Tonsil Cancer? Any experience or knowledge? *PICTURE*

I know this isn't a place to get medical advice but I think I just need a push to either get over myself and stop worrying OR actually go to the GP.

I get tonsillitis quite frequently, I'd say about every 12-14 weeks or so for the last year. After the last bout (8 weeks ago) I noticed a small lump just behind my left tonsil, didn't think much of it as thought it was just swelling.

It hasn't gone away and it has gotten bigger. I'm probably about to start another mild tonsillitis flare up, they're a bit red and sore but the lump is what's concerning me most. Obviously I've done some googling, which probably hasn't helped. I don't smoke or drink so I'm not a super high risk factor, but it is worrying me a bit.

Anyone got any thoughts or experience?

Oh god how frustrating, I feel for you.

Thoughts for next time you decide to try and see a doctor, write down everything you can think of that you want to say, especially about food catching on the tonsils/polyps, if you didn’t think to say it to her today.

I find I get tangled in knots when I can’t think quickly enough and can’t get my words out. My mind goes a bit blank without my notes.

If things get any worse, do go back or maybe go to a walk in centre or something.

My thoughts are quite jumbled as I’m half asleep so I might not be saying anything useful! I hope you can sleep. Take all of the meds/sprays if you’re in pain!

HereForTheHelp · 19/11/2019 10:07

@HeavyMetalHoneyMonster I really tried to go through everything and I said everything was feeling stuck when I swallowed and she just sort of went 'well yeah, but you can still swallow'.

I feel a bit daft, but I'm still a bit worried in all honesty. I'm considering paying to see an ENT specialist but I don't know whether that's extreme?

Oh no. I sometimes wonder what the nhs is for these days. I’m (not very) shocked at how arrogant and dismissive so many doctors are!

If you can afford it, defo go to ENT privately. Its clearly making your life very unpleasant/uncomfortable.

Have you tried squeezing it? I have to drain my little boy’s tonsil bollocks and it’s deeply satisfying.

HereForTheHelp · 19/11/2019 12:54

@Ketomeato it's not really squeezable, it's quite far back and hard to reach. I usually flush out my stones but that's not where they gather. What comes out of your sons?? I didn't even know these were a thing!

@HeavyMetalHoneyMonster thank you, I'm looking into private just as a double reassurance!

He or I push on them with the blunt end of a pencil and out comes nasty cheesy badness.Grin

Go to A&E where you will see a specialist superquick. My partner was fobbed off with a nurse's appt by our GP surgery. We thought she had a grumbling appendix so decided to go to A&E. In 4 hours she'd had blood tests and a scan which revealed a huge ovarian cyst. She is being fast tracked for surgery.

HereForTheHelp · 19/11/2019 13:27

@joystir59 I don't think I should go to A&E, I don't really feel sick enough.
I hope you and your partner are okay though, that sounds so terrifying Thanks

Another gross pic below, I just don't think this looks like a healthy throat and this is how it looks all the time now 😩

Where’s your uvula? (Dangly thing)

HereForTheHelp · 19/11/2019 13:30

@Ketomeato sorry, that was just me going 'ahhh' at the time of the picture, it's there and all fine hahaha

I think it’s looking like haemorrhoids at the wrong end now.

Any squeezing, and fruits thereof, must be pictorially posted to Sporner Corner forthwith.

Ellapaella · 19/11/2019 18:16

If it were me and I was having these ongoing problems that weren't resolving with a constant sore throat I think I'd be either pushing for an ENT referral or paying for a consultation. ENT appointments are usually very high in demand, in the past I've waited up to 4 months for one. If a private consultation is around £200 and you can afford it then it'll put your mind at rest so probably worth it.

Fretfulparent · 19/11/2019 18:19

Serial photos weekly might help to show if it is changing at all. If it is growing, or causing a gagging sensation, or obstructing your swallowing then go back to the GP with the updated evidence.

Shrews006 · 31/05/2020 23:32

Hi did you ever find any more information about this? I have something similar hanging down just behind the tonsil , it’s almost like a raindrop shop. It feels like there’s a lump in my throat constantly and food gets stuck. If it got snipped off I don’t think I’d feel this anymore.

jzi392010 · 05/06/2020 01:32

Hi. I think I have the same problem as yours. And I am worried. I'm seeing ENT today. Any update now ? Status?

deen210 · 16/08/2020 15:42

hello anybody have any updates? I have the same thing !

rainbowMIT · 16/10/2020 14:39

@Shrews006 @jzi392010 did you find out about yours? I have something similar

Shrews006 · 16/10/2020 15:27

@rainbowMIT.

no I haven’t. It hasn’t changed in size much, it’s right behind the tonsil dangling down. Like a raindrop shape sort of. I can feel it constantly there. It’s tonsil colour. Very annoying. It maybe a polyps??

Traveler2020 · 16/10/2020 16:08

I also have the same thing next to my tonsil on the left side. Please update us

Traveler2020 · 16/10/2020 16:11

It has been almost a year. Did you knew what is was?

Mumof52020 · 08/11/2020 22:24

I had the exact same, looks like it could be my throat in that pic, my go couldn’t see it to start with, u have to open ur mouth really wide, and eventually he see it, I got referred with the cancer pathway, within 2 weeks I had mri scan and it was a cyst. I was so worried but deffo push to see ENT I did and they were fab!

Shrews006 · 09/11/2020 12:19

@Mumof52020 did you have it cut out?

Mumof52020 · 09/11/2020 12:36

No they left it and said it was fine, I had a camera first up my nose and down my throat and then mri they said it was benign so no further action.

Shrews006 · 09/11/2020 13:22

Oh right. So do you still
Feel it when you swallow and that ? Did you have the option to have it out?

Mumof52020 · 09/11/2020 15:04

No they said they wouldn’t take it out, tbh it’s been about a year and it’s stil the same size and I think I have one the other side starting, it’s only tiny tho but yes I can see it and feel it.
