What do people think about stealing a glass from a bar?

Was on holiday with friends recently and one of the group stole a glass from the bar - as they liked the glass. The group was a bit divided afterwards when we found out. I was in the camp where it was thought to be wrong... and a bit cringey..what do others think?

Does it matter where the plant is : National trust garden, neighbours front garden or garden centre?

I think they’re all pretty crappy but the garden centre is the worst. Taking a cutting from a place that only exists to sell you the plant?

My neighbour wouldn't have anything to drink out of if she didn't keep nicking them.

All her mugs are from Costa and she hasn't got a matching set of cutlery as it's from all the different restaurants in town.

She's lovely but a thief.

I took a glass from a pub many years ago. It was a lovely glass so i went back to the pub in question to get another...i ended up with a complete set..i wouldnt normally have frequented this establishment and i did bring a few friends when i returned so i like to think we contributed to their profits

Really ....no need for bad language is there ? Calm down

You’ll be happy to hear I’m totally calm. Bollocks is a pretty mild word. I’m sorry you find it challenging - if you find mild swearing difficult I’d suggest Mumsnet as a whole may be too much for you.

I guess no deal, though, judging by your response. Oh well! Grin

Are you even English if you haven’t got a glass from the local or a bar? We have about 10 from years ago when 3 members of the family worked there and I spent a lot of my chi, hood in a pub. We even have a table from the pub 😁

Ginfordinner · 10/11/2019 22:46

It's wrong. it's steaiing. Pubs and bars put their prices up because so many thoughtless idiots think it's OK to steal drinking glasses.

Quite frankly, I don't understand the mentaility of people who are proud of the fact that their glasses at home were stolen from pubs and bars. Do they have no moral compass? Hmm

JessicaRarebit · 10/11/2019 22:51

DP is a bit obsessed with getting a glass from the bars we’ve been to, particularly when abroad but we always ask and in many cases he’s paid. To just take it without permission is theft.

I’ve still got a few now. And a plate from a very famous coffee house.

To furnish our uni house, I walked out of the bar with one of the tables. It’s probably still in that house.

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 11/11/2019 07:02

I have a few. I have a nice Baileys one i use every December.

I have a large mug from Starbucks at Center Parcs. I was going to a soft play in the hall there and went to get a takeout coffee. Got given a mug so i left for soft play. Holds pens in my kitchen as its too big for a coffee as I don’t have time to drink it in one go.

JassyRadlett · 11/11/2019 07:50

And I may add calling someone ‘love’ on the internet is totally ‘patronising bollocks’

Yeah that was kind of my point.

Suggest you take some of your own advice.

JassyRadlett · 11/11/2019 07:52

(By the way - there’s no point in @ tagging people if you’re going to go in for ‘humorous’ insults in parodying their username.)

If you like these things that much, why not just ask to buy them?

nocluewhattodoo · 11/11/2019 08:52

I've worked in pubs for years, and actually it is very annoying to suddenly have none of the branded glasses because certain customers get arsey about what glass their drink is in. People also steal loo roll, cutlery and kids toys from the place I work, which is a very 'naice' gastro pub, most of our customers are seemingly middle class families, but a lot of them act like total scum. The gin balloon glasses also disappear quickly, and after our landlord had us scour charity shops for vintage style cocktail glasses they were all gone within a month bar a single whisky glass.

It's stealing no matter how much you paid for your drink, or if the bar got them for free.

User478 · 11/11/2019 08:54

A fancy Gin bar opened near us, they put photos (frames from their CCTV) up on the local Facebook page of people who stole their gin balloon glasses. They were returned.
