8 · 24/11/2019 16:34

Why aren't any of the other big wigs being hounded like he is?

Personally, I think that when someone gets publicly thrown under the bus by the yes men that usually surround them, it's to cover up something even worse that may come out.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/11/2019 16:40

When Diana diesd - the parading of the boys was just shocking

Yes, it was - and Harry himself was quite right when he suggested it should never have happened

So where does that leave the Queen? Folk praise her for "looking after the lads' best interests" up at Balmoral, but where's the criticism for failing to stop the appalling walk behind the coffin?

She really can't have it both ways - or rather she can, but that doesn't mean we have to admire it

SerendipityJane · 24/11/2019 16:42

Well, apart from calling her and Harry the “most egregious” example, no you didn’t single them out at all!

OK, guilty Grin. A tadette.

AnyMinuteNow · 24/11/2019 16:46

I think you missed my point that its not about how much your education costs or your level of intellect.

Its about being bloody aware and having a basic conscience and moral compass. Some schools impart this ethos, others just arrogance, be they private or otherwise

Butterymuffin · 24/11/2019 17:00

a statement given, but I think parading the young Princes around was beyond awful.

My two cents: The Queen only made a public statement after being criticised for her silence. As head of the family, she could have taken the heat off William, Harry and even Charles earlier by making a statement on behalf of the whole family and saying straight away that the boys were grieving in private, with their father supporting them, and that the media should leave them alone. Had she given herself up to her public, it would have been harder for the media to keep pushing for access to William and Harry. But as with Aberfan (lots of stories recently, because of The Crown, about the Queen's regrets over this) she chose initially to do nothing and not get involved. This seems to be her way of avoiding doing the wrong thing. Sometimes it backfires badly.

RhinoskinhaveI · 24/11/2019 17:02

could probably put a roof over every homeless person in the country
I think this encapsulates the issue
we are ruled over by a family who have inherited vast estates and property in excess of their needs by orders of magnitude whilst ordinary people go homeless in increasing numbers

Wildorchidz · 24/11/2019 17:09

The Queen decided not to go to Aberfan in immediate aftermath because - rightly or wrongly - she felt that her presence there would detract from the rescue effort.

AnyMinuteNow · 24/11/2019 17:11

However much they could do it doesn't solve all the underlying issues of homelessness.

Doesn't the Duchy money from the food all go to charity? I thiught itsaw that recently.
