Last week adult DD was at her dad's house, and her stepmother went to make tea. She just opened the kettle and checked there was water, then set it to heat. DD was Hmm and said "Don't you fill it with fresh water first? to which stepmother took the hump and said no, you just top up with more water as needed.

Now, in my house, I heat as much as I think I need and pour any excess out, so the kettle is filled with fresh water each time.

Obviously my wonderful DD knows that my way is the right way Halo, but what do you lot think?

Your way...pre boiled standing water tastes yuk! Also I empry kettle incase a creepy crawley has jump in Grin

Lucked · 14/11/2019 22:31

Mostly SM way. It is filled frequently as I try not to overfill it. Exception is when I go into my office on a Monday I empty as it has been siting all weekend

doublebarrellednurse · 14/11/2019 22:35

Step mother, not wasting water.

Unless it's been sat there a day (hard water area)

Bezalelle · 14/11/2019 22:48

I'm with ye olde stepma.

Troels · 14/11/2019 22:48

Stepmother.

Haffdonga · 14/11/2019 22:53

SM

beingchampion · 14/11/2019 22:55

Fresh water, always completely emptied by precision filling in a smug manner, but water is never re-boiled.

monkeyplanet · 14/11/2019 23:43

Your way, oxygen depletion strpmother's way plus the concentration of minerals and whatever salts are present so worse for scaling your kettle and not too good for your health

Fig678 · 14/11/2019 23:44

Your way!

Pilot12 · 14/11/2019 23:56

I make tea your way and DP does it Stepmothers way. It really doesn't matter, I don't think either of us have even noticed we fill the kettle differently!

HypatiaCade · 15/11/2019 00:31

Tip out overnight water, but just top up during the day.

emojisarentwords · 15/11/2019 00:35

Fresh water each time. However I try to only fill the kettle with the amount needed.

Time40 · 15/11/2019 01:09

Oh goodness - your way of course. Re-boiled water tastes so stale.

I can't believe so many people re-use boiled water. Have you no tastebuds? Even black coffee is undrinkable made with re-boiled water, never mind tea.

FridalovesDiego · 15/11/2019 02:27

Water is not safe to drink if it's been boiled more than once This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever read on the whole of the internet. Ever. Give over MsChatterbox. The internet is responsible for giving the hard of thinking a voice

Moltenpink · 15/11/2019 02:38

Your way. Why would you want old dregs from the bottom of the kettle mixed with fresh water? It gets tipped into cat bowl & plants here

BBInGinDrinking · 15/11/2019 02:49

I don't go in for SM bashing unless they were the Wicked OW or some other such unforgiveable shenanigans, but in this case her tea-making just won't do. Water must be fresh every time and freshly boiled just once. It's entirely possible to avoid wasting water and fuel by only putting what you need into the kettle in the first place or using the waste water for something else. I know this because my other name is BBInTeaDrinking. I am the oracle here, and come from a long line. I would stop contact immediately, OP. Your poor DD. Your ex has clearly married down since you.

floraloctopus · 15/11/2019 03:05

I only boil enough for what is needed and put fresh water in each time. Reboiling it concentrates the minerals in the water and alters the taste and I don't like it. Plus dust and stuff in the air can settle in your kettle if you don't use it often - I probably only make a tea or coffee once a week or so.

SamBeckett · 15/11/2019 06:36

@FridalovesDiego
I am glad I am not the only one that thought that statement was maddness.
The only time it may be a issue is if you had a huge urn and and kept it on the boil for days at a time but even then I doubt it would make anyone ill though I admit it would may make a brew taste foul.

BrightonBB · 15/11/2019 06:39

Stepmother’s way

BelfastNonBlonde · 15/11/2019 06:41

Your way

But don’t overfill otherwise v wasteful

Witchend · 15/11/2019 07:23

Your way was correct when she was a baby and you were making up formula.
After that, her way.

Drizzzle · 15/11/2019 07:31

Your way

yeahyh · 15/11/2019 08:00

Your way. Use the water for other things if there's any left. Leftover water sitting in the kettle always ruins my kettles because of how the water is around here

Damntheman · 15/11/2019 08:05

Reboiled water is not going to harm your average adult human. A tiny baby? Maybe, after repeated exposure over a long period of time, but not an adult. There's a lot of silliness on this thread!

I do it the step mother's way and I'm very into my tea. reboiled water does not taste any different than once boiled water. If you were getting your water from a stream you'd have to boil it for at least a minute before cooling and drinking anyway!

IncrediblySadToo · 15/11/2019 08:43

@witchend

I doubt @DoubleNegativePanda was making up the Stepmothers bottles!

@Dollymixture22 Your way is too much work. Putting fresh water in a kettle is ‘too much work’. Unless you are seriously ill, what are you on about?!
