Ultimate CF Parking

We live opposite a school and there have been problems over the years with idiotic parking. We are opposite the side entrance.

It's quite a narrow lane and no room for parking on both sides or even parking big cars as it stops the traffic altogether. Mostly it's been dealt with by us all parking in the road for a while so there is nowhere for them to park and by regular patrols by community police who ticket those causing an obstruction.

A few weeks ago the main road (where the main entrance is) was resurfaced and double yellow lines and more zig zags have appeared along the road. This limits parking very much and so the lazy ones now try to park in our lane.

I say the lazy ones because they have permission to park in the church car park - 200 yards away or the pub car park 200 yards away. There is also a lay by at the bottom of the lane.

This morning I was walking up the lane when a car turned into a near neighbour's drive. I knew my neighbour was away so as the woman got out (and her child got out) I asked if she was there to see Mrs E. She said she wasn't but there was nowhere else to park and her daughter needed to get to school. Then she tried to walk round me.

I said she couldn't park there and she needed to move. She had a major hissy fit, drawing quite a bit of attention and embarrassing her DD. Another neighbour came out and took a photo of her car and said it would be reported.

So she got back in and reversed out crossly, nearly hitting other cars trying to go down the lane. Unbelievable.

YANBU.

We have a shared drive. It only happens occasionally, and our neighbours are great, fortunately, but sometimes they have some right twats visiting them who park at or across the bottom of the drive, blocking me in. Even when there is room on the road directly outside the house! Always man with van types, and always ten minutes before I need to leave the house for an appointment. OK they do move, but sometimes have a right attitude about it! I wouldn't dream of doing that. It's a quiet rural cul-de-sac, not a busy urban street. There i always somewhere to park and no need to block me in.

MyKingdomForBrie · 08/11/2019 12:12

I think you need to give your nice neighbour some tips on cultivating her grass.

She was beyond cheeky, well done on challenging her! This time the neighbor happened to be away so it wasn't an inconvenience but presumably CF didn't know that.

@ChaosTrulyReigns Grin

@DriftingLeaves fabulous diagram!! Nice neighbour needs to keep her front door shut while the fires on though, she's letting all the heat outGrin

DriftingLeaves · 08/11/2019 12:23

@haverhill Good grief. It would be the talk of the village for a month if that happened.

I hope she doesn't try it again. I may have to buy a hammer.

Loving the diagram! Seems like you have TWO nice neighbours beside you. That is lucky.

Totally CF parking and if you were my neighbour, I would love you moving on somebody trespassing on my drive . You would have to ask if CF Parker had done it before!!!

As I have said before, talk to the school about CF parking. Get the photo to them and ask that they send something out in newsletter about being considerate to the neighbourhood. Although, I don't believe it is a police issue incredulously. As it on the drive, I believe it falls under that 'civil action' banner.

My CF parking has dropped considerably since the school started publishing my photos of cars with their number plates. It seems that CF'er don't like being advertised in the newsletters.

Go you!

I live next door to a school and one day looked out of my window to see a car pulling onto my drive and park there. They were very surprised when I told them to move, and no they could not stay there just today.
This is a secondary school. I have no idea why pupils attending there are unable to walk more than 5 metres.
The new senior leadership team there are terrible and refuse to get involved in anything. Even when I pointed out that dangerous and illegal parking affects pupil safety. Their reply was they are not the police!!

Billben · 08/11/2019 13:21

but personally I wouldn't have got involved. It wasn't your driveway and you knew she wasn't actually inconveniencing anyone.

So that makes it alright then? Oh, give over. CFs get away with things because people are too embarrassed to pull them up on their shit. This week she’s parking on the neighbour’s drive. Next week it’s gonna be OP’s.

Likethebattle · 08/11/2019 13:33

I think you were very unreasonable, I had to take little Persephone to school and you caused a delay. She isn’t used to walking you know!

I’d have blocked the twat with my car.

Winesalot · 08/11/2019 13:40

personally I wouldn't have got involved. It wasn't your driveway and you knew she wasn't actually inconveniencing anyone.

I’m surprised that you mention ‘not inconveniencing’ anyone. I get this from people blocking my drive all the time. ‘They are not inconveniencing me, so why am I making a fuss’. Didn’t matter if I point out a) it is illegal b) how do they know this (I have been inconvenienced plenty of times in the past) c) not their place to judge whether it is inconveniencing me d) it is illegal. So, I then just started to send the school pictures when it happened. The school across the road is a primary school and very responsive.

So, no. If you find someone who is actually going further and driving onto someone’s drive, I would feel my neighbour would be fine to be community minded to nip this in the bud. Particularly if they were a friend. Imagine if this woman decided to keep doing it or on others and there was damage or an accident. Besides which, if she is reversing out of the space (instead of reversing into the drive) she has the potential to hit someone. No. Just no!

RebootYourEngine · 08/11/2019 13:47

Good on you OP for confronting her.

Home time will be interesting.

Jaxhog · 08/11/2019 14:04

but personally I wouldn't have got involved. It wasn't your driveway and you knew she wasn't actually inconveniencing anyone.

Of course, you should. Or next time it'll be your drive (or your lawn - they have no shame). 'All it takes for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing' (Edmund Burke.)

Lovely diagram!

ffswhatnext · 08/11/2019 14:17

Great diagram and description.

Should it matter if this morning it inconvenienced no-one? You let people do it once, and they start taking it for granted.
What about tomorrow morning when the owner is inconvenienced.
It isn't up to drivers to decide when a drive is being used or not unless you know the person. You don't see an empty drive and think awesome I will park there.

It's like in the summer months. You leave a door open. I come in and see an empty sofa. No one is using it so I sit down. I'm not inconveniencing anyone am I?

Either way, you don't have permission to be on that person's property. So you stay off. A public road, park where you want as long as it's legal.

The person got off very easy. The owner could have come back, blocked her in and ignored the woman wanting the blocking car moved.

BigFatLiar · 08/11/2019 14:25

Just going on hair is your nice neighbour Princess Leia?

whiskersonkittenss · 08/11/2019 14:32

@BigFatLiar

His name is Harry and he's baldish.

BigFatLiar · 08/11/2019 14:56

Ah, Harry, well if he wants to wear cullottes that's fine. Don't care what he chooses to wear, being a God neighbour is what matters.

(Does he know you drew a picture of him in his sculptors?)

BigFatLiar · 08/11/2019 14:57

Sorry good not God and cullottes not sculptors

If she does it again I'd wait until she walks away then block her in with your car. Leave a note on the windscreen, "dear neighbour, thank you so much for allowing me to block your drive again today. I'm only away for two nights, posted the keys through your letterbox in case you change your mind and have to move it! Can't wait to bring your thank you gift back with me from Amsterdam!"
