Just wondering how grim it is that our emergency ‘sick bowl’ is our salad bowl Confused

Wees not weeks!

I have two washing up bowls that are specific sick bowls. Also get used for soaking stained items. But that’s it. I keep a bag of ‘sick people’ stuff - little packs if crackers, anti bac wipes, latex gloves, spare kitchen roll and some old muslins.

A bucket

LucaFritz · 09/11/2019 20:25

Is a sick bowl a thing that sounds disgusting why can't you use a loo ? Confused even as a small kid i can remember having a bad bug or something and still running to the loo or at worst i wouldn't make it and it would end up on the bathroom floor but a bowl sounds grim Envy

starrynight19 · 09/11/2019 20:25

Oh now I need a champagne bucket Grin

Fuck, I’m going to be wary of dinner parties for the rest of my life 🤢

Dedicated sick bowl

It used to be a mixing bowl

It did throw me about a yea4 ago when ds2 and dd both felt sick...i was all ‘We ONLY HAVE ONE BOWL’

So i had do use a mixing bowl...that I actually use for mixing. Luckily i happened to give that to the slightly less sick child so it didnt get used

If they can make it to the toilet then obviously that’s preferable, its just in case of emergency

DemonWOOOOsse · 09/11/2019 20:26

Ours is usually the mop bucket. Has on occasion been the washing up bowl, which then gets relegated to the sick bowl and a new one purchased.

Slappadabass · 09/11/2019 20:26

I don't feel too bad about using our mixing bowl for a sick bowl now, I thought I was the only one gross enough to do such a thing! My ex thought it was absolutely vile and refused to eat any cakes or buns mixed in the bowl, which just meant more for me Grin

Although I did get a new bowl because the other was stained red from tomatoes been mushed in it and looked grotty as hell, so that's under the sink as the designated sick bowl and we have the new one for mixing. I feel like I'm winning at life having a separate sick bowl!

Plastic bowl kept in garage

wheresmyhairytoe · 09/11/2019 20:27

We have a big crabbing bucket that holds a surprising amount of vomit.

MonstranceClock · 09/11/2019 20:28

A big pink mixing bowl our sick bowl

starrynight19 · 09/11/2019 20:28

Yes obvs the toilet is preferable but do you not have the emergency bowl / champagne bucket at the side of the bed ??

We have two buckets (they are actually cheap washing up basins) and they live hidden away under the sink.

BackforGood · 09/11/2019 20:29

We had (well, still have, but it doesn't get the same use now the dc are big) a dedicated 'sick bowl'. It is an ex-washing up bowl. Used to live in the bthroom but has been relegated to the cellar these days.

orangeteal · 09/11/2019 20:29

Designated sick bowl, but it's not used for anything else, it's stored with our other bowls because cleaning works you know? And we know which one is which.

My children were potty trained from a young age but when you're ill you can't always get to the bathroom, and I'm terrible with sick, much easier to clean a bowl out than clean it up from the floor.

36degrees · 09/11/2019 20:30

We have a bleurgh bucket - it's the plastic bit from inside an old metal pedal bin that came with the house but had seen better days. It's great for long journeys in the car. There's an old washing up bowl under the sink that we use for peeling spuds but could be pressed into action as back up if we needed it.

Fatted · 09/11/2019 20:30

Ours is the solid plastic bathroom bin. I did also use the potty, but DH made us get rid of it. Angry

I remember when I was little, my DM making us use the bathroom step upside down!

A genuine question for those people who don't have one, what do you do at times when it's coming out of both ends at the same timeConfused

hazeyjane · 09/11/2019 20:31

We have 2 Ikea plastic bins that are the sick kits. They have a dedicated sick towel in them, wipes, a bit of kitchen roll and a spray bottle of Milton. One lives by our bed, one by the bathroom. We even take one on journeys and holidays (fucking reflux).

DowntonCrabby · 09/11/2019 20:32

We have a large tub with a handle that’s used interchangeably for vomit, strawberry picking and collecting shells/stones at the beach.

Crunchymum · 09/11/2019 20:32

Nowt wrong with designated sick bowls (mine are too young to make the toilet still) but it is absolutely vile to use them for actual food afterwards.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 09/11/2019 20:33

Cheap plastic mixing bowl here, kept interest the airing cupboard in between uses.

It's wide and lightweight so it's perfect for a sick bowl.

Don't think we ever planned to have a sick bowl, It just evolved and it's definitely a better sick bowl than mixing bowl. Too light for a mixing bowl.

LucaFritz · 09/11/2019 20:34

Do you have a seperate bowl for pooing in too if you have the sudden runs or is that one you rush to too the loo for Envy i feel like this is up there with toilet brushes

Alicenwonderland · 09/11/2019 20:34

This thread has reminded me of an embarrassing moment. My DS was around 7 at the time and needed to bring equipment for cooking into school. He proudly announced to the teacher that the mixing bowl was the sick bowl, I was extremely embarrassed! 🙈
We now have a dedicated sick bucket that's kept in the utility. It's mostly used for travel sickness now as my DC all manage to get to the toilet in time!

windyguff · 09/11/2019 20:34

I have a dedicated sick bowl. Years ago it was our plastic mixing bowl that didn't get used very often, and I was happy to thoroughly wash and re use it, but dh wasn't happy about it so it's now dedicated sick bowl.

I personally love a sick bowl, nothing worse when you're feeling/being sick that you have to sit in the family windowless bathroom and heave over the toilet. Much easier to sit in bed and puke into a bowl and empty it.
