Do you actually have a specific sick bowl or is it an everyday bowl ?

Just wondering how grim it is that our emergency ‘sick bowl’ is our salad bowl Confused

We have a specific bucket. Was an Easter egg hunt basket. Kept in the dd's room. Sometimes give it to dd2 when she's 'not sure if she's feeling too good' faking when shes supposed to be in bed usually keeps her quiet. It is in easy reach for when they suddenly wake in the night and throw up everywhere but dd's mostly make it to the toilet.

Witchend · 09/11/2019 22:20

We use the potty, but it's unusual for them not to get to the toilet.

I have a special sick tub. However my nice stoneware kitchen bowl was given to me by my MIL when we were setting up home & DH informed me the other day that it was his childhood sick bowl! Grin

We do have a designated sick bowl. It was in regular rotation for cooking but since I vommed in it it's kept in a cupboard away from the kitchen for those pukey moments.

I had this conversation yesterday with a colleague. I work as a paramedic so see all sorts of things people grab to be sick in. Yesterday's patient had a measuring jug and I joked that I hoped they weren't baking a cake later on 😆

When I was a kid it was a bucket stood on newspaper next to my bed. As an adult we don't have anything because luckily we're not sickly people and when we are we make it to the toilet. However, I have a 19 month old so I imagine I will have a receptacle in a few years. So far in his life he's been sick once (apart from milky sick) and I caught that in my hand 🤣

Yes it is an old washing up bowl that lives under the sink, I wouldn’t fancy using a salad bowl after somebody had vomited in it no matter how much it had been washed.

hazeyjane · 09/11/2019 22:30

One of my low points as a parent was when dd1 was in a sling and vomited in my cleavage.

Purpleartichoke · 09/11/2019 22:32

We just grab a piece of Tupperware that has lost its lid. Then when the illness has past, we discard.

SpiderCharlotte · 09/11/2019 22:32

We've got a sick bowl in case of emergency. It became the sick bowl accidentally the first time ds was sick in it there was no going back ...

Hadenoughofitall441 · 09/11/2019 22:34

We have an old washing up bowl in the shed for this very reason 😁

Nogodsnomasters · 09/11/2019 22:38

Plastic washing up basin thats only ever been used for puke and occasionally washing paint brushes off when decorating. Definitely would never prepare food in something that's been puked in before, I have germ phobia big time!

Jayaywhynot · 09/11/2019 22:38

Old washing up bowl in the shed, in an emergency the bathroom bin is handy to grab if someone is not going to make it to the bathroom

tomboytown · 09/11/2019 22:40

How often are you all sick? !

GooseFeather · 09/11/2019 22:45

The mop bucket does the job, no specific bowl.

My mother had a sick bowl. Even if you didn't think you were going to be sick, out it came, cue immediate vomit. The power of the sick bowl.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 09/11/2019 22:47

The only sick bowl we have ever used is the flushable one...

lauryloo · 09/11/2019 22:49

Yes, it's a washing up basin

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 09/11/2019 22:50

we have two! ....both stainless steel mixing bowls that I bought somewhere and promptly decided they were just too flimsy and clattery to be used for mixing

They live together under the chair in my room....it's been a while but I have been known to wake with a screaming migraine and almost instantly vomit, so there's no option at all of making it to the bathroom in spite of being satisfactorily bathroom trained since 3.

My mother still has my brother's potty....and he is 50 next year....it lives in the bottom of the laundry basket and it is placed next to the sick person

We also used icecream tubs for car journeys....line with bags and kitchen paper, keep lid on until you get to a bin!

I have used the inner bit of the kitchen bin or bathroom bin though in an emergency!

Ihatesundays · 09/11/2019 22:53

We have a washing up bowl. But I use it for soaking things in, or if I am cleaning carpets etc.
Not sure if anyone has actually been sick in it, more a ‘feel nauseous’ bowl.

ilovetofu · 09/11/2019 23:00

We use the bucket 🤷‍♀️

Slinkymalinky1 · 09/11/2019 23:11

Our sick bowl is any of the large plastic mixing bowls with a small peddle bin bag in it, for easy disposal purposes. Although my children only ever throw up on the first 2 nights of any abroad holiday (think it's the slushes and ice cream) so don't generally have anything handy and end up scrubbing floor tiles at 2am on my 'holiday'

Gileadisreal · 09/11/2019 23:12

We have a sick bowl that has been handed down through the generations. Thinking about it, it's probably the only useful thing we'll inherit....

Pugsleyaddams · 09/11/2019 23:14

This thread has me Shock! We have sick buckets that live in the cleaning cupboard. No adults have been sick in them but the 5 and 2 year old have, lots when they've had bugs. How does it work for those who just use the toilet for young kids, they go in every time? We use a rush to the toilet or take the hit of bedding/ carpet etc for the first one if we don't know it's coming and then a bucket with an inch of water and Dettol etc in the bottom for further voms. We also have scented bin liners we just empty then throw away if we're not at home. I had dedicated sick bucket and so did DH as kids, I'm really surprised to find it's not the norm! If you use a kitchen bowl/ tub does it not splash all over the sides and go everywhere with young kids?

georgialondon · 09/11/2019 23:19

We have a specific bowl!

georgialondon · 09/11/2019 23:19

It's an old washing up bowl

AwdBovril · 09/11/2019 23:19

We have a bucket. It gets used for soaking mucky clothes in, & occasionally for other non-food uses, e.g. taking the laundry upstairs to soak & rinse out in the bath when our washing machine went bang the other year, mid-cycle.
