Do you actually have a specific sick bowl or is it an everyday bowl ?

Just wondering how grim it is that our emergency ‘sick bowl’ is our salad bowl Confused

I can’t stand the thought of using any bowl, dedicated sick bowl or not! The thought of cleaning it after 🤮. I have a large stash of the single use sick bags (like the ones used at hospitals). You just throw them out when used and there’s no risk of splatter (my kids make zero mess with them). They are easy to store in the car or bag in case of emergencies.

thaegumathteth · 09/11/2019 20:52

We have 2 dedicated sick bowls. One kept under the sink and one kept under ds's bed because she has an overactive gag reflex.

Being sick into a toilet makes me feel sick thinking about it!

thaegumathteth · 09/11/2019 20:53

Oh and we have a large measuring jug in the car too.

LipSyncForYourLife · 09/11/2019 20:53

“We use a celebrations tub.”

That really made me laugh. Celebrate good times come on! Lol.

Wannabegreenfingers · 09/11/2019 20:53

Dedicated bowl. Kids are trained to use the loo, but when it's coming out both ends, then needs must.

To use a food bowl though is grim 🤮

sewinginscotland · 09/11/2019 20:53

My DC is not old enough to be able to use a sick bucket yet, but I image that I would happily use a mixing bowl. What do people think is in sick that the dishwasher won't get clean?

@Ginfordinner Sit on the toilet and throw up in the sink (that was not a fun 24 hours). Luckily my sink and toilet are right next to each other, otherwise it might have been the bathroom bin.

Bunnybigears · 09/11/2019 20:54

We use a bucket. The bucket is also used for general buckety purposes.

Tiredmum100 · 09/11/2019 20:54

We've got two sick bowls, they are empty popcorn tubs (from morrisons- their own brand). OBE upstairs in the bathroom cupboard and one downstairs under the sink. Yes the toilet bowl is better but I'd rather have the bowls than spend 3 days scrubbing a mattress, using everything I could possibly think of to get the smell out of it.

GrapefruitGin · 09/11/2019 20:56

The sick bowl is the loo!
It’s gross to use a bowl for food after someone’s vomited in it!!

mejon · 09/11/2019 20:58

Ours is the mixing bowl too. Always thoroughly cleaned afterwards. For emergencies only - I do encourage the DCs to head for the bathroom, but sometimes vomit can appear suddenly and you just can't make it in time. I'd rather they aimed for the bowl as they make their way to the toilet than on the floor or all over their beds.

TrashPanda · 09/11/2019 20:58

We have an industrial size gravy tub, it came from nursery when a child was sent home sick one day. It's great, has a handle, it's wide enough at the top to put your face in and deep enough you don't get much splash back. Obviously the toilet is preferred but the 4 year old doesn't always make it on time and I'd much rather empty a bucket than scrub the hallway!

Ravenrob · 09/11/2019 20:59

If DS is sick I give him the washing up basin just in case but he's always made it to the toilet.
Actually last time I gave him the food bin with a bag in it Blush

Timmytimetime · 09/11/2019 21:00

Yes, ours broke recently and so today got a new washing up bowl delivered in our online shopping which is now the new designated sick bowl. If one of the kids is going to be sick, we don't have time to find a suitable bowl in the kitchen cupboard.

thetardis · 09/11/2019 21:01

any bowl that's been puked in gets taken out of circulation. yafu to reuse it :(

burnoutbabe · 09/11/2019 21:05

Special bowl that lives in airing cupboard. It also gets used as a handy place to put tins of paint to avoid spills when in use.

JumpyLiz · 09/11/2019 21:05

We have two big plastic mixing bowls that live in the landing cupboard. Rarely actually vomited in, but used to give the kids the reassurance that there was something there when we tucked them back up after feeling poorly (especially when they had cabin beds)

Nowadays they get more use from the teenagers after a night out Envy

MsChatterbox · 09/11/2019 21:06

My sons potty 🤣

stucknoue · 09/11/2019 21:08

I use the bucket I use to clean the dogs room (and from time to time accidents.

Shelby2010 · 09/11/2019 21:08

Before we had kids it was the washing up bowl, but now it’s one of the kids seaside buckets. I don’t think anyone has ever been properly sick in them it’s always ‘just in case’.

stucknoue · 09/11/2019 21:08

With young adult DD's it is used more often than it should be!

itscliffmas · 09/11/2019 21:10

I have a dedicated plant pot 🙌🏻

VenusTiger · 09/11/2019 21:10

Same here OP - lives in kitchen cupboard with Pyrex and casserole dishes - don’t use it anymore for food and it’s always blasted in dishwasher at 70 anyway.
How on earth have some of you lot not needed one? Middle of the night sick all over the bed and then tears over the loo in a freezing bathroom usually meant back to clean, warm bed with sick bowl.

KNain · 09/11/2019 21:11

Is a sick bowl a thing that sounds disgusting why can't you use a loo ?

Because sometimes you can't make it to the loo - as per your next sentence!

even as a small kid i can remember having a bad bug or something and still running to the loo or at worst i wouldn't make it and it would end up on the bathroom floor but a bowl sounds grim

Why is throwing up into a bowl grim but throwing up on a bathroom floor isn't?

Personally I think being sick into a dedicated sick bowl which can be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected is better than throwing up on the floor where it will be harder to clean up.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 09/11/2019 21:13

We have a bucket, but generally we only use it incase someone doesn't make it to the bathroom.

starrynight19 · 09/11/2019 21:13

Thank god venus how is an emergency bowl not a thing 🤷‍♀️
