Just wondering how grim it is that our emergency ‘sick bowl’ is our salad bowl Confused

@GrumpyHoonMain that's a waste of nhs resources when you could just use an old plastic bowl that can be re-used.

Thank god you didn’t put salad spinner.

No way my DD, when younger, could've got out of her high bed and make it to the loo. We'd prep if she ever felt sick, as throwing up from a height causes massive splash back. Envy

Plastic mixing bowl here. It was the washing up bowl growing up. We have used the bowl since for baking, it does feel a little grim but also wasteful to throw it away. It has been through the dishwasher lots so is clean.

Old washing up bowl. Only other use is washing muddy football boots.

Kids usually make it to the loo, but it's the just-in-case option.

Never had the need for that emergency bowl. We use the bins. And there's a carrier bag in each one anyway,

RolytheRhino · 10/11/2019 08:03

I recently read, and I'm not sure how true this is, that forcing kids to hold vomit in in order to make it to the loo runs the risk of them breathing it in accidentally and can cause lung damage.

Even if not true, it still seems easier to have a bucket.

CountFosco · 10/11/2019 08:12

We have a bucket next to the bed with some dettol in the bottom (stops the smell). But only one child has had a night of regular vomits into the bucket so it clearly has super powers (or we have guts of steel).

Cracklycaramel · 10/11/2019 08:15

We've a big house and kids can't always get to the loo in time so we need a bowl.

Big plastic tub, lined with a bin bag and with a sprinkling of sawdust at the bottom to minimise splashback. Whole lot can then be deposited in the outside bin without having to look at it or touch it. I'm a sympathetic puker but can hold it together as long as I don't have to touch it. Oh and I have Vicks rubbed under my nose so I can't smell it either.

SinkGirl · 10/11/2019 08:18

When my mum was in the hospice I learned of the existence of these. I now keep some in a drawer. Easy to bin when used and don’t take up much space, and no risking baking in a bowl you’ve puked in. Before that I used a spare washing up bowl which doubled as the laundry stain removing bowl.

Ours is my old mop bucket. As for the toilet thing. Me and dd1 could easily make it to the toilet
DH and dd2 just vomit from nowhere. Luckily dh hasnt been sick for a long time but dd2 came down with sick bug few weeks ago and bucket was a must as she just projectiles from nowhere. No warnings nothing

Heatherjayne1972 · 10/11/2019 08:43

Personally I have plastic bowls for cleaning / housework. they’re the ‘sick’ bowls

I wouldn’t use any bowl I intended to put food in tho

loserssaywhat · 10/11/2019 09:05

Small washing up bowl or basin, I keep it in a cabinet in the bathroom. It's mostly a just in case for my dd who's 4 and making it to a bathroom is hit and miss. It wasn't originally bought as a sick bowl but that's its job now.
