Trying to be more appreciative of stuff lately and notice what makes me happy

Tonight .. it's chucking it down I'm snuggled in bed warm and dry .. the rain is lashing against the window .. happy!

What little things make you happy?

OP posts:

A good bar of chocolate.

Listening to my favourite songs.

Eating a nice fresh apple or satsuma/clementine/tangerine.

A cup of tea.

Opening a brand new lipstick.

Seeing the full moon and sunshine after all the rain!

SerafinaPekkalasbroomstick · 14/11/2019 01:11

Being on my own in a clean tidy house. I can dream hey?

LookAtWhatYouCouldHaveWon · 14/11/2019 01:14

The smell of an old bookshop or a well read book.

Taking my bra off after a long day.

A clean sheet of paper and a favourite pen.

Getting into clean PJs after a shower then into a freshly made bed.

Floury crusty white bread slathered with Welsh salted butter.

notangelinajolie · 14/11/2019 01:15

Yes to listening to rain. I always go to bed early when it's raining - I love the noise it makes on the windows.

And Christmas films. My ultimate happy fix.

managedmis · 14/11/2019 01:19

Crunching in Autumn leaves or fresh snow

The smell of freshly brewed coffee

Hacign a hair cut, then washing it for the first time, it feels all blunt and healthy

Batch cooking, everything in tupperwares, ready for the freezer

Giving the kids a good bath and seeing them all scrubbed and clean

VanyaHargreeves · 14/11/2019 01:21

A good romcom

A good jigsaw

My slippers

The smell of warm bread

Cooking

A properly good boxset

WhatsInAName19 · 14/11/2019 01:23

Great idea for a thread 👍🏼 I think I need this too!

This definitely ^

Hot buttered toast and a cup of tea

Hearing DD do a proper belly laugh

Having a spotless house with all the laundry washed and put away and no jobs waiting to be done - has happened probably twice in my adult life.

Going for an early morning walk across the misty fields on a crisp, cold day.

Thehagonthehill · 14/11/2019 01:38

People who are happy listening to the heavy rain obviously do not live in a flood zone.

EmeraldIsle81 · 14/11/2019 01:58

Right now, cuddled up in bed with my 11 week old son who is warm, fed, happy & content and giving me smiles and giggles.

I know when he's a teenager he don't want to be seen with me so I'm making the most of this now!

ClapHandsAndSaveTheFairies · 14/11/2019 02:44

@Thehagonthehill I'm currently sat listening to the rain, which I love, but I do feel guilty these days for enjoying it when I've seen some of the flooding horrors in the news.

The flat being clean and tidy, like suuuuuuper clean and tidy, specially when it's my partner who has managed to make the effort for a change, makes me happy.

The dog sleeping through in the night makes me happy the bloody but loveable little shit

Recently took myself off to Deveron Valley near Inverkeithny in Scotland and waking up the first morning, pottering into the kitchen and lighting the woodburner, making myself a pot of tea then sitting outside the cottage as the sun rose in an explosion of pinks and purples and reds and just sitting listening to the silence. It calmed my soul and did me the world of good.

Preggosaurus9 · 14/11/2019 03:24

Clean bedclothes are amazing!

Sitting by a fire is amazing too. Listening to the wood crackle and the air whooshing up the flue.

Bl00mingCactus · 14/11/2019 06:05

Listening to rain, smell of new pencils (actually sets of coloured pencils full stop), filling up my jar with home made granola for the week, reading by the sea, the woods in Autumn, opening a new tin of coffee, fresh sheets, making book lists, book shops, drinking tea in bed at the weekend and reading before anybody is awake, smell of woodsmoke, a new Simple Things magazine, finding sea glass, new bar of soap,....

Nice thread. Trying to make my teens to notice the same and just get eye rolls.

Confused866 · 14/11/2019 06:14

Getting into bed when the sheets are fresh, lighting a scented candle on an evening in a clean and tidy living room (doesn’t happen often), laughing with a good friend when I’ve been feeling low, hearing a song that reminds me of happy times, hanging the washing outside on a sunny day.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 14/11/2019 06:34

Winter sun hitting my holly tree and making the berries glow crimson against the dark green leaves and the cold blue sky.

Autumn. We usually have quite a short autumn where the leaves go dingy brown and throw themselves on the ground in despair. This year, they stayed on the trees like little golden banners and the autumn was beautiful.

Breath steaming on a cold morning.

Listening to the rain and other things that make you happy

I live in South Yorkshire. Listening to the rain does NOT make me happy right now Hmm

Feeling valued and appreciated at work
Feeling loved
Knowing that DD is happy and settled

I agree that you can't beat getting into a freshly made bed after a shower or bath.

Lovely thread!

Bringing my horses into clean dry stables and watching them munch their hay

The first cup of coffee in the morning

The cup of tea after walking the dogs outside in the cold and rain

A log fire and my blanket

Everyone eating and enjoying a meal that I've cooked

Nothing to do for a few hours

Exp1etiveDeLighted · 14/11/2019 07:48

My hot water bottle
First cup of tea in the morning
Golden leaves on trees
Laughing till I cry at something that happened at work (happened twice this week)
Random chat on Whatsapp with friends
The warmth and purriness of a cat on my lap

Not rain though, too many floods, roof leaks, cold people trying to work in it. I hate it when I wake up in the night to the sound of rain. Unless it's in the middle of a summer heatwave.

Trewser · 14/11/2019 07:50

There's always one.

MsMustDoBetter · 14/11/2019 07:56

I'm listening to the rain and drinking tea in bed. It's heaven.

wanderings · 14/11/2019 07:57

It's a silly one, but one of my greatest pleasures is hearing my DH wrapping my Valentine/birthday/anniversary/Xmas presents. We have a tradition that he'll do it in the same room as me, while I relax and listen, with an eye mask on so I can't see what I'm going to get. Grin I enjoy this almost as much as opening the presents later.

Trewser · 14/11/2019 07:57

I am ill, so off work. Everyone has left for the day and I've gone back to bed in a silent house with the electric blanket on.

MegaClutterSlut · 14/11/2019 08:22

Washing flapping about on the line
Dh kissing my forehead when I have a headache
Lighting my candles when it's dark outside
When the house is tidy which is rare

afternoonspray · 14/11/2019 08:29

Feeding the brids and squirrels then making coffee and watching them all swoop into our garden for their breakfast. A squirrel is nibbling buts on our back doorstep and there are blue tits and parakeets hanging off the nut feeders. Bliss.
