Are there any singers/actors/tv presenters whose continued success you find utterly baffling?

I’m just watching TOTP from 1988 and Kim Wilde’s on.

I’m sure she’s a lovely woman, but fuck me, the lass couldn’t sing. Or dance. Or mime.
And yet, she’s still doing the rounds, all these decades later.

See also Bananarama. Who goes to see these acts?

I’m not sure if it’s me that’s missing something, so which acts leave you confused at their success?

Jason Donovan.

I saw him live not long ago and he confessed that he finds his success utterly baffling, too!

legoiseverywhere · 13/11/2019 16:44

Any & Dec! Now they aren't bad but not so good that they have to present everything 🙄

theendoftheendoftheend · 13/11/2019 16:48

Just had to pop on to say I love Rylan.

Sam Smith makes my teeth itch but I can understand why others like him, he has a very recognisable voice and does lovelorn songs full of angst that people seem to like (see Adele and Ed Sheeran, quite like Adele though but never understood the fawning she got for that 'Hello' song)

legoiseverywhere · 13/11/2019 16:49

I love Rylan too, he's funny & quick witted. The teeth though...

Greysparkles · 13/11/2019 16:58

Nina hossain. News anchor of itv lunchtime news. Honestly don't know how she's the anchor, she spends the whole time tripping over words and having to correct herself!!

Nish kumar. Just, who actually finds him funny?!

Tom Allan, ditto above.

Ricky Gervais. Just cannot stand his smug face

Skinnychip · 13/11/2019 17:12

Am i the only person here who didnt "get" the office? It was on when i was dating DH, and he and his flatmate thought it was hilarious. I might have laughed once or twice per series
I also didn't find Friends funny the first time and now teenage DD has "discovered" it and nope, for me, still not funny.

Gingerninja01 · 13/11/2019 17:15

Cheryl (Cole)

How did Nicholas Cage become successful as an actor in so many different films when he only has two roles he can play? Slouchy and mumbly or slouchy with speech impediment!

sue51 · 13/11/2019 17:18

Sharon Osbourne
Kardashian family
Her with the fringe on strictly
Evan Davis
Jeremy Vine

Don't get their appeal at all.

AliceAforethought · 13/11/2019 17:19

Well connected. He is the nephew of Francis Ford Coppola. Coppola is actually his real surname.

AliceAforethought · 13/11/2019 17:20

Evan Davis

What’s wrong with Evan Davis??

user1497207191 · 13/11/2019 17:27

Has anyone mentioned Steph McGovern yet?

emilybrontescorsett · 13/11/2019 17:36

Ahh I was wondering which connections Nicolas Cage had, he is rubbish.

Danny Dyer too.
Piers Morgan, who listens to him?
Jennifer Aniston seems a nice person but plays the same role all the time.

TheVanguardSix · 13/11/2019 17:52

Ah Rylan's got charm for miles. He gets a free pass any day. He just seems like such a nice person.

Amanda Holden. She just really grates.
Katie Price. Tragic.
Sam Smith just creeps me out.
Egg Wallace. Ugh.

I thought this thread got pulled by MNHQ days ago???

So did I, with a ‘not in the spirit’ message!

DioneTheDiabolist · 13/11/2019 18:05

Me too OP.Confused

Wishimaywishimight · 13/11/2019 18:06

@SaskiaRembrand - couldn't agree more re The Beatles. Always thought they were vastly over-rated but don't think anyone I have ever braved this discussion with ever agreed with me!!

Flyingarcher · 13/11/2019 18:07

Jeremy Vine. He is just so dim on radio and Eggheads. Really, really dim. Annoys me.
Emilie Sande - why, just why.
I used to like Zoe Ball but her breakfast show is a bit meh, although thank heavens that bloody awful show and tell bit is not on at the mo.

I think though it is easy to criticise. Could I run a breakfast show? Probs not so I think it behoves us to be kind. I like Rylan and he is good on I Takes 2, but he is going to suffer from overkill soon.

Mrs Brown's Boys. Why? Just don't get it.
Keith Lemon.. again, don't understand the appeal.

VanyaHargreeves · 13/11/2019 18:17

Yes I saw the deletion message said that people had been pulling folk apart based on looks which is why it was Not In The Spirit @Pinkarsedfly

Not much evidence of that

Pinkarsedfly · 13/11/2019 18:18

How odd. I was smarting a bit - I didn’t see anything based on looks and that sort of thing isn’t my style at all.

Weird.

Pretty much anyone who has their job via nepotism.

Minikievs · 13/11/2019 18:27

I love Rylan!

Tess Daly, Cheryl and Kylie baffle me with their continued success

TalbotAMan · 13/11/2019 18:28

Claudia Winkelman. Have struggled to find a scintilla of talent since she started appearing on our screens.

BlueThursday · 13/11/2019 18:29

Craig Levein
